Excellent! It's arrived! And I might actually be able to take part this year. Great bonus rounds as well - a nice focus to all three, but they are still open to (what I know will be) interesting interpretation. Time to get the brushes out!

Yes, we picked the themes for the bonus rounds this time to be suitably generic whether you're into historical, fantasy or sci-fi  :)

Excellent idea, Captain Blood. I think it's going to make for some fascinating bonus rounds, with a huge variety of miniatures.

That's of course great! But where is light, there's also shadow ... As Hawkeye mentioned, the bonus rounds are open for wide interpretations, for example:

Animals: apes are allowed, so are armed apes? Like in "Planet of the apes"? Or only unarmed animals? A "team" of 5 sheep with 5 handlers count for 15 extra points?

Anyway, a new league is coming and I'm very excited about all the fantastic entries showing up. And yes, as it looks now, I could participate ...  8)

I think I will be in again this year, try to improve on last year's standing. Hats off to the mods and organisers for doing this, it's a lot of work and they deserve credit for their efforts.

Excellent news Michael. I'm looking forward to seeing your creations already :)

As far as interpretations of 'animals' are concerned - well, apes are definitely animals, so they would be allowed, armed or not. (I must admit, I was thinking more of wild animals, farm animals, domestic animals and fantasy / sci-fi animal-like creatures. But interpretation of the theme is part of the fun, so I think it's okay to push the boundaries a little bit :))

If anyone is thinking of using particular figures or models for round 5, and is any doubt as to whether they will qualify for bonus points as 'animals', please pm me. I will consult with the Prof and we will agree a ruling.

Obviously the easiest thing though, is just to stick to animals which are very obviously animals :)

I think I will be in again this year, try to improve on last year's standing. Hats off to the mods and organisers for doing this, it's a lot of work and they deserve credit for their efforts.

Thanks Nord. It will be great to have you in the league again. (I'm imagining lots more troops for Lion Rampant ;))

This time round, I will be receiving the entries and organising and setting up the matches; the Prof will be managing the scoring and leaderboard. Hopefully, sharing the workload a bit, we'll both be able to take part too.

So if I do five Elephants do I have to do five Tarzans for the bonus?  ;)

Post by: Captain Blood on February 28, 2015, 09:20:47 PM
You're never going to let me forget that, are you?  ;)

Yes, you'd need 5 elephant drivers, herders, dung-collectors or zoo keepers for the extra bonus  :)

As long as they fit together plausibly, that's fine.

Looking forward to the new league - enjoyed last years immensely and my wife even approves

Re thinking some of my plans now know the bonus rounds - If I move female character from one grouping then what do I put with her and is there a big thing I can add

Great fun :)

I see that the bonus points for votes has not been altered, stil based on the absolute number of votes. Some thoughts that popped up at the closing of LPL8

Now the dust has settled, I crunched some numbers. For each participant I added up the votes for and against. If I'm not making a basic logical error, this should represent the possible votes the participant could have gotten. The
maximum values was 4900, the minimum 4343. This means the 'max' participant had a potential of 557 votes the 'min' participant didn't have. More than one round difference !

The average and median value were approx. the same (4675 and 4680) which indicates a fairly even distribution IIRC.

Though this wouldn't have changed top 3, since they tend to gather more votes anyway, but it might have caused some position shifts lower in the rankings.

Maybe think about a distributing points based on a percentage of votes for in stead of a absolute number of votes.
I'm not quite anal enough to produce an 'alternate' standing based on this years LPL, but it would be interesting to see the impact.

Yes, sure, like mentioned already I like the idea and I think we will see how it works in the next league.

I seem to have a tradition of participating in only odd-numbered LPLs (3rd, 5th & 7th so far!) so I guess that means I should get myself organized to participate in this one!

I like the themes, too, and can fit current projects into all three themes, with a slight stretch for "Animals". I really like the exclusion of horses from the Animal round, it'll make it a much more creative round that just a display of horseflesh!

Ah but Dylan, why would you paint mere human animals, when you could paint all that lovely African wildlife?  ;)  :D

I'm sorry, that had completely passed me by. From my point of view, the suggestion would involve extra work to calculate the % share (x 25 matches), when there is more than enough work involved in running the league already. But I'll see what the Prof thinks, since he will be handling the leaderboard calculations.

