I want to share some pictures of my new project.
After a year of painting almost only ECW stuff, I decided that my FireForge boxes and Perry WotR boxes would go to different sides of Saga crescent and cross style Westeros wargaming.
As Saga has even reached my quiet home in Bremen, that seemed the decision to be made.
First I built the whole two FireForge boxes to have
2*4 knights on foot
4*8 warriors on foot
4*12 levies
sowie die 12 knights on horses
First pictures:

My interpretation of a standard of the Iron Islands
(http://leadadventureforum.com/gallery/18/5257_01_09_14_8_34_29_0.jpg)
And, as time went by after shooting pictures there is one finished warrior of house Hornwood of Hornwood.
The picture is too dull, I know, I'll try to learn.
Btw: The shield was made using a decal of schildschmie.de
More to follow

Some sweet looking plastic there. I like the painted example you've done. I look forward to seeing how they look in a group. I really liked the terrain in the background.
-
I like the Iron Isles standard 8)
Looking forward to seeing some more :)

Hi, thanks a lot!
I made another picture:

Very nice work
-
Always good to see GoT threads! Nicely painted mini's you got there!
Looking forward to the painted Ironborn bannerman
-
Nice work - looking forward to seeing the rest painted - especially the bannerman
-
Thanks!
I wanted to present frequent updates and so I made progress with my first warrior unit. Decals nicely done, shields done and the only thing left was to take away the shine from the shield. So I took the spray can and .... o_o ... ruined them all.
So I have to try to remake them after the desaster. I swear I will not use these spray cans any more.
Please note: I was not using primer instead of finish lol
Hope to write again soon..
GS
-
Good luck mate. We are waiting to see how they were remade. :)
-
Thanks, work is going on - and successful, I think.
Have to leave home tomorrow for some days. Next weekend it has to be before posting pictures.
Cheers

Sweet! Looking forward to more. Love these GoT projects.
My stalled Dux Westerosum project will be reappearing here soon. (Inshallah)

btw:
The GW guy in our local GW shop told me, that he advises everybody to test spray on some plastic material everey time they intend to finish any of their minis, because things like my incident happen frequently.
Cheers

They look great! Did you fashion decals for the house sigils? They look so nicely uniform to be freehand. Do share!
-
Thanks!
They are decal-made indeed.
I searched for proper pictures on the net and gave the adresses to schildschmie.de (http://schildschmie.de) for special fireforge foot soldier shield decals.
They do a splendid job. They have added these to their program as The North.

Steil! They look sharp. I had an artist friend create similar for Lannister, Stark and Greyjoy. He passed away last year and, not surprisingly, the wind went out of my hobby sails for a while. I have a similar vendor to make the shield transfers so maybe I'll go find similar art. Would you care to share your art for Stark bannermen (Manderly, Mallister, et al?) Maybe we could divide and conquer, then swap? I'd like to gather 6 for each major house to use as "household" knights in elite formations in Dux Britannarium or Saga.
-
Very nice!
Who is leading your Northern force?
And about decals - you found images and they made them for you like shield decals and banners? I do plan my own Westeros project and if it is so, that could help me a lot.
Greetings and keep them coming. :D
-
Those decals are excellent! Are they the waterslide or the 'sticker' type?
Any chance of a basic translation for those of us who can't speak German? lol
-
nice progress there !

What do you want translated? I'll give it a try... as long as it's not whole books.

lol Whoops. I should have been at least a little specific!
I was looking at the online store that you linked to, but I'm really not sure what I'd be getting with the different options, what do these mean:
Decal/Nassschiebefolie
Selbstklebende Folie
Also, would they ship to Australia?
-
...
Decal/Nassschiebefolie
Selbstklebende Folie
Also, would they ship to Australia?
OK, that's not too difficult to answer:
Decal/Nassschiebefolie means waterslide type
Selbstklebende Folie is the sticker type
They give prices for europe only, but that's only one e-mail to be written. My experience is that they answer in no more than 24 hours. As decals don't weigh too much, it won't be too expensive either. But surface-mail takes quite some time to Australia.
Give them a try and writ an e-mail, I'd say.

