Detailed herein is the endevour of Dr. The Viking and Jonas (and anyone else who feels like joining!!!) to complete an actual sci-fi project and game with it. Using rules!
It is not everyday that a project like this just happens upon you, but a small opening in the space time continuum presented itself when by chance Dr. The Viking was sent a package containing 50 odd sci-fi troopers on the same day as Jonas bought a Guldkorn dinosaur!!!
Now as the old adage goes 'Old rust never burns' and that has never been more true than here.
The setting:
The world is dead. Nuclear weapons, plague, zombies, CO2 emissions, O2 remissions, computer software updates, Windows 6000, ginormeous solar storms and religious squabbles have ended it.
Yet as Ian Malcolm of Jurassic Park fame once put it - Life finds a way. Or as the more pessimistic lot have put it 'an umpteenth of us failed to die.'
Where once mammals and especially Man ruled the Earth, they now fight for their slot on the evolutionary ladder against anthropomorphic animals and the awesome behemoths known to 19th century palaeontologists as Dinosaurs!
Herds of giant insects, radioactive geckos, un-deactivated military robots, wild men, mutants, even bigger dinosaurs, radioactive slag and undetonated nuclear weapons is making life even more enjoyable to the children of Abel.
Not everything is bad though. A powerful new energy source - The purple rainbow crystal - has emerged from the cavities of Mother Earth. By force feeding the dinosaurs with this crystal Mankind has learned to harness and strengthen the dinosaurs taking them to even more powerful levels!
One might wonder what would happen if the crystal were to be given to other species. Mankind is investigating but tests have so far only shown that it leads to severe erectile dysfunction and reversal of the brain! None of which makes for better fighting indiviuals.
Without the aid of labs, books, computers or even a basic conceptual understanding of science there is little to be done about the issue so far though.
And thus it is in this dire world of post apocalyptic dinosaur mayhem that wars are fought today!
To detail the project in short:
Each participant will build a force containing, but not limited to, the following in compliance with the setting canon:
~30 foot troopers
~5 dinosaurs
Some leaders and perhaps a few specials
2,5 pieces of terrain (roughly 8''x8'')
My force will be composed of the following (that happened upon me!):
Ramshackle troopers, dinosaurs and a few specials.. oh and I got to use some of the 100 hex bases I just ordered for no reason whatsoever.
-
Great stuff!
My forces will mainly consist of Acheson Saurians and will be joined by plastic dinosaurs and vehcles constructed from cardboard boxes, shampoo bottles, styrofoam balls and whatever garbage I will have to my disposal.
Here is the first WIP shot of my forces:
When the dinosaurs was ressurected the collective subconsious mindpower of the all earths lizards and reptiles was raised to such a level that iguanas and the likes was as smart (or stupid) as mankind and some rose on their hind legs and started using weapons of MASS destruction.
:D
-
Brilliant!!! lol
-
Bloody brilliant, you pair of mad buggers!
8) 8)
Really looking forward to following this through its infancy to completion.
:D
Jonas: I fear for your sanity, consorting with that Crazy Fool!
;)
-
Well :D I still plan to paint my miniatures tastefuly, I suspect Dr. The Viking will be using pink and brown camo paint scheme and Dinos with flowers war paint and such stuff lol
I hope I didn't give him any ideas here ::)
-
No robot dinosaurs?
Pfft, a rookie omission ;) lol
Good luck with it guys. I expect great things.
-
pink and brown camo paint scheme and Dinos with flowers war paint
Quite tastefull i might say
-
I might have some Robot Dinos somewhere or maybe some Dinobot Transformers.
-
sounds like you guys need eurekas dino nazis.
Hehe, yeah well, I think for me this will also be a project about building stuff from crap myself and not buying more crap.
I think I will go for dinoriders inspiration in fitting the dinoes.
A friend built this cyraffe once and I think it's a good example of where I'm going to go.
(http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_jtNuN0oQ_IA/SbAd3jDI7KI/AAAAAAAAAC0/SMrP1RL-4ik/s320/IMG_4051.JPG)(http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_jtNuN0oQ_IA/SbAeSDRQcUI/AAAAAAAAADE/cGonsboFKSo/s320/IMG_4053.JPG)
-
The cyraffe is great, but I am not sure I can get myself to molest my dinos like that ;D
-

