Some miniatures I have painted for an ongoing Dark Heresy 1st Ed campaign.
Still practising with taking pictures !!!
Thought I'd post cause the forum looks fun!
Attached are -
1. Galatea de Vries, Adeptus Arbites intelligencer.
2. Ramsfold Chottle, Ratling quartermaster.
3. Zarkov, Imperial Psyker now deceased, got sucked into the warp unfortunately.
-
Nice paint work. I especially like the Ratling.
-
Lovely painting.
And welcome to LAF!
-
Dark Heresy is one of the few RPGs I've actually had the pleasure of running more than one game of. I liked it a lot, but sadly couldn't keep the players together due to scheduling.
Great miniature work!
-
Welcome aboard, galatea77!
:D
That is a great first post.
Loads of character in those figures.
8) 8)
A shame about Zarkov, though, as he is a great figure.
He must have a twin brother somewhere.....
;)
-
Thanks for the comments folks !
Here are my squad of ten NPC guards, standing in as security, soldiers etc as required.
-
This is Telvor, one of the player characters, an Adeptus Mechanicus Cyber Seer. Tells us something about Dark Heresy that this is what the party medic looks like.
-
5 sewer scavs. Painted a bit fast a loose to try a few new things.
-
nice, they look just like the necromunda ones
-
Those Scavs look great.
Fast and loose obviously suits them.
8) 8)
-
Love the scav' bases
-
Galatea de Vries, Adeptus Arbites Magistrate, wearing the power armour of the late Inquisitor Adorjin.
-
A quality thread this, great work :-*
-
Another quality addition.
Love that chainsword*
:-* :-*
(*You mad man!)
-
Many thanks for the comments guys !
Newest addition to the player party, Imperial Guardswoman Silk.
Poor pics sorry, I'm working on getting some decent lighting.
-
Nice work there - love the facial expression. Where's she from?
-
She's a Raging Heroes resin mini !

-
Some random NPC's.
Mysterious noble woman and eldar bodyguard.
Scholar/adept/keeper of dark tomes.
-
Nicde additions,
They have the right 'feel' to them.
8) 8)
I have the Eldar and the monk, but where is the lady from, I do not recognise her?
-
cheers dude !
She is Lenore from Hasslefree Miniatures, the metal one, code HFH087.

Future war...
-
Nice painting (including the base). Heavy use of inks and then edge highlighting? And where's the figure from?
-
It's a Hasslefree mini. And it is indeed nicely painted.
-
Fantastic work! Love the facial expression on Silk there. She looks like she's seen one of the many denizens of the Dark Heresy Bestiary!

Thanks guys !
Yeah base white and then ink up through black, brown, sepia, orange and finally yellow, drybrushing and detailing light grey and white along the way.
Yep it's a metal Hasslefree mini...

Superb work on the Hasslefree trooper. I really likethe noble woman too. And while we're asking about figures: where is the scholar/adept from?

Amazing brushwork and thanks for sharing.
Have you tried DH 2nd edition? If so, what do you think??
Please keep sharing :)
Mac
-
Wow, you are doing some really sweet work here!

Mac
Thanks guys ! Not had a chance to play 2nd ed. 1st Ed seems fine to me, no one in the group has mentioned on a move to 2nd. Read some mixed reviews on 2nd ed. We're 20 sessions into the campaign so getting plenty of mileage out of 1st !
More minis !! Trix is the one of the player characters, mini bought by the player, team sniper, took out an Eldar Vyper jet bike once.
Turned out a bit darker than I wanted maybe but looks suitably moody, don't mess with Trix...
-
Junker mit Zweihander, kinda Future Wars right ? It's a power sword, definitely a power sword.
-
Love the face on the swordswoman, maybe some techno doodad or detail on the belt or sword hilt would place her in the sci fi universe. Really though, she's great as she is.
-
Most interesting work, really! :)
-
Ordo Hereticus Inquisitorial cell 'Dolorosa' led by blue skinned power sword wielding Interrogator Teomachia Dax.
Dig it.
-
:o :o
What a stunning array of minis with great brushwork bringing out the best in them.
:-* :-*
Are they all from Hasslefree?
???
-
Thanks Mason !!
Yep all Hasselfree, they were a christmas project that ran over a little bit.
I promise some non Hasselfree stuff next.
-
I lack the words to do this thread and it's collection of superb minis justice! Beautifully painted and a fantastic diversity of models. Just about sums up what 40K/Dark Heresy/the inquisition is all about - fantastic work! As a bit of an Inquisitionfile this is just the sort of stuff I love to see.
Brilliant.
-
Many thanks for your comments Legionnaire Bert ! Most encouraging.
The attraction of 40k is it's open template I think, Rogue Trader era for me especially, where diverse elements can be explored whilst still being used part of a whole. Plus I can then use the minis in other games too without them looking too out of place.
-
I do really like the muted palette on these. Also agree with you about the diversity of the 40k world: heaps to explore as you build characters and teams.
-
Xenos, up to no good obviously...
-
Nice. There's some really neat stuff in this thread.
I really like the inquisitor and retinue, and the very 'gritty' look of your style.
There's quite a few minis in here that I've been looking at buying for a long time: Always nice to see them painted.
-
This is all pretty cool. wish I has noticed it earlier.
-
Those eldar look great: the gloss finish works really nicely with them.
-
Awesome stuff
Great use of the Hasslefree range
-
That's a nice collection of figures & some nice painting. (Coincidentally, several of the same models have turned up in the Inquisitor campaign I'm in at the moment.)
What make are the Sewer Scavs?
-
Very characterful

