Title: TWD's Greek Of Gods and Mortals (Skeleton hero 06/08)
Post by: TWD on September 29, 2015, 12:01:21 AM
I painted this SHQ (ex Chiltern) Poseidon for my small boy's OGAM warband

He looks great! I especially like the way you handle the fleshtones--wish I could do that. As an aside, how do you like OGAM? I've been doing some solo games of 7th Voyage lately and have really been enjoying it, but I'm always interested in other rules for the period.

Thanks Arundel,
The flesh was very easy, just Tallarn Flesh with Ogryn Flesh Wash, then re-highlight with the base colour and then more highlights with Elf flesh mixed with the Tallarn.

Only played one game so far and that was without the gods. So it was just like Song of Blades... I suspect the Gods add an extra dimension to the game, so we'll see if I get to play again this weekend.

Medusa looks great as well.

(Thank you for the flesh formula, TWD. Now I'm all fired up to try it!)

So this is now turning into an OGAM thread...

Anyway small boy and I played a showdown between Poseidon and Hermes.

The Crusader range is a good one and these have come up well.  I note you had an issue with domed shields and transfers.  One little trick I use is to lightly score the back of the transfers along the diagonals - makes them more pliable.   Could also use a decal softening agent.

Post by: TWD on January 28, 2016, 12:10:56 PM
Thanks for the tip, I'll give the scoring a go.

I also think investing in some MicroSol may well be the answer.

That and not being a ham-fisted buffoon.

Thanks. Got a couple more Centaurs to finish and then yeah, maybe a group shot will be in order.

I'm also hoping to bully persuade the smallest boy to give me a game this weekend. Though as I've failed to find and paint a "Kraken" model that Poseidon can unleash he may be reluctant.

I've suggested that (I even have some GW LotR Watcher in the Water tentacles somewhere). But he basically wants a giant octopus/squid.
The Scotia Grendel swamp monster fits the bill, but that seems a prcey addition to what is essentially a sde project (nice model though it is).

The brass bull and the minotaur they have with two weapons are both better in metal than bones. Both lose a lot of detail in the transition...

Post by: TWD on April 15, 2018, 06:00:03 PM
Thanks.

Yeah the bull is a great model - larger and nicer than the Foundry one IMO and way cheaper in Bones.

I think we used Q3 C3 Artifical, Slow and Big.
We debated Dashing and Long Move as well, but wanted to keep it simple - more than 3 special rules always seems a bit much for a hero.

I don't have a Hades yet.
These were done because James' son was coming over to play and wanted some skeletons (I think he's been reading or watching Jason and the Argonauts) :).
They served Poseidon in their one outing so far.
However I think I'll be placing an order for the SHQ Hades pack shortly.

You are very kind.
Compared with most on here I think I'm a journeyman painter at best - and Contrast Paints are doing a *lot* of the heavy lifting on these. And especially on the fauns which I think would still languish on the sprue if I couldn't just slather with Gulliman Flesh and Gore-grunta fur :)

I like that Priest of Hades mini. A nice collection of figures you have there.