Oh well! I don't have that kind of concerns. I will killify my dinos to death if I have to.
But maybe not all of them. They'll all have guns mounted though I think.
-

You what!? lol
No plans of going ballistic on the colours here. Rather I'm going for post apocalyptic flavour of the moth. I think grey with a chuck of red stripes on it. Maybe... who knows!
Seems I have a couple of hours worth of cleaning to do before any such fantasies can come to fruition.
Oh, and I'd like ideas for the rain bow crytals. We do of course have the lot of crystals we did once. Maybe just call it 'purple rainbow crystals' and be done with it. :D
-
I just love this project!
-
Purple crystals will probably do good to start off and we can always find more crystals as we go along. Maybe different crystals give different kind of powers and some might be more rare than others?
Purple could be the most common for now :)

Yeah, we could make som black rainbow crystals later on. For ultimate power!
EDIT: Argh! Already on page two of this and nobody's even looked at a brush yet! lol
-
Excellent idea =)
-
Lovely ideas chaps. Reminds me of an Jack Vance short story which appeared as an scenario for D&D in White Dwarf, issue 1,I believe...?
-
This looks ridiculously fun. But I have to ask, what exactly is a purple rainbow crytal? Is it a crystal that refracts light into a rainbow of hues and shades of purple only? Is it a rainbow shaped crystal that happens to be purple? When you feed it to the dinosaurs, does it taste like Skittles? :D
-
I think the laser shooting T-rex in that illustration is saying "taste the rainbow Mutha F#$%er"
This project is awesome. It reminds me of Gammarauders as well.
-
Ok, I am so in for this, finally a use for all my old GW 40K and Lizardman parts. :-*
-
Hello friends!
Do you think ViDe could be adapted for use with our project here: http://leadadventureforum.com/index.php?topic=63082.msg758796#new ????
It's roughly 30 figures a side and some cyber dinosaurs (which will probably behave like mechs I guess)
Hope you'll take a brief moment to consider.
Should be possible!
The basic SF troops are all in the core Future Combat book.
Dedicated CC troops are possible, but you have to deduct some points for the ranged weapons and add some useful CC abilities.
The Dinos can be done with the walker / mech profiles as you said.
If you have any special trooper or monster idea that needs a game value and / or characteristics just post it here and we can establish the rules.
The upcoming “Rival Species” book will include anything you need anyway…
-
I think Rainbow Crystals just comes in all the colours of the rainbow, maybe they actually grew out of the atomic waste of Skittles :)
Sounds good about Victory Desicions. I want to look into it for possible gaming of oher strange sci-fi factions. Looking forwward to the Rival Species book.

Okie dokie!
Here are my suggestions for the dinoes. I don't really see much else that must be added, but I'm always open for cool ideas!
Light Dinosaur (size of a cold one from 40k/void thing)
Size: 1
Hit: 6+
Crit: 7+
Weapons: A variety of options from the mid tech list
Abilities: HP/2, ferocious, Walker/6
Medium Dinosaur (roughly 'normal' dino - not HUUUGE! >10cm in one dimension)
Size: 2
Hit: 8+
Crit: 9+
Weapons: A variety of options from the mid tech list
Abilities: HP/3, ferocious, Walker/5
Heavy Dinosaur (like a huuuge one - a big Tyranno or a Bracchiosaurus >20cm in one dimension)
Size: 2
Hit: 8+
Crit: 9+
Weapons: A variety of options from the mid tech list
Abilities: HP/6, ferocious, Walker/4
(I'm thinking about letting the volume of the model decide what category it fits in! People can go about making an Arkimedes volume test to find out...)
-
Very interesting project, I really hope you use Victory Decision Future Combat for it!
I might even dust of my Exodite minis...