And on we go:

-
very nice indeed

Weiter so.
I am keeping the pace. 12 crossbow men are on the table right now. More levis and warriors to come.
Next weekend might be the time to finish them. Lucky me I don't have to make shields on the crossbowmen.

GS

I am keeping the pace.
It's all about the momentum. ;)
I've been trying to crawl out from under the inertia of NOT doing anything these many months. :(
-
Those shield decals!!!
The world of ice and fire book is making me want to hobby up some asoiaf minis again and those decals are just what I'm looking for!
Greyjoy and stark as a good a place as any to start but let's face it.... We're gonna need more houses....Bolton, Frey, Velaryon, targaryen, Lannister, stannis Baratheon honestly it's endless

Hi, I've done another part of my own kit bashing - GoT undead:

This one a Mantic zombie with a Fireforge helmet and spear using a paper hankerchief for a cape

Scary guy! :D
In my opionion the eyes could be even more blue :)

very nice indeed

Thanks a lot.
I'm particularly proud of the cape which I made after reading og the possibility to make one this way in this forum.
Here are some more shots of the growing undead (kit bashing) threat, inculding some ancient GW bones. Those are the second plastic kit I can remember in 28 mm scale:

Thanks a lot, Nala!
I still have some pictures in the quiver:

Thanks again, Nala,
I've been working on some kit bashing this very early morning to start creating some really interesting undead fellows:
Have a look.

These Mostly Dead Guys are UBERCOOL even as W.I.P. pieces. I love the mix of skeletal parts with fleshier folk. GREAT AND IMAGINATIVE WORK!
-
Those new ones look fantastic!! :o
-
Thanks, MyLord!
Here come some reinforcements for the human Side of the Scenaro: Crossbowmen. Again, those are generic soldiers to be used in many ways, therefor not distinguished by coat of arms clothing.

Really like this collection a lot. Great stuff.

You're certainly not hanging around!
To be honest, I did these minis in the past six months. But considering my children's handball and football and music instrument hobbies that have to be supported, too, I really think I am no lazy guy.
I am content with the output I produce. Just hope, even the people in this forum like it, too.
Here are some more pictures of foot knights and soldiers:

Lovely stuff! Great shields.

Great job, you are very prolific with your painting! The place that makes the GoT shield transfers - does the website have an english version, or will I have to google translate german to make an order?

You've scaled new heights with the latest group. They are WONDERFULLY painted & decked out in some OUTSTANDING livery. The shields are especially striking. VERY WELL DONE!

Thanks to all of you!

Cool, I have some GoT stuff lined up for the new year so I will likely want some transfers. Does he do custom transfers? I will likely be doing some of the less common houses and mercenary companies...

He has made three sets for me and they are brilliant.

Blimey! That's a mighty impressive collection, and a lovely bunch of conversions, too! :)

Good morning world!
I hereby present my next step in Westeros miniatures.

The following figures are made of a mix of Warlord games Celts, Gripping Beast Dark Age Warriors and Gripping Beast Saxon Thegns using Fireforge Foot Seargent Bits:

Looking goood!! :)
I agree: LOOKIN' GOOD! The conversions are TERRIFIC...kit bashing & some Green Stuffing are WONDERFUL ways to come up with unique pieces. AND the Big Rackham Rogues look FANTASTIC...GREAT WORK on some SPLENDID if somewhat intimidatingly detailed minis. VERY WELL DONE!

Inspirational! Two questions:
- Write more about how you fashioned those cloaks.
- What's the size comparison against those Rackham "giants"?
Keep it coming!

Excellent, the fur is very nice, great cloaks, will be following.