Good to hear from other would-be participants :)

Title: Re: LPL9 General discussion thread

Might have to give it a miss with other things going on. At least that opens up a spot for the bottom of the table!   lol

Would centaurs qualify for bonus points?

I'm afraid not. Sorry  :(

Animals need to be 100% animal. And horses are disqualified anyway, because the aim is to see some painted animals other than horses.

So half-human, half-horse would fail on both counts :)

The intent behind the theme was to encourage livestock, wildlife, domestic animals, dinosaurs and fantasy / sci-fi animals: wargs, giant bugs etc.
Obviously once you try to push at the interpretation of the theme, you hit some difficulty.
So I suppose anthropomorphic animals like Redwall-style armed mice would be allowable because mice are undeniably animals.
On the other hand, fantasy / sci-fi races like lizard-men, would not qualify because these are not really animals, but alien humanoids with animal-like characteristics.
It's tricky, but we have to draw the line somewhere.
Please check if in doubt.

As I say, the easiest thing would be to just paint some obvious animals :)

Interesting to see that it's the animal round which is causing the most interest. At least nobody's asked 'what qualifies as a woman?' yet  :D

Might have to give it a miss with other things going on. At least that opens up a spot for the bottom of the table!   lol

Ah, that's a shame Steve. You did pretty well last time IIRC :)

I think i was firmly mid table at the end. My poor photography let me down! I do really like the themes though as they encourage painting up existing figures rather than specifically buying new ones for the LPL. I have a dozen unpainted longhorn cattle that I need to paint plus some cowpokes. Hmmm, maybe LPL will be another painting kick up the backside. With the LPL and BLAM I painted more last year than in the past 5 combined.

Honestly, I completely forgot about it. Too busy at the moment with real life issues but a bit later, in a few weeks I will try to implement that in my mighty LPL-Excel-Spread-sheet-thing :) So If it is going to work then I actually wouldn't mind to try it out in this season.

No worries, didn't think they would, just checking. I have got a couple of other things in mind for the animals round. I do know what a woman is, it's just getting my hands on five of them that I am having difficulty with.  ;)

Sorry if I've missed this in the rules but would 2 miniatures on a single base (ie. Weapons teams) count as one or two miniatures for team size purposes?

Not sure if I'm gonna have three teams ready in time but if I do I'm going to give this a go.  :D

I think five would be too many to handle - I have enough trouble with one ;)

Two  :)
Miniatures or models can be singly or multiply based as you wished. As long as they are based and there are at least five individual minis or models in a team.

I really would like to take part this year, as I need something to break my painting drought, just need to get the three initial teams painted.
Not sure I have enough figures for the Armoured round and trying to avoid buying any more till end of March , but I am doing a quick paint job of some figures for a friend that will be suitable.
The other two theme rounds I am well sorted for, though the big thing may be a bit ambitious, we'll see how I go.
Got to get three teams painted before April first.

I was planning to ask about feminine robots, like Hydra's 'Mechanika'...

The good news is I won't have to buy anything for the LPL this year, the bad news is I have too many things to choose from even for the bonus rounds  o_o

Well the category is stated as 'female figures' so I guess if the robots are obviously female robot figures they would qualify.

I'm planning on getting involved.  Being an LPL noob (did thoroughly enjoy watching the action last year) I have a question.  I post WIP pictures on my blog once a week.  If I do not post any pictures of "completed" teams but have some pics posted of WIPs is that allowable, or are there no pics allowed whatsoever?
Title: Re: LPL9 General discussion thread
Post by: Captain Blood on March 06, 2015, 05:41:00 PM
Hi  :)

For 'new team' bonus points purposes, it's okay to post pics elsewhere of figures you intend to use in their raw, prepped, or early part-painted state. But well advanced, almost finished, or fully finished and based figures would have to count as 'previously published' if you'd shown them on your blog, and so wouldn't count as new.

Sorry to be pernickety, but the intent behind the league (apart from a bit of friendly competitive fun) is to encourage members to paint new figures, rather than showing already-painted stuff which might have been seen before. Unfortunately, this means you have to draw a line somewhere.