We will! Definitely. I'm sold on them. I have been trying to mod Mongoose old games for the use in VSF for years but now I'll just use yours. Much better! :)
Now look at the stats above. :D
-
Mental head lol
cheers
James

Mental head lol
lol lol
Yep.
Gotta say that I agree.
100%

Very interesting! :o 8)
For normal Dino the size of a horse I strongly recommend to simply use the Cavalry + CC Specialist Option of the Ballistic Armour Rifle Squad P. 89. ;)
Points are worked out and the stats while mounted (and nobody is forcing you to dismount) would be:
Critical: 6+
Hit: 5+
Save: 4+
Move: 6”
Bonus Ability: Ferocious
Preetty close to your idea and already within the rules! ;) ;)
Medium Dinosaur (roughly 'normal' dino - not HUUUGE! >10cm in one dimension)
Size: 2
Hit: 8+
Crit: 9+
Weapons: A variety of options from the mid tech list
Abilities: HP/3, ferocious, Walker/5
Well you do not need the Walker Special Property, if an infantry model with HP Ability it already has 3 action and moves “walking”.
Size 2 seems to small for me. Maybe 3! so what about this:
Size: 3
Hit: 7+
Crit: 9+
Save: 5+
Move: 5”
Ld 6
Abilities: HP/3, ferocious, Remember CC/ Assaults would be 3xD10+1, with re-roll and CR 3”!!!
Try some games with a cost of: 140 points + weapons!Heavy Dinosaur (like a huuuge one - a big Tyranno or a Bracchiosaurus >20cm in one dimension)
Size: 2
Hit: 8+
Crit: 9+
Weapons: A variety of options from the mid tech list
Abilities: HP/6, ferocious, Walker/4
Increase the size!
Size: 5
Hit: 8+
Crit: 9+
Save: 5+
Move: 4”
Ld 6
Abilities: HP/5, ferocious,
Remember CC/ Assaults would be 5xD10+1, with re-roll and CR 5”!!!
Try some games with a cost of: 230 points + weapons!
-
Thanks a bunch Agis!
I think my draft was flawed by C/P fumbles.. obviously the size wouldn't be 2 for the big ones! lol
We'll give the rules a spin as soon as possible. :D :D
-
Keep me in the loop! ;)

Brillianto!!!

Cool stuff indeed, and the best thing you can use the list from FuCo out of the box!
Mid Tech Ballistic Armour Infantry!
-
I too am busy painting... and panting!

It will be all wash and go for me.

Ooooh and look what I found in my pile of stuff!
And yes... well - not the most inspiring post, but at least I'm working!
-
wow great Stuff from both of you :-* lol
Im thinking of building something Stalag 666 esque myself :)
-
I think i have some of those lizard riders somewhere, or are those already someone i have handed down?

I got these of Steen! Now give me yours! lol lol

Please do and join our thread! :D
We will be adding to the background and hopefully produce a PDF at the end of it all with terrain, scenarios, painting guides and stats. It just seems to be the more sensible thing to do.
-
nice work! its all coming together...
-
I got these of Steen! Now give me yours! lol lol
You can have them when my terrain mat is finished ;)
And if we actually manager to meet up for a game...
-
Wow, so enjoyable! :-*
-
Managed to finish a few colour tests of my Southerners:

