Well I can't take any credit for the idea...
Wonderful idea.
A soldier with grass in his hat...will be difficult to beat! ;)
How do you add a badge and where do I find it?
Chaps, gentle reminder not to forget to label your entries with numbers :)Thanks for the reminder, James.

No. 14: Turkish machine-gun spotter, 1916
I like him :)
Quite a useful character...
He has a Thomson and Thompson look about him.
Priceless, these guys!
This one, the second from the right, what a mien :)
Well I can't take any credit for the idea...\

I was afraid of making him too ragged for fear of overdoing it and spoiling the figure, but now I think I didn't make him nearly tatty enough!

No.1 - "No Country for Pukka Soldiering"
No. 21 Brigade Games USMC Officer
To be perfectly honest I have no idea what kind of pistol he is suppose to be holding. It should be an M1911 .45 semi-automatic, it looks closer to the M1917 Revolver used by the US Army and rarely by the US Marine Corps. I kind of think it looks more like some kind of Ray Gun.
No. 21 Great War Miniatures US Army Officer
I have totally mis-identified this miniature. It came out of my pile of USMC from Brigade Games but its actually from Great War Miniatures pack US001 US Officers and NCOs. So he is correctly holding an M1917 revolver instead of a .45. I had forgotten that I was using a number of packs of Great War Miniatures as fill ins for things I couldn't get from Brigade Games. The revolver still looks awful.
#22 American Doughboy
(I think)
This is the only figure I think I own that may be from WW1 - all I know is he is definitely a Murch figure.
That's lovely, Dylan
Really? Huh. I couldn't find him on the Pulp Figures site, but I am dead certain he is a Murch figure, and he looked an awful lot like a WW1 uniform to me...well, we'll see if I get added to the list or removed...
Really? Huh. I couldn't find him on the Pulp Figures site, but I am dead certain he is a Murch figure, and he looked an awful lot like a WW1 uniform to me...well, we'll see if I get added to the list or removed...I think its fine, no point in removing it! Intention has to count for something.
He is not your standard American Doughboy with that helmet. He could be are Harlem Hellfighter though, in which case he would be a black soldier still a member of the US Army but serving in a segregated unit with the French. The facial features of the casting at least suggest that he might be black.
I think its fine, no point in removing it! Intention has to count for something.
Added. Your intention was to paint a doughboy so it would be extremely petty to disallow it.
The quote comes from an officer of the Mountain Battery, who while walking down a bush trail came under fire from a German MG. Diving into the bush for safety he landed squarely on top of a leopard, which luckily jumped up and bolted at the indignity of being sat on like this. But that was the final straw after all the heat, sickness and fatigue, and he declared East Africa to be 'no country for pukka soldiering.'

This painting club is indeed a slow burn, but all the better for that in terms of the thoughtfulness and quality of the entries.

I was wondering if they would be acceptable for this? If no, I'll keep looking for something to paint.
Nice mini, but you need to number it!
63 not finished
Early war did not started in trenches, so there should be some greenery on the bases?

No 74 Char Mitrailleuse Minerva - 1914
Hello,
After 10 days working on this model part-time I now present to you my finish model as digital can deliver:

The Minerva is made by 1st Corps. The crew are from Great War Miniatures except for the bottom half of the driver which came from the model crew. The majority converted to suit the model.
The crew are from the following:
Officer - Guide Cavalry;
Gunner - Trooper, 1st Chasseurs a cheval;
Driver - Private Carabinier Regiment; and
Observer - NCO Grenadier Regiment.
This model is made in gratitude for the help I needed to get back into 1914 from Kris, Phil and David. Thank you guys very much.
I look forward to Great War Miniatures releasing more early war miniatures in the future.
All the best,
Helen
Thanks Phil and Kane for your kindest words. Kane, we need more recruits for this early period. So please, get your fingers painting.Nooooo, I'm still too much into WW II :D . But yes, I intend to do the brave little Belgians, as I am one myself (well, Belgian anyway).
Kane, I'm not in control of the output for the painting club, but I'm sure if you speak with the moderator he may have some thoughts.
All the best,
Helen
As far as Albert I goes, I think rather than reserve the 100 slot for him at this late hour, we'll allow him as an extra "epilogue" figure to round things off, if Kane wants to paint him. Don't want someone missing out on the club and getting annoyed because one slot had been taken away at such late notice.

I think that the GWM horses make a good match for the Trakehers favoured by Prussian cavalry units :-)
Much depends on whether GWMs plan on releasing Mounted Jägers at some point, but at present, I'm aiming for a squadron of six castings to go with the Infantry Brigade and a regiment of twelve to go in the Cavalry Brigade. I'd rather that GWM sold the mounted jägers than face filing away all that detail on the Uhlan uniforms for the second regiment in the brigade though!
I'm planning to have dismounted figures to go with the Uhlan Regiment, but none for the squadron attached to the brigade.
I'm hoping (hint, hint) that the dismounted Uhlan MG crew (as well as the MG carriage) will also be released sooner rather than later ;)
Great work Tim. You beat me to him... the varnish is drying on my version of that model and was going to join the club tonight. doh!

I don't see the point of debating figure group on vignette base vs figure group on singular bases, as long as there is a coherent theme :)
I am simply glad to be offered painting incentives
OK, you win the debate on account of life being too short. ;D
Well, I did notice the rule and then realised it wasn't being applied. So I cracked on and followed the precedent of treating each vignette as a single entry so as not to skew things ;D
Had people kept to the rules and posted one figure per day, rather than posting two, three, five at a time, we would have comfortably finished the club by now, and been able to move onto another one. Instead of which, it is limping oh-so-slowly home, and has almost fizzled out.
Pity.
• You may post only one miniature each day. And only one, not a few or a lot. We don’t want to get to "game over" too soon. (That said, several shots from different angles are acceptable, of course.)
• Once entered, you don’t have to post every day. It’s perfectly sufficient to post just one single miniature at all in order to take part in the game and to become a member of our shiny Ancients Painting Club.
• This is not about showing your collection of already painted stuff, so please do post only newly painted miniatures. We’re not in a hurry, so take your time.
• If you want to present miniatures which are to be based in groups, it's fine to post them one by one without a finished base. A concluding picture of the final result would be nice, though.

No, mucker, you ran it according to the ethics of this forum as I've come to know it rather than let tight arses rules constrain creativity. LAF is about fun and frivolity rather than pedantry :)
Alternatively, Helen, myself, and a few others could end this in a few days (or even hours), but where's the fun in that?
Come on, this is not what LAF is all about...
##Redacted##
Apologies for violating the club rules.
Oh, go on prof_nexus - put the tankies back up - they were lovely (or if you're very concerned about the rules take a picture of just one and put it up!)
Anyway, here's another mini for the club: Battle Honours British infantryman serving in... well.. places warmer than the western front! I'd originally bought him to serve in Africa, but he may see action in the Miniature Middle East at some point!
Are we at No. 86 then?
#86 Great War miniatures German sniper
It's an easy shot to equate 'rules' with 'pedantry'. I'm not sure you would be so happy with this forum if we threw away all the rules and just let nature and creativity take its course...
Conflating my support for Plynkes flexible approach with a desire for anarchy is disingenuous of you, Capt B.
And conflating my perfectly reasonable support for the simple rules of this fun little group project with 'tight arses constraining creativity' and 'pedantry' was disingenuous of you.
