Title: Cold War Era Miniatures Wish List
Post by: carlos marighela on April 03, 2014, 09:18:13 AM
Anyone fell free to chime in. I gather if 10 of us play the game, brother Arlequin will create a poll.

1) Cubans for the Revolution. A character pack of Fidel, Che, Raul and my favourite Cuban, Camilo Cienfuegos. A guerilla pack and some packs of Batista's Army.

2) Cubans for the Bay of Pigs. A couple of packets of Brigadistas/ CIA puppets/ latifundista running dogs plus People's Militia.

3) US Army for the 1960s (not Vietnam) M-14s, OG 107 fatigues.

4) Soviet Army for the 1950s and '60s. Gymnastierkas, AK-47s, RPDs and RPG-2.

5) Yemeni tribesmen for Aden.

6) British Army 1946-58. A suitable range of British Army in tropical kit for Palestine, Cyprus, Suez and Mau Mau. Beret, bush hat and helmet head variants.

7) Che and friends Bolivia.

8) Salvadorean Army and FMLN guerillas

9) 1980s Swedes.

10) 1960s/ 70s Chinese PLA. The classic Mao cap and suit look.

Edit: Poll added and stickied. I've tried to keep them in a rough chronological order, but any other additions will have to be added after the current list, as otherwise it will wipe the poll completely. If you want to change your vote you can, but you'll have to re-do the entire poll selections from scratch. You can choose as many or as few as you like though and the limit will be changed if, or as, new selections are suggested.

I like all of CMs suggestions and I'd like to see juergens's but in 28mm. ;)

These in 28mm for me please:

1) Mid-1960s Belgian Paras for Dragon Rouge

2) 70s French for Kolwezi

3) 60s-70s SAS in tropical/desert kit with M16s & GPMGs

4) 1960s Simba rebels for the Congo

5) Generic scruffy-looking African soldiery in fatigues with M1 helmets and SLRs and AK47s - possible head variants of berets, bush hats and peaked cap with neck flap.

6) Mr Hicks to add to the Congo mercenaries range he did for Mongrel. (I can wish! ;))

7) 70s-style mercenaries/terrs/freedom fighters - mix of ethnicities with Swedish Ks, UZIs, MAC 10s, AKs, RPKs, SLRs etc. Dressed for the tropics.

8 ) Entebbe Isrealis with UZIs and AK47s, wool-knit caps and turtle-necks.

9) 60s-70s 'armed civilians' - western cloths for warm climates, male and female, mix of military weapons from handguns to LMGs. NOT KKBB style. Iron Curtain types too for KGB.

10) Late 70s/early 80s Pathet Lao/Khmer Rouge types

11) 70s tropical Soviets in caps - not necessarily for Afghanistan

I'm sure I'll think of more as the day goes on… lol

Indeed I will and with Juergan and Earther, that makes five.

I'll also make it multi-scale, we're not sizeist. :)

Some great ideas here but if it isn't 15(or 6 or 3) mm then I am not buying.

Gracias,

Glenn

I'd ditto Juergen and Earther on the 60's-70's African wars stuff (More Simba, Congo Mercs, Generic African infantry, etc, etc)

I would also welcome anything new in 'about 40mm' which would be compatible with the old HLBS range! If that was to include 'Ultra' modern (as opposed the HLBS figure which are very 90's) Russians, Georgians for the 2008 war, some distinctly 'chechen' flavoured militia and/or some more 'Centeral European'/Balkans milita then I think my current gaming dreams would have come true!

A comprehensive Korean War range with all UN countries present represented, ideally as an extension of Red Star Miniatures existing French Indo-China range. Though for the moment I'll just settle for more troops for Vietnam, Moroccans/Algerians being my first choice. Also would like to see figures for all countries envolved in the 1948 Arab Israeli -War.

Okay that's over ten, so I'll be doing the poll and what not over the weekend.

Because it's likely to be a long list of items, in a number of scales, I'm going to limit it to Cold War only... i.e. 1948 to 1985.

However, because clearly there is a groundswell of wants for more recent things (1985+), I'm happy to do one for that too... and yes I know the Cold War finished officially in 1991, but 1985 is more convenient as it lines up better with the introduction of PASGT, 120mm guns on M1A1 Abrams, Apache Gunships and a few other hi-tech items. Suggestions for the thread title are of course welcome.

Drop your wants and needs here for now and I'll swap, chop and arrange... if nobody minds me editing their posts, so that suggestions go in their appropriate poll threads.

Everyone happy?  :)

Post '85 one will be done presently.  :)

We're all going to agree to disagree :)

Does anyone already make 28mm miniatures in tropical dress? Actually, has anyone scratch built the Dr. No flame-throwing armoured tractor?

It's a very diverse period as far as appearance of troops goes. Post-'85 armies appear (to me anyway as a casual observer) far less variable in the main, with only subtle differences in weapon or helmet choice being the main distinctions. That's probably an over-simplification on my part perhaps though.

I've added the DDR/BRD Border Troops here too, as they looked out of place and somewhat lonely on the post '85 Poll with all that Ultramodern stuff.  ::)

a lot of the 20mm UN and African troops could be made already with our multi head option figs, we have a lot of different head options and they are armed with fn weapons and the range included mg's mortars, and art crews.

Sorry only just noticed this thread.

I'd like to add Vietnam era US Sailors. I don't suppose that there would be much demand but there seems to be a gap in the market.

Cold War and Post Cold War Poles, Livonians, and Ukrainians, like a before and after series for each of them.

Urban chaos types, including Brazilian Favelas and Colombian Narcos, as well as their police.

Resistance fighters from the PLO, Central and South America.

I love the tropical CIA/DEA/XYZ operators idea.

I would really like to see modern Mexicans: cartels, local and federal police, army, and civilians trying to survive.  Mexican cartel gangsters are scarier than *#$% in real life.

There's a die-cast that works perfectly with 28mm.  The cars in the range were 1/43, but the Dr No tank is smaller to fit in the box.  There are usually lots on ebay.