Left is painted using black wash and right is using sepia... I think black wash is winning.
Either way it was crazy fast and I think I can finish the infantry within the next week or two. :D
Didn't quite know whether to go black or brown on the base edges there.
-
Black for me as well 8)
Keep the base edges as they are, helps them to blend in.
cheers
James
-
Both looks good, but black wash is probably the better.
I will have to get my shit together, if I want to keep up with this.
My guys will have black base edges, but I will just do the bases like the rest of my sci-fi. But I guess it doesn't really matter that much?
-
Looking good guys. I must dig out my ramshackle minis as they'll fit right in with my norts.
Well done for quick pj's.
-
Phew... I see now that I must paint the base edges black. I was blinded by hexagonal awesome yesterday. Or maybe I am cured by a day with hours of meetings and the fact that I found my house under siege by 25 six year olds celebrating my, now, seven year old....
I just need to survive one hour more and then I can go paint. lol
-
those molemask heads acually go quite well with the iron borthers soldier bodies. i tried them out but thought the protruding gas mask snout intersected too much with the gourget, but looks like you got it to work!
as for washes, i personally would do the dip in sepia, but use the black to do joints. so the main shading is subtle with the sepia shading, and the deep recesses are dark! maybe thats too much faffing though?
-
That first Dino Riders picture brought back memories...those things were super cool when I was a kid. Most of the toy line was later refurbished and used for Jurassic Park miniatures as well (for those looking to kit-bash some dinos).
How I longed for this...

ok, this is the middle of the night and Mr Viking went to bed. I must admit that today was drunken and strange. But we managed to put some great stuff together.
The Viking did a T-Rex with lasers on the head ;) ............ and more :o
I managed to snap a few pictures on the way. But only these two were even close to be good enough to post... so I post these anyway.
lol
These are of course still VERY work in progress pictures and only of the GREEN side NORTHERN army!

Yes, Jonas and I had a convertothon last evening and as he failed to capture any of my work with his camera I have had to do so today myself:
Some sort of hadrosaurid given the equipment needed for battle. It sports two heavy machine guns and an infrared eye augmentation (giving it recon).
I believe this is meant to be a (small) bracchiosaurus. It is equipped with lazer cannons, a cerebral stimulator and an ocular transductor. It seems one of the stimulator cables didn't survive transport.
This ceratosaurus has head mounted MG's and will have a rider at the back. It also has a comms relay.
Stegosaurus in the making. It has been fitted with electrical legs and a power tail so far. Will have lazer cannons to the sides eventually.
I really like Jonas' ankylosaurus with the Saurian rider on it. Brilliant!!! The rider makes all the difference. I shall see if I can find some suitable figures and mount riders on the majority of mine too. A head swap with a ramshackle games molemaske will surely tie what ever miniature I choose into the theme. :)

Recently stumbled upon one of those on my attic in poor shape (without howdah and figures) though but he's heavy, will take some pictures and post them here. ;)

Chaps, you're both mental and I love it :D :D :D

Chaps, you're both mental and I love it :D :D :D
Yep.
That sums it up pretty well.
Bonkers, but wonderful!

I had that small triceratops creature when i was younger! sudden flood of childhood memories..........
-
...ocular transductor...
Quite remarkable!
Great work so far. Look forward to seeing more.

Awesome-o-saurus ;D
Here is some better WIP shots of my Dinos...
I added a guiding system on the main gun and greenstuffed a belt to hold the gun/rider. I also added a saddleback on this side.
I might add some more gear on this side too and I still need greenstuff the stovage on the back and such.
This guy needs much more work. So far he has a huge main laser and some sponson scatter-lasers. I will try and make the weapons on this one cyber connected into the poor guy.
:D
-
One of the most original and inspired threads on LAF. Awesome sauce! !!! ;)
-
Wow. This thread is immense. Progressing at a fair pace too. :D
-
Got inspired to throw this guy together today:

May do a unit's worth for JDMG or something...
-
How cool!
I can add you to the backgrounfile if you like?!
I'm writing a PDF source book on the background with scenarios and all.
-
Still trying to find words to describe how awesome is this. Any adjective I can find looks simply not enough. :-* :-* :-*
-
Thanks :D
-
Awesome creations, looking forward in seeing more dino madness! lol trying to find some miniatures in my lead pile that would be suited for this sort of project ...
-
Sure thing, Dr The Viking, I'd love to take a look at the whole background.
Been digging around for some dinos too, may have more later in the week.
-
I missed this somehow, amazing stuff!
-
Excellent bashes right there. I dare you to not include at least one warrior that has a hammerhead... head! >:D
-
I love these crazy projects.
For some reason I think you need something with dinosaurs and motorcycles, or Cadillacs. :)

