Evening all,
My club have been working on a SCW project in 28mm to play Chain of Command. I've just finished my first section, for which I went for something slightly different: the Carabineros or frontier guards. I've not seen any painted in 28mm before.

That officer is WOW.
Really love his uniform.
The rest of the figures, great also.
But really love the officer.
-
Excellent work and indeed I do not recall ever seeing any painted before. :)
-
Like those a lot, nice to see something a bit different :)
-
Wow! Really nice. It's a great uniform, I have a platoon of them in 15mm but I've not done any in 28mm yet. Inspiring stuff.

Thanks Arlequin. Your blog was a vital source of information and inspiration, many thanks!
-
Gorgeous work :)
-
beautiful brushwork
-
Smashing work. I hope you enjoy Chain of Command SCW as much as we do.
-
Dog's!
So great!!! :-* :-* :-*
-
Thanks for the kind words all, glad you liked these chaps as something a little different for the SCW. Let's hope they acquit themselves well on the tabletop.
-
"Let's hope they acquit themselves well on the tabletop."
Taken as Command Dice 6, Regular they should do quite well. They are Aggressive as well giving them a good deal of go forward. Note the Aggressive rules is different in CoC-Espana as we felt Aggressive troops are best represented with an ability to lift of shock more effectively than non-agro types.
The Tear Gas is very useful if you can get them close enough and get a run of command dice to take full advantage..ie pop smoke and then in the next phase move into assault if you've been able to load your target up with shock. it is unique to the Guardia de Asalto, Guardia Civil & Carabineros list and is one of the 'cute' things they have above all others.
With Aggressive troops and command dice 6 I'd keep them mobile and would be a little less reluctant to take more static levels of support. A Hispano-Suiza MC36 (MG) would make for a hard hitting and somewhat mobile force and look damn sweet using the Minairons model.
...please post pics if you get these troops on table!
The Assaltos are one of my favourite force in the SCW and look damn good on-table...

I've started refreshing my Spanish terrain for this project. First up were some vineyards:

On my blog once again

Absolutely Gorgeous, these are an inspiration. :)

Thanks for the comments all. A couple more finished - starting on the Carlist Requetes
(https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-ncXAVjt4uFg/VS1PMHz493I/AAAAAAAAEig/jyRWkwzEHrk/s400/image.jpg)
I'm stumped for a Vallejo colours to do the beige shirts of the rest of my Requetes and green/khaki of the Nationalist infantry - does the wisdom of the forum have any suggestions? For the green tunic of the officer I used 70.882 US Uniform recommended from the painting guide on http://www.minairons.eu/en/ (http://www.minairons.eu/en/), but it doesn't seem right compared to descriptions, plates and others' work.
More photos and ruminations on my blog.

-
To get the Uniform colour, I use a mix of vallejo Brown Violet 887 and Khaki 988, or Khaki Grey 880,or Green Brown 879 add a bit of Olive Green if you think its too brown. I find you get a good mix of dirty shades using the Brown Violet as a base, and adding the drabs to it.
-
Those are just plain great! :-*
-
OOOHHHH, OOOOHHHH, OOOOHHH I love them :-*
Paul
-
I really like your clean cut style of painting, more please. :-*
-
Excellent brushwork...a real "oh wow !" moment when I saw these - look forward to seeing more
-
Excellent work!! :) ;)
-
Absolutely stunning!
-
Oh my, 4 months have passed, but I'm pleased to report that I've finished some more Requetes!

Ah I forgot to update the thread. A few more minis that I painted over the summer:
Army LMG team
(https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-w3QF2-tU-WA/VjZi_g0nvOI/AAAAAAAAE8g/2-u1jV-Mxz8/s640-Ic42/image.jpeg)
And a handful more Requetes
(https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-1HYvd-u3WW8/VjZjCAOtfxI/AAAAAAAAE88/8Tbc0hBISpQ/s640-Ic42/image.jpeg)
I added the streamers as the religious icon seemed a bit bare but I didn't want to go the whole hog and add a flag.

Hope y'all like them. I've more Army troops and a Bilbao armoured car on the painting table at the moment.
-
Lovely crisp brushwork, excellent.
-
Lovely :-*
-
Lovely work. Do you plan to get any games in with them?
-
great brushwork, and a nice mix of civilian clothing in with the uniforms.
-
Lovely work :o :o I like so much the Carlista's banner!
-
Stunning work!

Absolutely! We got a game of Chain of Command the other month, and are planning a big game next month:

You even managed to photograph some of my figures at Partizan.

Fantastic Work!!!! :o I'm thinking seriusly start a project in Spanish Civil War!!!

