Title: Argonor's Retro Sci-Fi Thread.
Post by: Argonor on May 08, 2014, 05:18:32 PM
I have embarked on yet another journey into the unknown - this time I'm doing something COMPLETELY different.

I have had a bunch of Retro Sci-fi minis from Hydra and Blue Moon in a box somewhere quite a few years, and I thought that I would do something with them (or rather, start a project where they might find some use).

My plan is to do some adventure-style gaming, combining space combat with planetside action, and to this end I ordered the War Rocket rules, and 2 sets of small spacecraft. I am going to finish 3 'rockets' for both the Galacteers and the Zenithians to use for a demo game at Attic Attack I, then order some more to expand the forces.

I finished the Galacteer Comets (Class I) today:

I have started painting the Zenithians, and I expect to get them finished this upcoming weekend, as the colour scheme I'm using is very simple.

When I get some 28/30mm minis done, I'll use Fantastic Worlds for the up-close-and-personal action, at least until Hydra releases the Retro Raygun ruleset, then we'll see...

Give that man a cigar!  ;)

Thanks, everybody!

I didn't come up with the scheme myself; the rule book has a picture of a Class 2 rocket from the 'Famous Lightyear Squadron', but I really like the idea, and I'm going to paint som 28/30mm crew in corresponding colours.

Those are 6mm sized, btw... does anyone know of any 6mm retro sci-fi infantry, and/or vehicles, and/or buildings? I may have to start collecting soft-shaped soap containers, and the likes for some scratch-building.

hehe... Actually, I think I'm going to use the saucers for the Retro Raygun Robot Legion. Their erratic flight patterns befit AI, and I painted the domes to match the glowing red eyes of the robots (no, I haven't painted any, yet, I have them - and some Galacteers including at least one limited ed. fig in a box... somewhere... should go looking... ::)  )

I hope so - depends on me being able to attend (I havre to work some weekends, but I hope that I can switch duty, should Horisont fall on a work weekend).

There's also the possiblity of playing with them next weekend and Attic Attack I  ;)

I am going to order some more ships soonish, to flesh out the forces a bit more.

I'm hosting retro sci-fi too. Maybe a joint venture? You handle the space episodes and I handle the ground?

Very cool. Just saw an image of a Glacteer Class 4 Rocket.

You REALLY need one of those.  :D

I build up the forces slowly, to prevent hoarding the ships. New take on the hobby...   lol

Well, it presents me with manageable tasks, instead of getting me bored with endless painting of near-identical paintjobs.  :)

I just noticed the two Galacteer Class 2 rockets sitting, cleaned up and based for about two years on my prepping station. Damn, I need to get them painted, and play some more War Rocket!  :?

Too many projects, but, hey, at least it provides variation, the spice of life!  lol

Not really, I just spread myself over far too many projects. But then I can always find something to catch my interest, should I feel bored by the stuff currently in front of me (but I am slowly getting better at setting short-term goals and keeping focussed).

Well, the rockets will have to wait until I need a break from my Vikings (and I also have to paint a figure for my Christmas Wars project this month if I am to keep to the plan...)

I think this looks cool too!

I hope you will also make a terrain for the vikings once.