For shizzle, Cadillacs and Dinosaurs could be a fun add-on ;)

About halfway through my squad, will get some pics up soon. Also found an old D&D T-Rex that I'll get to work on.
Although I'm using GW Lizardmen heads, I'm trying to stay away from too much GW gear, though this has got me tempted:

Still inspiring :D
-
Lovely work to the both of you! :-*
-
Badass guys, well done. I hope that you keep the pace going, I cant wait to see these guys getting paint ;D
-
Thanks guys. Hopefully I will get some Saurians painted tonight :D
-
I have been labouring hard at the campaign setting and scenarios up until now, so not much in the way of paint. I hope to bring out something Matakishi style that could be used for whatever system people fancy.
And yes, there will be paint as well!
-
W.O.W. I had totally forgotten about Dinoriders, or the bad guys that were reptile-men. Their creators must have been geeks like us.
Actually I already was a little too old to get totally into it, but I was very fascinated by the weirdness of the whole concept.
from about the same time as those five-elements animal warriors with the heat sensitive adesive on their armour. Just after Blackstar, basically. 8)

The CO of the Company, General Lilensternus, known as "Thin Lizzy" by his enemies because of his slight (for a Saurian) build. He wields a weapon called a "Pow Fist", it's great at opening beer.
Thin Lizzy's prized dino, known as "Devil", it has a thing for eating monkeys.
More to come, just hunting for bits.
-
Very cool :D
-
Mr. Crazy Viking have you seen this (http://www.powerfist.dk/forum/index.php?topic=75496.new#new)?
I just stumbeled upon it very cool conversions.
-
I saw some of that work previously, very brilliant! Makes my work look like sh**... But I think her work is maybe too high tech for my Saurians.
I am almost done with my first dino and will give it a black undercoat too see how things work out without all the clashing colours and parts. Maybe it will work out.
I have been looking for a shovel though lol
-
OK, first off, sorry if this update is a bit messy, but I haven't slept for 36 hours. I have been up all night sorting through my leadpile for bits.
I have trying to get a bit order into it all, but I guess it will never happen 100%
So I put on some bits to my Dinosaurs and used some bluetack (white) to try out some different things.
At the beginning of this project I wanted to stay clear of as many GW parts as possible, but as it turns out, a huge part of my collection is mainly made up of GW miniatures and bits, so ind the end I stopped trying and just added some stuff I thought looked good.
Most of this stuff is not glued on yet, so if this really look like garbage I can always alter on it.
For the bigger guy here I have added some ancient Rhino APC parts as armor on the sides (I am thinking to connect this with a belt under the belly), I put on a search light up front, some Copplestone power armor arm became sensors on the head.
I am beginning to think this set up will work out for him and I might glue everything in place and begin with the greenstuffing.
Any objections? ;D
The other Dino is almost done.... Though I might change a bit on it.
I am beginning to think that the hightech/lowtech opposites look pretty good, so hightech on the guns and the rider and low tech on the leather belt holding the gun and I have added a shovel and a wooden crate. So now I am beginning to thing the saddlebag on the side is a bit out of place, so I consider removing that one and maybe go look for one more small wooden box or similar.
Right side - Modern saddlebag...
Left side - Wooden crate...
I have greenstuffed on the last one, so the different parts are beginning to fit together. The boiler stuff on the back also have some wooden boxes and a blanket rolled up, so again a bit on the low tech side.
Let me know what you think.
Thanks.
-
I love all the 'hi-tech/low-tech' thing.
It looks great!
8) 8)
Looking forward to seeing you tie it all together with greenstuff and then paint.
:D
-
Looks terrific Jonas!!!
I've been tampering with my dinos as well, but haven't had the time to photograph anything. :D
-
I am loving this thread :D
There is some class work going on :-*
-
Great, I will try and clear the mess on my table so I can get on with it all.
:D
-
Weeehoo I almost finished painting a dino!

