I really need this book! I got my Empress Republicans yesterday, most of them are ready to prime if the weather is nice tomorrow.

...and I'm particarlarly pleased my Carlist, Falange and Militia odds and sods are still waiting to be done...this should provide superb inspiration and instruction....
...so when do we see it?

-
Oh crap!!!! :o
:-*
-
I have fliurted with the SCW in the past, this could just tip me over the edge.
-
I will endeavour to discover a release date for it, but I get the impression its going to be out for Salute :D
-
I really like the Painting War guides and I guess I'll like this one even more!
-
Damn!! Where do i sign?
-
Hi
Any update on this ?
Is the big day at Salute?
If not where will I get this ?
Cheers
David
-
You might have to wait for this one as Northstar are advertising the new Painting War Volume as Japan v the US in WW2
http://www.northstarfigures.com/list.php?man=164&page=1
-
Yes, the PW on the Pacific was publicised for a couple of months before release and the English version has only just gone on sale. Nothing yet on the site for the SCW edition, so expect to wait a while.
:(
-
Next release apparently :D
Look like it will be a summer release around June/July time.
In the meantime, this looks well worth a purchase
an often forgotten theatre in the SCW
http://www.despertaferro-ediciones.com/contemporanea/numero-actual/
Different forces in action, and you get to chuck your Carlist and CTV forces onto the board.
I'm aiming to get forces ready for a demo game to do the circuit next year :D
-
Indeed an interesting campaign... Polish gun-armed Renault FT tanks, various odd home-made designs and it is also where the obsolete pre-war aircraft went to die, once numbers of German/Italian/Russian ones appeared on the Central Front. Of course it also has Asturian dinamiteros in spades.
;)
-
Thanks Durutti
I ordered the two on the Spanish civil war.
Plus my brother pick up two Spanish buildings off Empress miniatures at Satute for me :D
Cheers
David
-
The latest Painting War comes with two free figures - will we see any freebies with the SCW edition?

I bought the Viscaya edition last weekend. I am quite impressed, a lot of info if you can read Spanish, a lot of diagrams and pictures if you can't. I will be getting the ones on the Ebro and Madrid. There's also one coming up on the Alhucemas Landing if you're into the Rif War.
-
I ordered the Vizcaya and Madrid ones last week. Missed the Ebro one though :/
I hope to use Asturias as a setting for my SCW, as paraiso natural it's green and mountainous, don't know yet how to depict that all on table top though :D
-
The Ebro one is under 'special editions'... 20 pages more, slightly higher price.
-
Alhucemas Landing in the Rif War, I read it was more of a news paper pr display, than a fight your way off the Beaches
But if it has some good Colour pictures, then I will pick it up.
Most of the pictures I have are from the 1920's mags, plus 90% of the books written in English.
-
Well it was more like Anzio than Normandy, but defence was stiff enough to force the battleship Alfonso XIII to move out of range. The major fighting took place some days later when the Riffis counter-attacked the beach head and in the Spanish assault on Mount Malmusi a short time after.
-
I cannot see the Madrid one????

For those in the know, is it possible to pre-order the SCW Painting War issue so that I won't miss it by any chance?
-
'Those'? AFAIK there is only Durutti who knows of it... personally I think he's making it up to tease us. ;)
-
I wish I could tell you more
Its not all in my head, honestly lol

This chap has something to do with it all :D
and this is the company who will publish it

-
When? Where?
Yeah, what is this? A video (showing my age! ;)), a book, a magazine?
-
Will this be out for Claymore or will it be Warfare or Christmas this year ?
-
Yeah, what is this? A video (showing my age! ;)), a book, a magazine?
An occasional magazine. It is produced here in Spain (here in Málaga in fact ;) ) by the same people who produce the Spanish wargaming magazine 'Breaking War (http://www.breakingwar.com/)' and can be found on the same web page.
Will this be out for Claymore or will it be Warfare or Christmas this year ?
It will be ready 'mañana'. ::) I was hoping it would be next after the Pacific WWII one, but the British Napoleonic one has appeared instead.
-
I keep seeing teaser pics on FB