There's also the side issue of tacit (or explicit) drumming up support via blogs etc. Shocking I know, but it's been done before, along the lines of: 'Hey, here are some figures I'm painting for the Lead Painters League over on the Lead Adventure Forum... Why not pop over AND VOTE... '

Obviously not cricket :)

I'm in, hopefully.  Don't seem to have finished a project since last year's LPL so we'll see how it goes.  Round 1 bonus will be figures I probably wasn't going to be painting until much later in the year, but they'll do if I can find them.  Started work on round 2 figures.  Round 3 could be an extension of my Army Painters figures that didn't get done in December, January or last month.  The animals round looks like it could have some fun entries and as for the last round.....I'll have to have a think about that one.

Chances are, this year, I am out.  :'(

This has been the busiest several weeks of the school year, and it doesn't show any sign of letting up. I'm involved in too many clubs and other activities for me to see my time free up in the foreseeable future. That's a bummer because I've been in it for several years in a row, now.

That said, I will still enjoy seeing the Sunday morning parade of beautifully painted entries, again!

I love LPL season! This year I'm about ready to enter. I've been getting myself organized so it looks like I've got a good shot at entering. Might not make all the bonus round themes, but it'll be fun to be a part of things. (In the LPL spirit, I'm trying to use models that are already  waiting for paint rather than adding significantly to the lead pile in the garage...)

Captain, sorry to bother you but I need some clarification as I am very tempted to have another go this year:

1) would mules and donkeys count as horses or "other"?
2) in a previous post you mentioned "previously published" teams as allowable even if they will not receive the 10 points bonus - does that include also pictures of teams that were posted in a previous LPL? Sorry, just want to make sure I will be able to have 10 teams....

Thanks a lot !

Mules and donkeys are animals which are not horses, so would count for bonus points.

You can submit a team of previously published figures, but they will not be eligible for 'new' team bonus points.

Obviously, the LPL is designed to encourage new painting, hence the bonus points for newly painted teams.

It's over in the rules thread: lpl@leadadventureforum.com

Looking through my lead/plastic/resin mountain this weekend I realized I can do the entire LPL and meet all the theme rounds in proper LPL fashion, ie without buying a single new figure. In fact, most of what I need is already cleaned, based, primed, and tucked into my "to be painted someday" storage containers!

Yep, as long as you have a team of 5 non-horsey animals or creatures in there, you can include whatever else you like. And yes, the accompanying humans could be mounted on horses  :)
Title: Re: LPL9 General discussion thread
Post by: Captain Blood on March 21, 2015, 09:44:23 AM
Just a little reminder...  :)

You have just under a week until the league opens for submissions.

You can send in your first three teams to lpl@leadadventureforum.com from 19.00 GMT, next Friday 27th March.

Please bear in mind that is when the league OPENS FOR SUBMISSIONS - it is not the final deadline.

To judge from those who have so far declared their intention to take part, I don't think the league is going to be over-subscribed.
But you never know.
Participation is on a first come - first served basis. So although I doubt we will have more than 50 people wanting to take part, it would certainly do no harm to get your first three teams in as early as possible.

I should also point out that should we end up with an uneven number of participants, the last entrant to submit by the final deadline (12.00 GMT on Friday 10th April) will alas be the one who does not get to take part in the league (unless we can persuade another person to join in and make up the numbers).

Looking forward to it  :)

I shouldn't even be looking here, due to work; conversely, I should be looking here for the very same reason, in the interests of the preservation of some last vestiges of sanity.
And the stars may have aligned: armour? check; animals + handlers (not horses or antropomorphic types)? check. Models of the feminine persuasion? I was wondering how many of you can tell a male genestealer and a female genestealer apart, but then found some more easily distinguishable models, so that's another check. Vehicle/monster to accompany the ladies? Check - if I can find it, that is!

So I might just drag myself into this, if undercoating weather permits.

I'm considering entering if I can finish a few more bits before the first deadline

couple of questions though, for it to be considered a new team it has to be at least 5 new minis, but can I then add a few more old minis to have a better looking team and still be considered new as long as there's at least 5 new ones?
also a team consists of at least 5 guys with a similar theme from the same side, but I'm guessing it is allowed to set a scene using adversaries as long as the secene includes a complete theme? for instance 5 vampires versus 2 witchhunters
And in round 5 do both the animals and the humans have to be on the same side, would 5 hunters and 5 beast be allowed?