Again, some months between updates. At the moment, support weapons are the focus:
A few more bits finished in recent months for this project.
Army Hotchkiss team
(https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-H3MHRRWApCY/Vpk2Z81ffrI/AAAAAAAAFGk/jizYGd3Ywts/s400-Ic42/image.jpeg)
The Requetes get some light support
(https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-dJ3mqEOvAQE/Vpk2HmovMsI/AAAAAAAAFGU/xRTSfeyDtBw/s400-Ic42/image.jpeg)
And some Nationalist officers, including a portly gentleman from the Condor Legion.
More Army infantry on the table, then the rest of the Requetes. But over a year I've painted 2/3rds of a project - very focused for me!
-
More lovely work!
-
Brilliant!
-
I lurk a lot more than I post, so haven’t updated this thread for ages. I’ve been working on this project again recently, in good time to put some games on next year.
Recently finished the Carabineros’ armoured support, a Bilbao armoured car. Second time painting it as the first attempt came out as a right dog’s dinner. Need more practice at armour.
-
Nice!
-
Fantastic work mate! Glad to see this thread be updated, even if it is more than 3 years on.
Can't wait to see more figures out of you; they're some of the best SCW paintjobs I've seen.
-
Top work!
-
Excellent work throughout the thread! 8)

More from 2019 and before, bulking out my Nationalist infantry and support weapons: sniper and Schneider 70/16 mountain gun
-
On my hols so I dug back over photos between 2016 and 2019 posts: Carlist militiamen and support, and a mounted Carabinero conversion. Probably painted 2017, I’ve been on and off this project awhile!
As my most consistent project over 6? Years, I think I’ve finished:
20 Carabineros with support
25 Requetes with support
20 Nationalist Infantry with support
15 Internationals Brigades
Handful of militia
I should do some group shots, all these odds, sods and trios add up over the years.
-
Wow, great all around.
-
brilliant work
-
Wonderful!
-
Thanks for the kind comments all. More progress this week: International Brigades LMG team and finally got around around to doing a couple of flags from Flags of War. Republican forces looking a little more colourful now.
-
Phyllion, excellent work on all the SCW figures you’ve done over the years.
Good colours and clean painting very nice, but to be able to paint half as well as that!
Champion work!
-
I‘m a little late to the show, but that's some more fantastic looking stuff my friend! Love it!
-
Lovely figures, full of character, and your painting style does them full justice. The SCW looks ideal for the Chain of Command rules.
-
Now about to start collecting some of the lovely Empress minis and just wanted to say yours are fantastic, a great inspiration.
Will be coming back here regularly to get more ideas and advice!
-
Superb painting! :o
I still haven't finished to paint mine... :'(
-
Thanks for the kind comments all. Still working on rounding out the Republican forces.

They’re a pleasure to collect, the variety and colour in SCW makes for a nice change from other 20thC conflicts.
-
Nice!
-
:-* Gorgeos as ever Phil!
-
Good looking crew of figs.
-
Finished a bunch more Republicans in the first quarter, including at last some T-26s (my first stab at using posh enamel washes too!). Then had much of the collection on the table to host a game of Chain of Command:Espana at a Lardy games day.
Next, a break from SCW..
...after buying some Legionaries to tide me over lol
-
:o Very cool!
Are the Tanks Empress? Or some other maker?

Very nice paint jobs. Keep it up.
-
Been a few months since my last update, bit progress: the might of the Nationalist armoured support lol, finishing off the IB I had primed and starting on some militia.
Now time for a hiatus, for sure.
-
Lovely work! I'm always excited when I see this thread has been updated :D
Old mate 'CNT' always gives me a double take when I see it. Being an Australian I'm used to a particular four letter word being thrown around, and I never expect to see it on miniatures or in the source photo. Maybe it says something about my upbringing that I automatically assume it's a word rather than an initialisation ;)
-
The tank is a blast. Outstanding !!

I thought the same thing and I'm Canadian. But then I do hang out with entirely too many Aussies, and use an unhealthy amount of the lingo now myself...
-
Superb. Congratulations ...it reminds me that I still have a lot of SCW figures to finish to paint... some day... one of all these projects still not ready to play ... :'(

::) Being a French native speaker I don't ever notice it. But I can sympathize: every time I see in an English-language forum a gaming convention mentioned as "CON" I feel the same thing at first glance. lol

Oh don’t worry, I have about the same as much bare lead as I have painted. And this is a project I’ve done well to work through lol

Ah you’re too kind. I often forget to put them here.
Double take for us all here, but gotta go with the source material:

Excellente :-*

I'm bilingual so things get mashed together in funny cross-language puns ways sometimes. For instance, I refer to salted butter as "dirty butter" because "Beurre salé". ;D

Nice work 8)

Lovely work Phyllion! I'm highly tempted by this period. My painting isn't up to your standards but those Empress figures are very nice.

It’s a great range, and a colourful period which is nice on the painting eyes.
-
As is tradition, the winter Analogue Hobbies Painting Challenge had me adding to this project with a Tizano improvised armoured truck, mighty Renault FT and squad of Guardia Civil
-
As always, great work.
-
Very cool.

Beautiful new additions! :-*

Very nice again!

Only just noticed these - very nice!