Damn its a "must buy" I wish thy would announce a release date >:(

Very inspirational photos, if I didn't know better I would say those Minairons 20mm Milicianas were actually 28mm!
-
Very inspirational photos, if I didn't know better I would say those Minairons 20mm Milicianas were actually 28mm!
Probably why I keep pestering Lluis to actually do them in 28mm...all of them, not just the Milicianas
And judging by the comments on this forum I'm definitely not the only one.
-
No you're not... particularly as the Empress range has 'stalled' and that Luís is a SCW fanatic. I suppose it really comes down to how comfortable the sculptor is with working in a different scale. Excellence in 20mm does not always translate to the same in 28mm and vice versa.
-
would love to see them in 28mm, and if Minarions continues to release such great figures in 20mm, and Empress stay quiet, then I may just switch my allegiance to 20mm :)
-
I never thought I'd hear you of all people say that. :o
However I'm feeling very much the same way myself. Thankfully my investment in 28mm (outside of 'adventure games') has not been at a level where it would cause me any heartbreak.
-
My 28mm collection is fairly extensive, and TBH did'nt cost me too much lol
The Minions stuff has got me thinking though, plus there are lots of nice useable kits in 1/72nd that can be pressed into use, I am wavering and if more sets appear, I may invest in a set or two.
I'm watching, and waiting, I did hear something a while back that Empress were going to add to their range, but it never materialised, and since then they have added to other ranges, and added new ranges, so I'm guessing that the rumour was nothig more than, just a rumour. Perhaps the SCW does not sell so well.
I did ask Paul if he wanted to sculpt some stuff for me again, but he is so stacked up with work, he had to say sadly not this time.
I am toying with the idea of doing a bit of converting, and sculpting to get my own figures, have already scratched myself some guns (Maxim-Tokarev being one) and have a few butchered minis lying about, awaiting a transplant or two ;D
-
I must say that I was impressed by the 20 mm range an especially the females. My collection of 15mm SCW went to a good home, but seeing the 20 mm with a score of vehicles etc has sparked my interest.
Good cheer my friends,
Helen

Back in my youth 20mm was 'it' for WWII and I do find 28mm somewhat 'cramped' for even platoon games... even with a modified ground scale of 1"= 3 yards/metres (which would be almost right for 15mm).
When you look at Minairons' range, which expands at a fairly regular pace, Paul Hick's start on Empress's 20mm WWII range, some of Tony Bousted's figures (some look 'small head-big ass' to be honest though) and of course Tony Barton's sculpts, you can see 20mm has upped its game in recent years.
To be honest I'm not sufficiently good at painting to do 28mm figures justice, in the same way as some people only have a face fit for radio... maybe 20mm might be more forgiving for my 'style'.
lol

You can still use a paint roller on 20mm. :-)

My secret is out. :(
I do use a cut-down emulsion brush for the eyes though, I am getting better. :D

I'm a reluctant painter to be honest, I'm all for the research and the playing, it's just the bit in the middle I struggle with. I didn't do much before I came here and my figures and paints are in the UK. I actually do get a fair bit of time, especially in the Summer, but with a temp between 35-40° in the day and 25-30° at night I'm not sure how that would effect things.
Add in that I'm uncertain where I'm going to be established permanently and the need to travel light if/when I do move, I've got a good set of excuses why not to paint. It's something I hope to change though and there are a few ranges I'm actually dying to have a go at... I've been contemplating getting a 'travelling paint set' together for when things cool down. Certainly getting hold of figures is not difficult, I'm blessed with two FLGS roughly equidistant from here (e-minis in La Línea and Málaga), who stock pretty much everything I might want.

Thanks Jim. Completely understand and I know you will at some point get to exercise your artistic side. Bye the bye I found the Painting War books quite handy to use as a guide. I usually blend my colours more so than what they generally do within their books.
I'm certainly looking forward to this publication.

You're welcome! I've seen some of the other editions and the standard of painting is unbelievable... You could not have an interest in SCW figures and gaming, and not buy it surely?
:)

You bet!

I have a small (1.4L) Really Useful Box that holds 28 Vallejo Model Colours, a small pallet and brushes plus a few work in progress figures. It had traveled quite a bit with me, including a holiday in Spain where I did some painting on the hotel balcony - the only problem was that the paint on the palette did dry out quite quickly in the sun.
-
I knew you were hardcore Scrivs, but that does go above and beyond. ;)
However I do wonder how many paints you actually need? 28 seems quite reasonable, but I recall that there's at least one person out there who makes do with just the four primary colours, plus black and white.
I've met one local-ish wargamer, so I'll have to tap him for tips for painting during a Costa del Sol Summer. :)
-
There is quite a thriving wargames club in Gibraltar, if you are down La Linea way, they meet at King's Bastion leisure centre.
I am moving to Gib in 18 months, maybe we will get a game in if you are still there, my 20mm SCW are coming with me!
-
King's Bastion - now there's a place, I was really impressed with what they've done there. If there was a club in Gib, it really could be based nowhere else.
Currently getting to La Línea is not a problem... but the future? However as thing's stand, you're on! :)
-
Hi,
I'm Rubén Torregrosa, the painter of this SCW book :). I'm so glad to see that you like those teasers :)
I would like to clarify a couple of points :D
The 20mm militiawomen are indeed from Minairons, while all the other minatures are basically from Empress (28mm). In the book you could find a painting guide showing how to paint small miniatures: in the WWII German was a 15mm miniature from Battlefront, while a 20mm miniature from Minairons is used this time.
About the releasing date of PW:SCW, I don't know :( . The painting work was done several months ago, and now only the layout is needed. I would like to think that it will be ready before Christmas! but let see :)