A recon hadrosaur
This build is an autosaur meaning that it can be handled and counted on without the need of a rider

'Hiya Curtis! Look at my new ride!'
And lastly I made a pack dinosaur:
The first scenario in the booklet will need three pack dinoes (or counters).
-
It looks great!!! :o
-
Man I love that Recon Hadrosaur. :o Look forward to seeing some paint on the others too.
-
That painted dino is lookin' the tits. Is there a brief blog entry about the fluff behind any of this, or is this a 1980's cartoon "screw you and your logic and history!" approach and just "big beasties with guns!" kind of approach? What next, a M.A.S.K. or Starcom project!? :-*
-
You damn efficient Dane! :-* Love them!
-
It looks great!!! :o
Thanks mate! Eagerly anticipating yours

Thanks man, the sauropods should be inbound soon!

There's fluff all right, but I'm still adding to it, so I guess it'll be a while before it surfaces. I must say that the you should not expect logic when going down my path. ;)
IN the booklet I'm making there's going to be 6 scenarios, a brief description of the world, conversion details, painting details and a gallery of our figures.
The scenarios will focus on the exploits of a saurian robber captain called Snayk Pilzken. He leads his gang into the distant Southern lands where they'll be met by the slaves of the psychotelepathic moles of the Underdark.
Ah, well. I hope it all be good fun. :)
You damn efficient Dane! :-* Love them!
Hehe, I don't know that to be true these days. Almost haven't painted in February! But thanks! lol
top work there chaps. THere was a 2000ad story which was a bit shit about people racing dinosaurs which would be gold for you chaps as your dinos and their dinos look very similar. I am afraid I cant find any pics or remember the exact name of it though.
OK! Well I don't really know 2000AD other than from the dread films and the foundry miniatures, but Jonas mentioned that some of the fluff I've done has similarities. But well, in essence I'm stearing clear of looking at other things for inspiration for now. :D
-
:o
Woooot!!!
That really is the Dino's Danglies, you mad, crazy, fruitloop of a Viking!
:-* 8) :-*
Great skintone (scaletone...?) on the painted sample and the builds on the other two are just gonna look perfick when they get 'the treatment'.
8)
Looking forward to the next instalment!
:D
-
Wahoou :-*
il like your project!
great work
-
Hehe, I don't know that to be true these days. Almost haven't painted in February! But thanks!
I haven't painted since Christ got crusified you show off ;)

Got some dinos done myself:
Saurians are known to use herds of small dinos as living shields and mine clearance in battle.
$2 bag of dinos, Army Painter Dip, some sand and a couple of coasters.
-
Haha! Brilliant bases Hat Guy!!! You should give the handler a prodding stick or some sort of tazer. lol
I have finally gotten some more work done on my dinos:
A few really bad mould lines survived.. .but what the hell! These are toy dinos! No hiding the truth.
I'm sort of fond of this one now. It didn't look very promising before I got it painted, but I think it works well now.
In other news I have had the luck of getting a very talented artist, resident of this forum, on board to illustrate a bit in the booklet. 8) ;D
-
Wehooo!!! Managed to finish my first Southern squad!
The Southern nation is enslaved by ginormeous psychotelepathic moles and live in an termite mound like city called the Underdark. The leader of the moles lies all day and gets fed with misfits and captives from other nations.
The skin complexion of the Southern inhabitants has a pink hue to it and as with all other men, they wear gasmasks all day to avoid being further mutated.
-
'Kin brilliant, ya mad bugger!
8) :-* 8)
Love the new Dino's, they have come out really well and those 'Southers' look great.
8) 8)
I cannot help thinking that the headgear of the second Dino is based on something that you own yourself!
:D
-
This is all looking very interesting indeed.