Yes.
To qualify for the 'newly painted' bonus, the 'new team' should be the focus of the picture, but yes, you can add in other figures for extra effect.

also a team consists of at least 5 guys with a similar theme from the same side, but I'm guessing it is allowed to set a scene using adversaries as long as the secene includes a complete theme? for instance 5 vampires versus 2 witchhunters

Correct. As long as 'the team' is formed by a cohesive set of figures you can include some enemies as set dressing or to help tell a story...

And in round 5 do both the animals and the humans have to be on the same side, would 5 hunters and 5 beast be allowed?

Same side. Paint a team of at least 5 animals AND 5 accompanying riders / handlers / herders / crew and get 15 extra theme bonus points.
(Accompanying, not opposing  :))

We are at 6 participants so far...  :)

And how long did people have time to send their first three entries? I am way too lazy at this time of the evening to find the answer myself  ::)

People had 4 weeks notice to the opening of submissions (today) and have another two weeks from today to get their first three entries in.
So 6 weeks in total.
Although obviously if the 50 available places fill up before 10th April, it will be too late.
But I would say that's not looking too likely as things stand.
If places suddeny start to fill up fast, I'll let you know  :)

actually nothing "special made" for the LPL this year. Just what I painted for gaming during the last weeks and the next time. However, I bought a new digicam the day before yesterday, hopefully not toooo cheap  o_o but so far so good. Pictures made and on the way.

Thanks again for organizing!

There's a trend to call these figures 'Women of... " rather than 'Venuses' going around in Art History and Archaeology circles.

I'm not taking a stand on that by the way ;)

This one from Kostenki is a little ominous, I interpret the lines as restraints:

Sorry for the digression, I can't help myself...

Back on topic I have 3 of 15 figures done more or less, so it will be a race to the deadline (as usual) for me.

It's a dilemma isn't it?
I always prefer figures on white because you can see them more clearly.
But LPL voters seem to prefer the storytelling of the scenic shot...  ::)

Do you think so? Seems like there's been plenty of cases where all things equal in terms of painting quality the votes went to the picture where the figures were up close on a plain backdrop.

I'll have to pay more attention this year :)

I have a few flappers I'd like to get done for the the women entry, but alas!, I can't see how I would have the time.

By the way, a Big Thing is supposed to be a based, moveable item, right? Not a piece of scenery?

Yes, the women can be crewing the big thing - providing the 'big thing' is an obvious fit with the theme / genre of the women depicted :)

By the way, a Big Thing is supposed to be a based, moveable item, right? Not a piece of scenery?

It's a fine line. It shouldn't really be a piece of out-and-out scenery like a hill or a house. (You can include these sorts of things by way of a backdrop of course, but the big thing should be a gaming item rather than 'scenery')
It could however be a relevant structure like a siege tower or a crane. It's difficult to be definitive about where to draw the line. If anyone is in any doubt, please check via PM and I'll let you know whether - in principle - your big thing qualifies for the extra bonus points.

I am ready to stake my claim for last place in the ranking: first 3 entries sent in.
Compared to some of the stuff seen in LPLs mine will be a bit like Plan 9 from Outer Space compared to Casablanca.... but my aim is to clear 50 models from my painting list in a reasonable amount of time :D

Yes it can.

A lot of the interest in the LPL comes from seeing newly painted or previosuly 'unpublished' figures or models.
That's why the 'new' bonus points are there. To motivate people to paint new figures, and to submit different teams in as many rounds as possible.

But of course, from time to time, people run out of time or real life gets in the way. Then people have to use figures they've already shown online or in print before, or run with an entry for more than one round. That's okay. Needs must.

Thanks for the info...yeah thats what i thought about..... its not that im not motivated to do more stuff
but i cant tell if RL will keep me buisy or not....so its nice to know that i can enter teams consisting of some of my other miniatures if i need to :)
Its even better because i really dont want to enter the same team twice if i have no time to produce new stuff :)

Would a Krampus with 4 children count as a team ? because basically the miniatures belong together

The 5 models or figures making up a team have to be 'on the same side'.