Terrific work! :-*
-
I love your painting skills especially the flesh tones.
-
:o :-*....truly excellent work and promises to be a an outstanding book..this Christmas or next I will be buying a copy...just superb

Is there any way to pre order this book?
Cheers

Lady and Gents, the Spanish edition of Painting War No.5 'SCW' is up for pre-order:
http://www.breakingwar.com/store/en/4-paintingwar
"Painting War # 05 with Heresy Brush, showing his painting techniques and tips for over 30 miniatures painted on both sides".
If memory serves me well, the English edition usually follows a month or so behind, so it's worth keeping an eye on the site from time to time.
¡Felicitaciones Rubén!
-
Great news. Really looking forward to the English edition.
-
¡Felicitaciones Rubén!
Thanks Arlequín! :)
Yeah, I think that the English pre-order will be ready in one month! :)
-
Is it a month yet...
Is it a month yet...
-
lol It's a bit like that. I'm worried I'll crack and buy the Spanish edition if it's out next time I'm in Málaga. Spanish isn't a problem, but I'll get funny looks on the bus reading it out loud word by word.

Hi,
Finally! The pre-order of the English version is here:
http://www.breakingwar.com/store/es/pre-order/224-paintingwar-n-01.html
And remember, you can get for free a 28mm miniature with the pre-order: a Pilot!

So I tried ordering and kept getting a paypal payment error message from your end. Any thoughts? It was a large block of pink angry text.
FYI any Canadians, it's $43 with the shipping :o
The message
Please try to contact the merchant:
PayPal response:

L_SEVERITYCODE0 -> Error
Everything at my end is complete, my paypal is fine. Something on your end ...
-
Can't send a contact form either.
Looks like the website is not done properly.
Forget it. I don't need or want the pilot either (I'm all about 20mm SCW). Too much work, it's obscenely expensive, and now I'm just angry!

Have you tried just e-mailing direct at: admon@breakingwar.com ?
They may have stockists somewhat closer and of course are the best people to address problems with their website too. :)

Yeah, did email. No response yet (still early, sure).
Still want the book. Don't need or want the pilot.
Aaaaaargh! :)
-
It shouldn't be this hard. Six tries now, all errors with the website. Can you contact them??!
-
Success.
I bypassed PayPal and used a credit card instead. Not clean, not easy, but done.
I'll be selling the pilot...
-
Can you contact them??!
You'd probably have ended up with the one on Napoleonic British with my Spanish. lol
But all's well that ends well. :)
-
FYI
I ordered my copy just now using PayPal. No problems...seems to be working OK.

Not so bad. I have an old CS Forrester Death to the French book that would be inspiring :D
All is well. Might also be mobile / I did this on my iPhone.
Cheers and thanks.
Hulk NOT smash!
-
When is this actually coming out?
I've sent emails to them but zero response.
-
Hi,
I think they are sending it to print in 1-2 weeks :)
-
had to cancel my order. :(
-
So we won't see it till the new year :(
-
All sorted.
-
I pre-ordered, went to the site, clicked on the flag at the top to get the English version, added the book to my basket, and made myself an account, filled in all my address details, and paid via the checkout, using Paypal, no issues at all, and have my confirmation e-mail, with my order number.
Maybe its just bad luck Grant, but the site seems to work OK :)
Hope you get it sorted out.
-
Its on its way :D
Don't know how long it will take from Spain ?
-
My copy arrived today and its excellent, well worth the wait. Although I have strayed away from the interwar period in recent years but this still looks as if it would be an excellent introduction to general painting.
Regards
James
-
My wife had hope to give it to me for my birthday on Saturday, but it only arrived yesterday. Had a look through and it looks very good.
-
Yes
My copy came today.
what I have read so far look good
only problem is the errors
eg spaces between words , fry ? = Dry, pain = paint and maximum highlight ? = Final highlight.
picture and layout is great