Ist es etwas wert? Kann Ich es verkaufen? ;D

This is truly magnificently stupid. I congratulate you, but I wonder what you are smoking. lol lol lol
-
You've got to know what you're doing. I mean, some people think I'm mad. The villagers say I'm mad, the tourists say I'm mad, well I am mad, but I'm naturally mad. I don't use any chemicals. ;)
-
He IS mad, though.
Completely bonkers!
o_o o_o o_o
-
This thread is so much better than the other thread on the other forum! Lovly stuff fellas!
Is there gonna be an evil enchanter?
-
I have an evil Saurian Eldar enchanter if that counts?

Having started these at the same time I started this thread I guess I could say that they are finally finished.
I also have a squad of 8 iron heads almost done (80%), but it may be a while I actually get them finished.
-
Awesome! :-*
-
Brilliant!

Just a quick throw out idea ... Ikea sells crushed glass in different colours including purple. You could have some snazzy glass crystals on the bases if you felt so inclined.
All looks great as it is. Just thought I would mention. :)

So I finished another squad!
That almost brings me to the conclusion of this project.
I stated that I wanted to do 30 infantry and 5 dinosaurs. That would easily be 1500 pts worth of Victory Decision.
I now have 5 dinosaur riders, 4 dinosaurs, 18 infantry. Not far from the goal I think.

Thanks! I hope I finish the PDF at some point so I can lay the foundation to my galactic empire.

Ah - I am thinking about dino riders for a little side project. Have redirected two unpainted Urban War Viridian dino riders for this purpose. Thanks for taking me back ot my childhood!
As an aside - I just picked up a jar of Kulört (black) from Ikea this afternoon for general basing.
-

That is a shock ;)
Completely barking as usual, but I do like those yellow troopers...
-
That is a shock ;)
Sometimes I wonder if indeed this is not a three dimensional horse - falling off seems like a short fall but getting back up can be quite a long haul!!! ;)

A jar of kulør?! That's the product we use to colour gravy here.
I urge you to derail my topic with your efforts in dino riding. :D
-
It's all Dr. Zombie's fault - I've been reviewing the work of Simon Stålenhag for the last few days and going through my unpainted miniature collection seeking orphans for a small project (SSS maybe?) set in that world.
-
A jar of kulør?! That's the product we use to colour gravy here.
No, 'KULÖRT' is Ikea's name for the crushed coloured glass I linked to above lol

I'm too eager to share!!! Just can't wait. lol

These transport dinosaurs are just brilliant for so many things - they can be used for VSF, retro sci-fi and this. As objectives or part of the scenario in another way or whatever! Sheer joy!
OK, so the next instalment will probably be a bit further on the weird-o-meter for most people, but I think it'll end up quite happily!
First:

Can you see where I'm going with this?! :D

Brilliant! So you did the tailgunner after all and he even shoots the tail lol

Very clever, a robo dinosaur for the colonials to ride in and be camouflaged! 8)

Dino tank from $2 dino and spare parts.
I really want to get some paint on my Saurians, but they'll have to wait until I've done my Little Wars, Model Expo, NWA Open Day and commission jobs done. Such is the curse of the wargamer... lol

Yes, of course. The Cthulhu Statue is from Antimatter Games (http://antimatter-games.com/).
They also have a complete ruined temple to go with it, if you have the money ;)

Why resist? We have dinosaurs, miniatures AND rules! Resistance is futile!