So, if, as I understand it, the Krampus is a sort of demon who punishes naughty children, then they are not really on the same side...

If the children are his assistants / helpers, or if there are 5 children making the team, plus the Krampus as an extra character, that would be okay.

YOU ONLY HAVE TWO DAYS LEFT.

May I also remind you that in the event that we end up with an uneven number of participants when the lists close, then either:

- We find a last-minute addition to even up the numbers, or
- The person who's entry was the last received, will sadly have to sit this one out.

Let's hope it doesn't come to that. Fingers crossed for an even number of participants.

Various disruptions in the last few weeks have completely murdered my painting/creative energy, and while those should be coming to an end fairly soon I'm going to have to break my every-odd-numbered-LPL streak and sit this one out.

19 places remaining

Today's the day!
If you want to take part, please make sure you email in your first three teams by this evening (19.00 GMT).
(Actually the rules stated by 12.00 GMT today, but I will hold it open for the extra few hours in case of any last minute entrants...  :))

Do you usually have 50 people in this?!

EDIT: Ah, to answer my own question I can see that 30-40 is the norm while season 5 is an outlier with 72 entrants.   :)

Well, keep at it  :)

At the moment - assuming you get your entry in, in time - you are the last odd-numbered participant (currently #33). So let's hope there's someone else out there rushing to meet the deadline. Because we do need an even number of competitors...

Post by: Captain Blood on April 10, 2015, 07:55:12 PM
I'm afraid there was no 34th player, so we have to go with the first 32 registered within the deadline. Sorry.

The league matches will start on Sunday morning (European time).

I won't ruin the suspense by saying who has submitted teams. But there are certainly a few well-known LPL luminaries in the hunt. But also several missing in action. Should make it interesting...  :)

Congratulations to all entrants on a very high standard for the first round.

But could I please make a general request for future rounds?  Please everyone, show us the actual figures close-up, not a diorama with overwhelming terrain pieces and a few swamped figures in there somewhere.  There might be some great brushwork going on, but if I can't see it, I won't be voting for it.

Though I understand the wanting, I do not mind terrain - though I am not using terrain this time. And it doesn't distract me from voting for the miniatures. At least I like to believe that. ;)

Say, folkes, I am missing Calimero's entries* - among others, actually. Any reasons known?

out of curiosity I did some calculating ...we have votings in all matches in summery from 427 to 520, which is a difference of nearly 100 votings, means users.
Did we ever discussed the possible reasons? Is it for not wanting to decide a given entry due to ties or losing survey? What do you think?

Title: Re: LPL9 General discussion thread ROUND ONE IS UNDERWAY!

It happens every time. Some people just forget to vote on every match. Some people choose not to. The most competitive matches between the most accomplished painters tend to attract the most voters.
Title: Re: LPL9 General discussion thread ROUND ONE IS UNDERWAY!
Post by: Hammers on April 16, 2015, 06:35:21 AM
People have sometimes thought, occasionally triggered by hurt feelings, that you are obliged to vote on all entries, either by rule or by good sportsmanship. That is not the case, you can vote on none or all or anything in between.
Title: Re: LPL9 General discussion thread ROUND ONE IS UNDERWAY!
Post by: Dr Mathias on April 16, 2015, 01:42:20 PM
I usually look through them all before I start voting, and when I go back a second time I do sometimes miss a match or two. Not intentional. It doesn't explain a 100 vote discrepancy though ;)
Title: Re: LPL9 General discussion thread ROUND ONE IS UNDERWAY!
Post by: Drachenklinge on April 16, 2015, 05:02:23 PM
Hm, I usually pay attention to really see all matches at least out of curiosity for the entries and voting while lingering there seem to be easy ... maybe just for me. Not saying that deciding is easy ... just voting. ;)

thanks for the views

With so many pics out of focus in the first two rounds I think it's time to once again recommend reading the "Thoughts on how to succeed in the LPL..." by Captain Blood:

http://leadadventureforum.com/index.php?topic=29564.0 (http://leadadventureforum.com/index.php?topic=29564.0)

And there are lots of easy photo tutorials on the net:

https://www.google.de/search?q=photograph+miniatures&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8&gws_rd=cr&ei=MsAzVaqBOILUao63gLgI (https://www.google.de/search?q=photograph+miniatures&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8&gws_rd=cr&ei=MsAzVaqBOILUao63gLgI)

You invest so much time painting your miniatures, why not investing some minutes to get the most out of them in your pics? I for my part will not vote at all if pics are out of focus or the figures are so far away you won't see anything ...