Thanks again

Lovely job on the Night's Watch - well done.
Plastic is such fun, isn't it? ;)
Are you going to get the Perry Agincourt - Orleans box? They lend themselves really well to Westeros... 8)
-
Thanks Captain,
I really have found my way to plastic figures. A year ago I didn't approve, but now.
Perry box:
I am really tempted, as I have the other Perry boxes still untouched in my hobby room. I will wait and see what my birthday brings and after that look to further expanding my already ridiculously swollen collection.
But first I will paint the remaining 24 of the Night's Guard. With this I will surely stage a fight at Crasters Keep at the local gemes fair in march.
Cheers

The Night Watch look SPLENDID even though I was anticipating something more Pratchett. The cloaks really make a difference in the minis appearance. GREAT WORK!
-
Yes, great cloaks, my borrow that idea, well done
-
stunning figures and a very well done paint job
-
Just another "Holy Carp, This is amazing!!" Response.
I will poach some of these ideas.
You, Sir, are a rockstar... Well Done. :)

Thanks chap, never been adressed like that. *blush*

The Men in Black turned out WONDERFULLY...I especially like the Crossbowmen. GREAT WORK!

Beautiful! They look like they're ready to defend The Wall!

These are fantastic! The Night's Watch look properly motley. Very nice movement in the minis, and great paint jobs!

Thanks, folks! :-*

Very nice paint jobs. I really like the crossbows and the way you painted the shields to make them look weathered and worn.

Great work all through this thread.Night's watch are impressive.

They look brilliant paints up, very natural looking conversions, we'll done.
-
Very nice paint jobs. I really like the crossbows and the way you painted the shields to make them look weathered and worn.
Thanks a lot!
The shields are quite easily done:
Plain black as a start, then I take one of my oldest and shaggiest brushes and paint some grey from the outside to the center. The old brush makes the brushwork seem streaky and unclean, as I leave out the center. Given an inkwash of my personal wash, thats allready it.

Sorry double post:
The first few guys from the south have appeared:
As usual I have mixed the base sprues for my southerners (gripping beast arabs) with the rest of my fire forge mounted seargents and the remains of the warlord games celts.

It finally has happened:
I had the chance to present my personal SAGA Westeros scenario at the Bremer Spieletage last weekend.
The scenario was the "Last Stand" from SAGA C&C, battleboards were the Anglo-Saxons for the White Wanderers and the Anglo-Danes for the Night's Watch.
Battle took place in the icy cold winter north of the Wall.
The 9 games that Weekend worked very well. I was warned that SAGA would be hard to present to people not suited to table top wargaming, but I learned that people adjusted their thinking very fast. Even mothers with 7 year old children did take on the game and played quite well.
In the last stand, a group of the Nights Watch gets caught in the cold night at Crasters Farm. The White Wanderers assault them with waves of undead. So the Watch are deployed around the center of the table and the Wanderers start the game needing to activate twice to get into melee range.
The Wanderers have 5 rounds to eliminiate the Watch foot soldiers, the Warlord being mounted.
Most games had their edge up to the last activation, so I am pleased with the days.
Cheers

Some great conversions and painting.
Have you decided which Saga factions to use for the different Westeros factions?
-
Those have come out really nice, great choice of warm colours.

Thanks!
I've done a presentation at a fair in Bremen, Germany. There I used Anglo-Saxons as "Others" and Anglo-Danes as Night's Watch.
The rest has to be decided yet. As a guideline I'd decide to use different faction boards for different scenarios. The play and feel comes from the combination of both szenario and faction board.

The Moors/Arab types, especially the cavalry, are BEAUTIFULLY painted treasures. VERY WELL DONE!
Being totally unfamiliar with the Westeros setting, I was surprised at how far South South was.

The Sun Spear warriors look really niche indeed!

I just forgot there is a thread over on the Saga forum about faction boards and GoT

Thank you Tom,
I have returned from Brügelburg to take another step in Westeros and the rest of the world of R.R.Martin:

Nice, are the free cities guard conversions?
Hi, first of all thanks!
The City guard are made of Perry Ansar with some Warlord games Greek Arms and spears. I used the Ansar shields as helmets. I just cut the hair/ upper half from the Ansar heads and glued the shields on top. Voila!

