It's early days yet and much more info is needed but this has the potential to be promising:

(Being a pedantic nerd: the article seems to have confused Woking with Dorking).

Well as a self confessed WOW nerd I just hope that they do dear old HG's work proud and also much better than any of the 2005 trash that came out >:(

News on the street is it's going to be faithful to the book. I hope so! If they can nail the atmosphere created in the book they're on to a winner.

+1 million to that! 8)

That's great news - encouraging that the Strange & Norrel folks are involved, too.

I could see the bloke who played Jonathan Strange as the journalist even 8)

Had a shock for an instant when I followed the link and saw Tom Cruise looking back - thought for a moment he was going to be in this - phew!

Don't be silly. The chances of Tom Cruise being in a British production of War of the Worlds are a million to one.
-
Yet million-to-one chances happen nine times out of ten.

That's the problem. The last 'faithful' to the story production was considered a yawner. You can get details right and blow the actual drama.
Of course, plenty of folk have claimed both and delivered neither.
I'm an old man, and keep my hopes high and expectations low.