 :)

Yes, rightly or wrongly, the LPL is about being able to take a good, clear picture, as well as painting your figures nicely :)

Now that round 1 is done and dusted and round 2 is underway, may I take this opportunity to remind all contestants that you need to submit entries for round 4 by 12.00 GMT on  - Friday 1st May.
Which is not that far away :)

Remember, if you do not submit a new team for any given round, your preceding team will automatically carry forward to the subsequent round - unless you specify otherwise.

I was just considering this as I noticed the large number of duplicate entries from last week. Is there some sort of penalty for this? Shouldn't there be? If not, what would prevent someone from painting up one really kick-ass entry and winning the whole thing with that same entry week after week.

I'm not really complaining, really. I just have this need to be constantly entertained with new things.

Thanks.

As this is round three, and everybody had to deliver three different entries from the start, there couldn't be any "duplicate entries from last week". Are there any?

To answer your main question: there is no penalty for entering with the same pic every week. But experience has shown that the voting public here is very used to get something new from everybody week after week. You could probably win two, if you're very lucky three times with the same very good entry, but that's it.

in addition even superb painters will need to catch up the "new team" and "special-round" boni. Imho with only one team and looking at all the top noth painter in here again, this guy or lady almost certainly c/would not win.

However, there are a few entries I'd choose for trying.  :o

Here we go with round #3! I've already matched my win total for last season, so I got that going for me.

Still, it looks like it is gonna be a tough round for me... I wish my photo was better, but I am happy with the paint job.

I've got my round 4 and round 6 entries in. Still working on Round 5. Round 7 is pretty much painted, but not photographed.

Hello,

ROUND 4 DEADLINE

Just to remind participants that you have just over 24 hours to submit round 4 entries.
So far I have 20 round 4 entries, which means 12 people haven't yet submitted a replacement team for round 4.
If you don't submit a round 4 team, your round 3 team will carry forward to round 4.

I am away at a wedding this weekend, so need to prepare the matches by tomorrow night (so all I have to do is press a button to send them live on Sunday).
So please get your entries in on time. Thanks :)

BAD NEWS - LT HAZEL

Jan (the excellent Lt Hazel) has unfortunately broken a finger in an accident and won't be painting for the forseeable future  :(
We've agreed that he will submit new pics of previously painted teams used in previous LPLs or shown elsewhere. Obviously he won't be getting any more new team bonus points, but at least it keeps him in the league, which I'm sure we'd all agree is a good thing, given his beautiful painting. I think most people won't have seen most of his stuff before, so it will appear fresh to most voters anyway... But just in case you think you might have seen a particular group of Jan's figures before - well, you might have  :)
Hope the finger mends soon Jan.

Worst round ever, scheduling-wise. lol

After submitting round 1-3 entries I spent two weeks in Far East, then barely managed to finish round 4 while recovering from jet lag and general fatigue. With no buffer whatsover remaining, I started building some of this week's double team last weekend while catching up with the rest of life.

And now I'm on a train again, missing this weekend and probably next one too. Fortunately, all remaining entries should be undercoated so no more hassle with that unless I start building epic backdrops again...

If I can do it, you can too. :)

Hopefully I managed to squeeze my entry in just in time.  Been away with work this week and have had very intermittent internet (none at all yesterday) and very poor light when I tried to get pictures done, so had to take them indoors using a horrible yellowy ceiling light, a torch and my phone's torch to light the picture and a piece of cardboard and a magnolia wall as the background.

At least I'll get theme bonuses, so all's not lost I s'pose.

It's a man's game, painting miniatures. We are lucky we have not left more casualties behind  us. All the best, Jan!