Just found this, some great work here. :-*

thanks a lot, mylord!
I have begun to plan the wildlings, too.
I had a couple of kelts in my mountain of lead, that had been primed in flesh. I think they are Renegade Miniatures. Please correct me, if I am wrong! I wanted them to be the base of my wildling men.
As I like the pictures of wildlings presented in the TV series Game of Thrones, the wildling men have to be clad in furs. the kelts don't have any on them, so I tried my humble skills with green stuff again:

Nice wildlings. Theres not really any plastic kits that work right out of the box for wildlings.
Any interest in the war in slavers bay? I'm eyeing off victrix Greeks/Romans/Carthaginians for the unsullied, new ghis legions and yunkai slave armies but I'm yet to commit.

Can't remember the description in the books. Anyway I would do them like mongols too.

Holy guacemole! You've got a really big bunch of Westerosi already :o :o
Do you have any idea how many you got in total?
-
Do you have any idea how many you got in total?
I don't have a count actually. But thinking of boxes and blisters I estimate there are some 100 northerners, includung 6 riders, about 95 southerners from Dorne or so including 29 riders, some 30 wildlings including 5 giants, 30 men of the nights watch and some 70 undead/white wanderers.
So in summa I have about 350 figures painted for the theme of Westeros. Added are 8 unsullied and 10 city guards from the free cities.
All of them painted in the last 13 months...
oops

Never any chance of boring me - I am enjoying the painted miniatures.

Thanks, very kind!
I have managed to have a game played with my GoT figures.
I was the umpire with the task to check the rules book (Hail Cesar) whenever necessary. As no one of us ever did a HC game, it became necessary quite often :D.
But I have a lot of pictures to show you all. Please excuse the limited quality of the shots.
The game was supposed to reflect some imaginary battle of northern troops on the border of Dorne, the northerners being supporters of Robert Baratheon during the war between Robert an the Targaryen king. There were no scenario conditions, just defeat the other side!

Because of my small table (just 180 cm * 110 cm) we measured cm instead of inches.
After 3 rounds of movement only with the northerners hardly moving at all the game went utterly wrong for the Dornish. They lost allmost all of their light cavalry in the first clashes ans the dornish divisions dissolved very quickly.
Both players criticized that you could not at all rely on the units to behave as you saw fit. This is because of the need to take an order test to move at all.
We might use the house rule of some Berlin Black Powder players giving every unit 1 or 2 moves every turn with the need to take a normal order test for formation tests or a very good test for more than the free moves.
All in all, the game went well. Felt good to have all the figures on the table.
Cheers

Great looking game!

I'm very late to this thread but this is terrific - especially the Night's Watch and the undead. I can't stand figures that are standing around but all of these have dynamic, action packed poses, full of movement and drama. Great stuff!

I do not own a copy of HC, but is it the these days seemingly omnipresent rule of 'fail to activate, forfeit the rest of your turn'?
Normally, I do not have anything against activation rolls (poorly trained troops being harder to control/motivate), but when a whole game (especially those with scenario objectives) can be lost because of a couple of bad rolls, which is the case when you do not get to activate anything else, just because one of your better units blunder a bit, it starts to get annoying.
-
After all the years I've gone without a game, I don't think I qualify as a gamer anymore, but all the WONDERFUL miniatures & terrain look FANTASTIC...AND I don't have to know the rules to enjoy the photos. VERY WELL DONE!

Sometimes I think a gamer becomes as much a state of mind as an activity. Kind of like Rincewind being a wizard in his blood and bone, no matter how incompetent he might have been.
Great to see all the figures in action. A fine looking spread.

They are bound to be sellswords and other rogues employed on allmost all sides of a war.
As I post these pictures, I see that my eyes have betrayed me again. There are quite some mold lines to be dealt with, still!

