Title: Argonor's (hopefully) ongoing Strange Aeons/VuK thread.
Post by: Argonor on March 03, 2014, 09:24:18 PM
Finished painting these two yeasterday.

They are Victorian/Gothic Horror 'Evil Henchmen' from West Wind Productions Classic Vampire Wars range, but for now I'll use them as inbred degenerates for my VuK Cult de Ghouls (and maybe for Strange Aeons Lurkers, too).

I'm wondering if it works linking a pic from a blog (EDIT: It worked!):

Kind of iffy on the actual sculpts themselves but must agree you've really done them justice. Looking forward to seeing more of your work and thanks for sharing.

Thanks, guys, much appreciated!  :)

There's a lot more to be seen on my blog (http://www.argonor-wargames.blogspot.dk/), including an AAR of a Strange Aeons game.

You can also see some of my minis for SA/VuK in the LPC.

I'll post some 'teasers' up here, everytime I do something befitting the subject.

Breakdowns of the colours will (almost) always be on my blog, as I also use it as my painting log. It won't get misplaced this way  ;)

If someone has questions about anything, I'll be more than happy to help, if I can (I'm not a Master of Painting, like some of the other honoured patrons of this site, but I strive for ongoing improvement, and if I can ease the way towards good results for others, it makes my learning-by-doing much more worth - beside teaching me, what NOT to do  lol ).

You can ask here or comment on the blog (comments/suggestions/criticism are/is more than welcome - it's the only way I'll learn and improve!).

Nice work, sir!
 :-*

I like those rather quirky sculpts.

I had quite a few of that range some years ago, making up a rather 'different' looking Blood Bowl team out of them.
Love since sold, but I do have fond memories of painting them

Looking forward to updates.

I finished a mini earlier this afternoon (flock drying on base now), and I shall post a pic later this evening.

It's another Vampire Wars mini, but still one I intend to use for my Eastern European Cult de Ghouls.

Toady has officially been renamed 'Vladimir', but I cannot comment further on the matter.  :)

Yup, I use the painting clubs to get projects on tracks. It's awfully nice to have more than one kind of incentive to get some minis finished. It also helps that I have been at home with a strained ankle the last 2 weeks.  :?

I had planned for my Cult de Ghouls to get finished 3rd, after Dagonites, and a Death Cult, as I had to do the most minis for it, but the LPC gave me the opportunity to move it forward.

I am working on the Magus for my Dagonites (the only model pending for it), but I got delayed watching a lot of TV about current events (on which should not be commented here).

I just had to order a few minis from Heresy today - I was quite certain, I had the 'Vampire in Bat-form' from an earlier order, but its whereabouts eludes me, and I need it for Strange Aeons purposes, so I ordered it, and a Dark Lord, and a Witch with Cauldron, I'll use for a Witches' Coven with a couple of Dark Sword minis, and a Black Cat tavern dancer (gypsy girl). I should see if I can get some gypsies to use as guards/minions...

Love all the new additions, but my favourite has to be the 'cultist'.
Some lovely vibrant colours on that fella.

Thanks, I was trying out the colours I intend to use on Victorian British troops, and I think it's going to be just that red and blue. My long-term plan with the cossacks is to have one 'mob' painted like this, and another in reversed colours, to use a henchmen in Chaos in Carpathia (yes, I still intend to game it, although I've had the rules for years - when the painting clubs hit Gothic Horror, Colonial, and VSF, I should get around to finishing some warbands).

Great stuff here and proof that the Lovecraftian Painting Circle really works!

Thanks; as I stated, the painting clubs really work for me in the sense of spurring on my efforts to get projects finished/back on tracks.

Nice work, Nils!
Love the colour scheme.

Incidentally, I have the same figure who is destined to be the leader of the Cult element of my Chinese Tong collection.
Whenever I get around to painting them that is.

Great minds..... ;)

Love the colour scheme.
 :-* :-*

Thanks, I chose it several years ago for the Hooded Minions as a homage to Hergé, but purple is a fine colour for any sort of sinister organization  :)

Great minds..... ;)

Heheh - that particular mini just screams 'cult leader', and it does have that oriental flavour, too.

As promised, the line-up of my Dagonites:

Now, I have a couple of minis that I want to finish for the LPC. Let's see if I can get them done in time!

Mmm.. yes, I need to get some of those Artizan cultists, at some point...

Is the guy with the rifle a Jade Hood minion? And who makes the praying woman, please? I don't recognize that one  :?

I think the one with the teddy is West Wind, right?

I have two of those Suicide Cultists, and I should probably get at least one done up for my upcoming Death Cult  ;)

The chap in the shirt is Shotgun Bob, from Pulp Figures.

Maniac with teddy is indeed Westwind.

As for the praying woman: She is a Foundry Maid Marian with her legs removed.... ;)

My Coven takes shape. There WILL be blood!

And, having just received Fhtagn! #5, I think I have to buy a Wendigo.

I thought I had seen a Reaper mini thet resembles the Marvel character (which would make it double-usable) but I cannot find it in their store right now. Can somnebody point it out to me?

I just discovered that it was Sasquatch, I remembered. Oh, well...  ::)

Thanks, I shall. I am quite focussed on Cthulhu/Pulp-Horror right now, but I must turn my attention more towards Gothic Horror soonish, as I have a semi-commission (I'll explain later) incoming.

The good thing is, a lot of the stuff I'm plannig can be used for SA/VuK, too  ;)

Tomorrow afternoon I'm going to Horisont VI for the whole weekend - and after that I'll start readying the church for priming, and begin basing a whole sprue of cemetary elements, also from Renedra.

My next (larger) project is getting a full churchyard ready for my first game of VuK (already have those 2 cults painted), and in the meantime, I think we'll play a few games of SA and PA.

 :)

Well, the church is sitting fully assembled on a shelf, awaiting some putty work where the bell tower meets the roof, and I need to get through this week before being able to allot time to this project.  :?

Darn - always too much to do with too little time to do it.

Been a while, but as the 2nd Ed. rulebook should - hopefully - arrive around here within an overseeable amount of time, I thought I would review this thread and see if I can get something moving.

Actually, the church has not seen any progress, but I recently pulled it out and placed it on my workspace to get something done, but other projects - among which is cleaning 12 scarecrows/corndolls that I originally purchased for Frostgrave, but are now planned for use in the Weird West, and other horror-themed gaming, so guess what...?  ;)