Thanks Matt. I'm sure you'll think of something...  :)

Still missing a few replacement teams for the next round.
Just to remind you, if I don't get a round 6 team from you in the next few hours, your round 5 entry will carry forward.
Thanks  :)

Round 6 and 7 entries in.  Round 8 is just about complete too, so that gives me 3 weeks to paint round 9.  Just bought a new house and am spending most non-working hours decorating and trying to rescue the garden....no internet yet, so relying on mobile phone coverage to send and receive emails.

I know pretty well what to do when it comes to minis...although especially in the backdrop department I've made some silly mistakes, costing me a few odd evenings of semi-wasted work here and there. They could be avoided by proper planning, but that in turn would require a free day or two. LPLSNAFU. lol

Don't worry too much John. As soon as you can. I won't set up the matches until tomorrow, ready for Sunday...

There are, I must say, a couple of absolutely stunning entries in for this round  :)

This is an ambivalent statement. The competitors wouldn´t all be glad to learn about, but the spectators will of course, I guess...

Yes, it's a marathon not a sprint...  ::)

Alas, I've just received sad news via intermediaries that Bugsda is now without internet for the forseeable future, so I don't think we'll be seeing any new entries from him either. Shame, because I saw him at Salute and liked the sound of what he had lined up for round 10. But c'est la vie... It's a long old campaign in the LPL, and real life has a nasty tendency of getting in the way of the best-laid plans...

But I'm sure the last couple of rounds will see some spectacular charges to the finish line  :)

The last entry has been sent. In characteristic madness I decided to start a completely atrocious quality resin model two days before the deadline and managed to squeak it in  o_o

Well done participants- another LPL is nearing its end :)

Thanks very much all.

And I'm done.
Phew, the last two weeks, delayed by a trip to Nottingham and catching up at work, were tight.

I managed to assemble and paint a total of 56 models, if I counted correctly, including one which I never included in the photos as it would have probably resulted in a partly defocused images, as in some of my earlier rounds. Getting stuff painted was my aim, so I am happy to have managed all weekly entries.

Once again thanks to Captain Blood for all the work needed toorganise this.  8) 8) 8)

There's no doubt, that despite all the hard work, the LPL is a great way to force yourself to paint 50 - 60 new figures in a three month period :)
It's certainly helped me break the back of my cave wars project.

Blimey - crap day at work... which lasted 3 hours longer than expected, then stuck behind grockels on the way home (40 min journey has taken almost 2 hours)......but can now submit the photo for the final round.

Thank you for running it all Richard and for being flexible with the timings  :D

Yeah, I'd just like to agree with the Colonel, thanks! Thanks to everyone who entered and spent time/money/effort to treat us all to some great eye candy over the last ten weeks! I'd love to see everyone's collections together to see what you've achieved in that time!

Again thanks from Joe Public Viewer!

It has been a joy each week to log on and see the entries pitted against each other. I think the standard has given plenty of head scratching deliberations this year with many, many close calls. Thank you to all who who have invested their time and effort painting and thanks also to the "background team" for keeping everything running smoothly.

It has been fun doing LPL again. Thanks to all the organizers for their work.

Good- Got a lot of figures painted that i have had laying around for a long while.
Bad-   The standard of entries is getting so high that i am (rightly and fairly) losing more often ;) :D

This year has been really impressive. I have had a really hard time deciding on many of the choices in all of the rounds. There were many that I think should have been a little closer in the voting. Thanks for all of the entries. I have enjoyed them all. :o

Thanks a lot and all hats off to Captain Blood and all the participants of LPL9!
It was a fabulous competition, lots of great eye-candy and smoothly run, at least from the viewpoint of mere voter. I tried to honour all your efforts by casting a vote on every entry – which caused me quite a headache on various occasions and required some very hard decisions. Hopefully everyone who entered the initial three teams feels like a winner, whereever you end up on the leaderboard.

Well done gents, another excellent LPL

For the first time in a few years I've only made a handful of comments as the matches have been posted, not because I have been stunned into silence by the quality of the entries on multiple occasions  :-*  (as I have been) but because of a number of burdensome external events and time constrictions I have been under. I suspect I am not alone in this among the non entrants

I hope my lack of comments or positive feedback is not taken as a lack of enthusiasm or appreciation on my part as I have been following this competition avidly - so  thank you all for your hard work that has not only kept me entertained but has raised my spirits as it does each year