Some more amazing kitbashing there using a tonne of different kits. Thanks for sharing. I can't help thinking that gripping beast halberdier looks a bit like he has a hula skirt under his chain mail :)

Some really great conversions!!!
I love the hedge knight and badly hit archer the most, but the Tuly is also really fantastic!!
-
Some wonderful creations here! I think the septon's my favourite, but they're all a treat to look at.
-
I usually avoid threads about book or TV themed projects...I'm usually in the dark about such things, but since you were kind enough to comment on my stuff, I figured checking out your works. AND SPLENDID stuff it is! Your brushwork & especially your kit-bashing are OUTSTANDING! EXCELLENT WORK!

Thanks a lot to you, too. My personal favourite is the wounded archer as well, the Septon is a Frostgrave figure.

A sininister looking chap - blood red is surely an evil colour.

I think the sparrows in RR Martins SoIaF are described as the demons summoned by Cersey.

Nice work. Its good to see the GB bodies being kit bashed.

Thanx
I kept on painting some generic fighters:

Nice looking collection of buildings - have you made everything from the box, or is there more to come?
-
That's just it. As the buildings are designed to be modular, they can be put together in a zillion ways.
-
Simply great !
Les fruits de Provence sponsor officiel ? lol

Sorry, can't reply in french! Have no sponsors either! :'(
Fruit boxes are my cheap storing system for terrain, shoe boxes for miniatures.

I have converted and painted a lot of viking minis to wildlings of the north in the last months of 2016. Here is a groupshot of (half o my) my wildlings of the north:
Played a slave raid of wildlings against a northern defence in Dragon Rampant the week before last week and it turns out to be the system I will use for the local games fair in march this year.
Hope you like them, too!

You have been busier than a one armed paper hanger; AND everything looks WONDERFUL. OUTSTANDING WORK!
I really like the little Dragons...a clever idea!

Thanks guys!
really good additions ! How much time do you spend building and painting these!!!
I do not track my time but I'd guess it has taken about a weekend to paint ca. 15 minis. That is about 8-12 hours of netto painting time.
I love to paint and listen to audio books.

Hi again,
there has been a presentation at our local games fair.
I had a game of Dragon Rampant played with activation changed to card activation.
Scenario was a night raid of wildlings in the north of Westeros with some northerners defending.
have a look:

The game was played seven times and had all kinds of outcome. Wildlings and northerners allmost made it to a draw when it comes to counting wins. (3-4)

Thread resurrection:
I have found new power through this presentation:

That first knight, what's the breakdown on bitz used? He looks absolutely epic! I recognize the Frostgrave body, but the rest I don't know. Would love to have that helmet and that sword.
-
Arms pair is from Perry "WR 50 Foot Knights 1450-1500", head from Fireforge "Scandinavian Infantry".
Greetings
-
Hooray for threadomancy!
Nice work - especially like that first one, too!
-
Thanks a lot, guys!
I put together a Dothraki rider from early Roman Cavalry horse and human Body, Frostgrave cultist scythe and Frostgrave barbarian head.
Have a look:

Well that works nicely! Welcome back to the party!
-
Shamefully I somehow missed your thread...thought I’d gone through every post of the sticky but I was wrong.
Thank you for an excellent thread, bags of inspiration, loads of colour and some lovely conversions.
I particularly like the megalomaniacal spread of minis across so many different Houses, plus the Watch and the Dead.
Great to see some Dornish, plus also a really good Dothraki conversion
8)
-
Somehow I missed the thread too!
Excellent conversions though! Interesting ideas for the Dothraki too! It'll be great to see how it looks painted!
With your third knight, with the beard and the pointy kettle hat where did that head come from, out of curiosity?
Keep up the great work!
-
Thanks a lot pal! The thread has been almost down the drain, i suppose! lol

That's a great mini to use for The Mountain, gets across his size without feeling out of scale with the others

That ugy is using an AOS not-space-marine right?
