The Thirty Years’ War (1618-48)

Lots more photos on the main website at http://www.victorian-steel.com/ in the gallery

The Thirty Years’ War (1618-48) began when Holy Roman Emperor Ferdinand II of Bohemia attempted to curtail the religious activities of his subjects, sparking rebellion among Protestants.

The war came to involve the major powers of Europe, with Sweden, France, Spain and Austria all waging campaigns primarily on German soil. Known in part for the atrocities committed by mercenary soldiers,

the war ended with a series of treaties that made up the Peace of Westphalia. The fallout reshaped the religious and political map of central Europe, setting the stage for the old centralized Roman Catholic empire to give way to a community of sovereign states.

Very nice and a period I'm also starting painting (more or less: slightly earlier Dutch Revolt, but with the same miniatures).

How did you paint the black curassier armour....highlighting with gray over black?

Thanks, I'm looking at different ways of painting the period armour and will also try this approach.

Wonderfully painted figures.  What sources did you use for the colors and flags?  Thanks.

Paper and map pens

That is nice. I used to have a 25mm TYW Imperial army back in the dim and distant. Maybe I ought to give it another go in 28mm. :)

Oh! Very, very nice. A favorite interest for me. I will be starting a few armies for HOTT of this genre/war, and this is good inspiration!!!

God they are good.  Well done, superb!  :-* :-* :-*. As usual, multiple sets of sub-standard rule sets (same with nearly every period in the last 10 years) ultimately kills it.  I've got thousands of figures for this, my favourite period, but they are orphaned waiting for 'that' set of rules.  Maybe I shall write some....

For King and Parliament (the ECW version of To The Strongest) should work fine for TYW