Many thanks for the positive comments everyone.
Genghis - the sewer scavs are from Copplestone -

-------------------------------------------------------------------
Some new dudes below- Bounty Hunters 'we don't need their scum'.
From left to right in first pic - Silas, Valkenhayn and Tyrex Nath.
-
Woow, once again full of character! Love them!!
-
Really like the new batch of figs.
-
Very nice. Thanks for the pointer towards Copplestone.
-
Xenos prey for the bounty hunters, Emperor willing.....
-
Having just painted forty of those bastards...I still love the sculpts. lol
-
Yeah iconic sculpts, I like the original slimmer ones too.
Shame about the heavy mould lines on some of the castings, something always seems to slip through !!
-
Indeed...particularly as a fan of dipping. I can sand/file to my heart's delight..dip...and BOOM! Mold line. lol
-
I undercoat white and then do a watered down black ink wash to better reveal hidden mould lines. I still fail.
Drybrushing reveals mould lines other techniques can't reach !!
-
Loving those bounty hunters. Superb paint jobs, and I love their ragtag appearance.
-
Excellent Prey and Hunters!
Love the colors you selected. They seem like a great comprimise between the RT flair and new-style grimdark.
-
Done!
-
On the hunt for heresy...
Inquisitor Anders Arkel, in the power armour, and retinue.
Elements of the past and the future combining - to make something not quite as good as either
-
Cawdor gangers gonna get you !!
Thanks to Dungeonmaster Mike for letting me paint them for him.
-
Neat! What a lovely bunch!
-
Loving all these paint jobs. The gloss varnish is very different but I like the effect a great deal. The basing is also quite distinctive, kudos to you for that!
I like the effects you've achieved on the Cawdor gun casings in particular - just out of interest can you briefly describe what was done?
Thank you for sharing!
Ragsta
-
Nice Job!
I think perhaps Dungeonmaster Mike should be thanking you. :D
-
Thanks for the encouraging comments dudes !

Ragsta
Cheers Ragsta ! - The guns are layers of light grey and white dry brush over successive layers of ink/wash and paint, I started with GW's agrax earthshade and then added drakenhof nightshade and fuegan orange.
The dark greeny blue you can see though is Vallejo model color 898 Dark Sea Blue which contrasts with the orange for the overall effect.
While going through these steps it can look a right mess at times but the drybrushing pulls it all together.
-
Not sure what this guy is, just sort of plopped out as an experiment in kitbashing and painting.
Nort Chem Trooper, Desert Mechanicus, Zone Tripper, straight out of the Radlands of Ji...
-
Damn! He looks amazing - what's he made from?
-
Now that is lovely. Real desert feel to the colour palette.
-
Brilliant!
Wonderful kitbashing and the paintjob, especially the weathering, looks great.
:-* :-*
-
There really is some great stuff in this thread. Everything has this lovely John Blance vibe.
Great job!
-
Love that robot guy! He looks fantastic: a great build and a distinctive paint job too.
-
I concur, the paintjob here is quite unique, I love it! :-* :-*
-
Thanks for the comments dudes, most encouraging !!
Damn! He looks amazing - what's he made from?
Cheers Framson - he's all Games Workshop parts, Skitarii legs, head, arms/gun. Cadian body. Backpack is a Cadian radio pack cut in half with parts from a marine melta gun added.
-
Cheers!
-
Your acolytes will learn to fear the Desert Mechanicus....but not the Dessert Mechanicus who are generally well regarded by all.
-
Lovely models!!! :-* :-*
I really like the sandy colour palette you used for the Mechanicus!
Show us more!! :D
-
The palette has quite a Blanchesque quality. For me it's like seeing an illustration came to 3D o_o
Lovely work, seriously.
-
A lovely expansion of the force.