-

Wot! You mean you don't have any already!? Heretic!
lol lol lol
I'd recommend your looking into Victory Decision no matter what you want to play. A very versatile and easy, albeit encompassing, set of rules.
-
I must admit to buying plastic dinosars too :(
I am quite amazed at how well a simple paint-job can elevate them from rubbish looking to acceptable :D
-
Whilst we are making confessions, I admit that when this thread first began I went out to the chinese import shop to ook for dinosaurs, and ended up buying an elephant as it happens. It wasnt white but it might as well have been. Needless to say it has sat in the closet gathering dust ever since.
Great to see how these dino-riders have turned out. I particularly like the baggage brontosaurus. It has such an expressive face.
-
I blame you and this topic for this...
Here's some comparison:

here's another pic:

I was quite surprised at how a simple paint job can transform these tacky little dinosaurs... and I got 12 for £1.00 :)
-
Wohoa!!!
That is AWESOME!
Send some my way! I want some of those!
-
I was quite surprised at how a simple paint job can transform these tacky little dinosaurs... and I got 12 for £1.00 :)
Those are rather good, Inso.
Lovely paintjobs.
:-* :-*
Where did you get them?
???
-
I had these dinosaurs in my hands too, today at the shop. But I resisted, for now....
-
I got mine from 'The Entertainer' toy shop. The bages were just hung up in strips with African animals and aquatic animals in between them. For £1.00, I couldn't go wrong (especially after seeing what has been created in this topic :D ).
-
Another one:
There is something therapeutic about slapping a few layers of paint on cheap and cheerful plastic toys :D
-
Fabulous!
-
Inso those are great!
-
They are just simple re-paints (and I doubt the paint will stay on for long :) )... not at all as cool as some of the conversions on this thread :-*.

Just lovely work mate!
I always varnish quite heavily on these plastic things. :D
-
Lovely Work, but they really, really need some BIG GUNS! :D
-
THIS is because I choice to join this forum :-* To see something different from the "free" forums that are usually only the domain of GW cultists. Il like GW miniatures and specialistic games (especially some of the vintage ones) but sometine seem that most of the players have only eyes on the GW universe, don't considering other wargames or skirmish games, and snubbing, ignoring or belittling all the other jobs.
EXCELLENT idea and paint job, it remember to me a little about the old "dinoriders" cartoon and toys ;)
-

Inspired by the cool stuff in this thread, I decided to make a Dino with guns myself.

Took me long enough, but I finally got a test mini painted:
Not my most complex paint scheme, but I tend to take it easy on the rank-and-file anyway, lest I go nuts.
-
Weeehooo!
Nice!
I'm gathering up courage to actually play the scenarios that I've written now.
-
Finished another test model, this time a Predasaur:

Larger and less intelligent than the Saurians, Predadaurs are used as shock troops, equipped only with LMGs and slashing fangs, they are a force to be reckoned with, assuming they attack the right target.

Awesome!
What a brilliant model/build! Are you going to make more than the one?
Things are a bit dull here in dinoland otherwise. I'm still waiting for Jonas to paint his force so we can start gaming. lol
I might introduce another force of my own while I'm waiting though. I have the perfect idea. But not the money or the figures... dang! ;D
-
Things are a bit dull here in dinoland otherwise. I'm still waiting for Jonas to paint his force so we can start gaming. lol
Yes mommy, I have dinosaur.
-
Thanks, the Predasaur is the first of of ten (two squads of five), it's a toy of the same name with, of course, an Ork Shoota. Found the toys for $2AUD each at my local store.
Finished another six Saurians, from a mix of squads because I didn't pay close attention to what I was painting.
I should be getting a few games in with them over the next couple of months, keep an eye out for another thread, coming soon.

No we haven't really. Things stalled a bit waiting for Jonas to finish his force.
I wrote quite a bit of background, scenarios and rules for Victory Decision but my computer died and killed it all. I never really found the spirit after that.
-
No, we actually did play a game last summer and I believe I have the pics to prove it. Will look for them :D
-
Apology guys - I got the threads mixed up.
-
You were partly correct Von Lucky, I did get [a tad] carried away and kept going. Should be playing some Warpath: Firefight with the army later in the year. Stay tuned to the thread!
