Apologies for another westeros thread- first up is a baratheon spearman. I didn't go for sigils on the rank-and-file, as I figured that they're more likely to just bear the colours of the house. This is just a fireforge mini, no conversions or anything. The paint job was pretty rushed (it's a test piece), but it's good enough for the tabletop. I need to add some tufts, too.

Eventually I'd like to do some Starks, Tullys and Lannisters too. I'm going to focus on the conflicts in the first three books.
-
Nice model mate, looking forward for the next. :D
-
We can't have enough Westeros threads!! ;D
I really like your base (the miniature is cool as well, ;))
-
Nice beginning and as others said you can never have to many Westeros threads
-
Well, it's been a while, but I finally finished the spearman, a mate of his, and a nasty Bolton for them to beat up. I've based them with a snowy theme, to represent the troops around the battle of Winterfell, although having as much snow as is in the books would be a bit too difficult I think.
First, the Bolton:

Now the two goodies:

I will hopefully update this before next year... I'm aiming to have a couple of small SoBH war bands done in the next couple of weeks.
-
I like the colour scheme on that Bolton.

Cheers mate. Unfortunately I had a bit of a disaster when painting them- I decided to use a brand new game colour black, and it came out incredibly glossy. So now my other (WIP) Boltons look more like servants of Slaneesh in patent leather... In any case, I need to highlight it a bit more, although I'm worried about it then just looking grey.
I've learned my lesson though, next time I'll be sure to test my paints.
-
Matt/anti-shine varnish should help. I use Army Painter and have no issues.
The minis look great :)
-
So, this project died an abrupt death due to an unfortunate Spring cleaning incident.
However, I've been inspired by the release of the Perry French infantry, so I've got some of them on the way. The only remaining miniature from the previous incarnation of this project was an archer, so I've painted him up in my Bolton scheme, and based him to look like he's in fairly deep snow. Photographing said base has proven to be a little tricky, but hopefully you'll get the idea. The base was still wet when photographed, so the shininess should go away soon.

I agree - MORE Westeros!
You've made a nice start to the project. Might I suggest a tad of drybrushing to suggest fresh snowfall to unify the base with the figures...?

Cheers mate I'm looking forward to getting some more done. I'm not sure what you mean about the drybrushing though- do you mean flecks of snow on the clothes?
-
Yep that's the sort of thing - it also 'distresses' the clothing and makes it look more lived in
-
I'll give it a go! Just realised I forgot to highlight the face and hair, too. :`
-
Nice figure. Still love that colour scheme. Wish I'd thought of that instead of all-pink! ::)

You should try it! The colour scheme in my head was a red-black, somewhat like the blue black of your Starks; but I don't have the skills to pull it off!
Anyhow, I've highlighted the skin a little and added some weathering. I quite like the weathering actually. Great idea, sukhe_bator!

Now he looks suitably colder! Take it from someone who knows - medieval footwear was not that great at keeping out the wet cold... :'(
-
The snow on his clothing looks great.
Very brave to risk doing that to a figure you've just painted - but I'd say it works a treat.
-
I agree with the good Captain. It takes a bit of nerve but it has really paid off.
You don't want to overdo it though http://blogs-images.forbes.com/insertcoin/files/2015/06/snow1-e1434299165356-1940x1093.jpg ;D lol :D
My flag making method involves crumpling the finished flag up closely before teasing it out. I find next to drybrushing that is an equally cringeworthy moment...
-
Thanks guys! Much appreciated. The snow is actually a 'texture paste' that I got from my local art store- I believe it is marble dust and some kind of paint. It is similar to most textured paints for modelling, but a much finer grit. So drybrushing that on was pretty easy, and it dries slightly translucent, so it gives a good effect.
Now, the long slow wait for his future comrades to get here from Wayland...
-
So, a month after I paid for them, my minis are finally shipped from Wayland Games. In another couple of weeks, I should have them and this project can proceed.
I'm planning on two 36 point armies for dragon rampant, one an alliance of savage Boltons and treacherous Freys; and the other an alliance of Baratheons, Mormonts, and Manderleys.

I like this match up. May the Freys and Boltons get the drubbing they so richly deserve!
-
Well, it has been quite a while. Nothing too exciting, but my Bolton retinue is beginning to take shape:

Looking good so far! :D
-
Cheers mate. Got them all (and a few others) primed back tonight. I'd post a pic but it's probably not necessary...
First time using an airbrush, and I have to say that I'm a convert. So much easier than spray cans!
-
Looking forward to seeing them done :)

A quick WIP update:

Really like the color on those Boltons, well done! :)

Another WiP:

At the moment, I'm done with these fellas. They will be getting pavise shields, but that has to wait until I work out how I plan to do sigils...
-
Nice 8)
-
The one on the far left is the dog's bollocks! :-*
-
Thanks gents. :D 8)

Still pretty slow going, but here's the latest WIP. I'm aiming to get the unit of 12 done by the end of the week... ::)

Liking the guy in the middle :) He looks like a no nonsense sort of chap! I have a box of French Infantry too, awaiting unpacking though as first I need to finish some cavalry, but looking at your Boltons makes me want to hurry up :D
Looking forwards to more!
Cheers
Gary

Bolton unit finished*!!!

*Just waiting for transfer paper to arrive, and then they'll all get shields. A few tufts are also required, but they have to wait until the snow has dried. First time I've set myself a unit goal and met it, so I'm feeling pretty chuffed. Might have only been 6 men in a week or so... lol
-
Looks real nice, for Boltons that is ;).

Thanks mate ;)
I've got 6 Foot Knights, 10 dogs, and two handlers to go for the Bolton contingent. Umming and ahhing about some archers, too.
-
Very good Matt :)
-
Congrats on meeting your unit goal! Don't stop now!
And whose transfers are you using?

Home-made transfers... So here's hoping it all works. lol
-
Well, I've spent the last couple of weeks assembling rather than painting, so I've added a couple of dozen more to the painting queue!
Here's my limited progress on the painting front:

Are they all Fireforge models or are you using other brands too?

Those are all Perry French infantry- and that's it so far. ;)
-
Alrighty. It's been a while since I've updated this thread, but I have a reasonable amount to show for it (at least I think so).
My Bolton army list for Dragon Rampant will be:
1 unit of elite foot that cause fear (Men at Arms) 8pts
1 unit of heavy foot (pavesiers) 4pts
1 unit of bellicose foot (axes) 4pts
2 units of lesser warbeasts (Ramsay's dogs) 8pts
Here it is so far in the flesh:

very nice indeed
-
Well, the bulk of the painting is done, and here they are on a 'scenic' base. I've still got to add a few tufts here and there, and to work out what I'd like to do with the sigils, but I'd like to get moving onto another house soon. I can't decide if I should finish my 'baddies' and do a load of Freys, or go for some of the good guys...
Anyhow, without further ado:

House Bolton has never looked better!
I really like the pink, its noticeable but not dominating and it works.
-
nice
-
I agree with munidk about the pink, they look great!
-
Lush. Look great on the snow.
-
Lookin good :-*
'Flaying tonight!' I reckon lol
-
Thanks guys! First "full" army I've painted in quite some time.
I think I'll paint up a practice Mormont next. Don't hold your breath for it though lol
-
Loving the unit organisation - especially the 2 units of lesser warbeasts i.e. hunting dog packs - an excellent notion with the two archers as the huntsmen - a nice touch!
-
Finally got my transfers sorted. I'm pretty happy with them :)

Looking good! The colour scheme works better than I would have thought.