-
Thanks for the positive comments dudes !!
Buildings! Somewhat based on Eilif's modular idea. Foamboard and PVA glue on 20cm square tiles, so I can potentially keep going to make a townscape.
-
Just worked my way through this thread and I love it!
Seeing characters develop, get killed off and the ever growing cast makes me want to know the story.
You've managed to populate a well known universe with some really unique - and well painted - characters. Once again I find myself reaching for my well thumbed rogue trader book and the lure of 28mm....... damn you!
-
Good way to start a town on the cheap
-
Radland warriors, desert raiders, etc.
-
More great stuff! I think the guy on the right is my favourite. Something about the bare head and the long rifle.
-
Very nice; I particularly like that you've made the counter-intuitive pairing of the cultist & storm trooper work together.
-
Nice raiders!
-
Lovely figures and a wonderful Blanchesque paintjob on many of them. I love Silk; you've sold me on a range I never really liked before.
-
Many thanks for the feedback Imperial citizens.
Desert Pilgrim.......
-
Bonus Eldar for the Xenos fans......
-
The lime green on the raiders is very striking.
-
Great stuff- I really like the color schemes you have going, and clever use of bits.
-
Nice! You actually gave me some cool ideas :-*
-
Been slacking so I though I'd better put some effort in. Repainted this dude cause he didn't really fit with the desert raiders aesthetic.
-
Lovely work once again!
-
Great paintjob
-
Eldar !!
-
and more Eldar !
-
They really were (are) beautiful miniatures. Well done on giving them a nice paint scheme.
-
Nice! Especially the helmets!
-
Thanks guys.
Group picture, full squad of Xenos problems for the Inquisition...
-
Repainted some old cultists to go with my desert raiders theme. Bit scrappy, painted over the top of an existing paint job and a thick layer of gloss varnish.
-
Inquisitorial Enforcer Vincenzo Jonas...
-
Nice work, sir.
He looks great!
:-* :-*
Where is that shooter from?
???
-
I like him too. Top half Cadian, bottom half Empire with a plastic gun conversion?
-
It is the gun I was wondering about as I do not recognise it.
I am no expert on GW kits, mind you.......
-
Nice work.
-
Many thanks comrades.
The gun/arms are from GW's Neophytes box. I glued on a magazine to liven it up a bit.
Cadian body, Empire Greatsword legs, sword and head.
-
That arbite is :-* :-* :-* Lovely conversion and paintjob.
-
Inquisitor Jerusalem Descartes....
-
Great. How did you make his hair and beard ?
-
AWu - the head is from a plastic empire kit, the hair and beard already on it. :)
-
LOL lol
I meant how did you paint them :P
-
The hair and beard started off white.
Then I dab some dark red and orange for the roots of the hair.
Next ink or wash the hair dark brown/sepia.
Then drybrush light grey.
Then ink with Valejo Game Ink Amarillo Yellow.
Then drybrush white.
The yellow ink is so much easier than using yellow paint.
-
I'm with AWu, hair is well done - as is the colour matching on the figure (not to mention the conversion).
-
Thanks, I am doing mine with white + washes, but I have yellow ink from gw, I will try it.
-
Operative IV 'Ivy'...one of Inquisitor Descartes' team.
-
Interesting figure.
-
Agree - lovely story telling. Where are all the pieces of the conversion from?
-
The Inquisitor is all GW, Astra Militarum body, Neophyte legs. The other parts I'm not sure, got them in bits off ebay, marine arm and plasma pistol and marine lightning claw I assume, the cloak and head are from an Empire kit I think but no idea which one.
-
Former mercenary and now Inquisitorial agent Silas...
-
Hexenjaeger Lupus Trollmann, in action for the Inquisition...
-
Nice.
-
Inquisition troops ready for action...
and a group shot with Lupus and Vincenzo...
on the hunt for heresy and witchcraft.
-
I totally love your take on these. Marvellous.
-
Cadians are ugly by themselves but can be base for really great conversions. I really like them. :-*
Are those greatswords legs ?
-
Great execution - I agree, a great reimaging.
-
Thanks guys.
Yep, Greatsword legs, and heads. Cadian body and arms are Cadian or Neophyte. Trimmed the lasgun barrel on one and gave one a suitably oversized melta gun.
