Hi there,
my name is Carlos and I'm from Germany. For quite some time I've been interested in SAGA as it seemed to be a nice skirmisher. But to be honest I couldn't find historical miniatures that fit my taste. So I gave up on the system, or rather didn’t even give it a try. When GW released AoS I was starting a new Mordheim warband of dwarfs. At that time a topic in the Tabletopwelt.de Forum catched my eye. A Fantastic SAGA. Wait? SAGA and Fantasy? I couldn’t resist and started to read the rulebook.
There were Battleboards for four races (one of them dwarfs, yey!) and the design of the fanmade book was great! From pure curiosity I began to get really interested. It seemed the basic rules of SAGA remained untouched and were just supplemented by adding monster, creatures, war machines and mages. None of them appeared too strong, but for someone like me, who loves fantasy settings, suddenly there were tons of ideas of miniatures, conversions and wargaming terrain I wanted to see on a battlefield using skirmish rules. Therefore I decided to make my dwarven warband, originally build up for Mordheim, slightly bigger. Well more like four times bigger. :D
Unfortunately I choose a quite high painting level for the dwarfs. Well, as I thought it would only be a warband of roundabout 10 miniatures, that was no problem. But painting 40-50 dwarfs with NMM, weathering and other elaborate painting techniques, is really time consuming. Now several month have past and I’m still far from finishing my SAGA warband, but I’ve made quite some progress. So this is the current status:

And here you have some more pictures of the individual miniatures:

As I just make pictures of recently finished miniatures, I don't have any pictures of every single unit. But I'll make some soon.
If there are any german speaking fellows out there interested in learning more about A Fantastic SAGA, I wrote a little review here: http://luferox.blogspot.de/2015/11/saga-eine-liebeserklarung.html
There's a possibility on the blog to let google make a translation, but to be honest... it sucks... :/

Very nice painting! What make are the dwarfs?
-
Great looking minis!
-
*drip* *drip* *drip* *drip* - the sound of salliva dripping out of my mouth.
Awesome!
Lovely gaming table too!
-
Very good painting ! :-*
Love the way you've done the NMM.
-
FANTASTIC! The Vertically Challenged Ones look WONDERFUL...BEAUTIFULLY painted & based. While they may have taken longer than you would have like, the end result was well worth the time & effort. VERY WELL DONE!
-
Saw these once, when I visited tabletopwelt. They are very beautifully painted, and it's a nice mix of miniatures.

That should be the Avatar of War models. The got a few metal ones for their heroes. But meanwhile they got a lot of non metal regiment boxes. Some plastics I think, but mostly resin.
@ Luferox
Truly amazing, as already stated
welcome here!
-
Absolutely gorgeous paintwork - love the Stonegolem too! :)
-
That's some amazing painting! :o No wonder it takes you ages!
-
Excellent painting on show making the force look very intimidating.
-
Wow thanks alot for all your comments! I'm very glad you like them. Everytime I read comments like yours, I feel reasured to keep on painting them in this NMM sheme. :)
Like Drachenklinge allready wrote the most of the dwarfs are from Avatars of War, but there are also some miniatures from Scibor, GW and the golem is from Troll-Outpost.
-
Your dwarves look terrific. I particularly like the NMM armor & the beard color choices & highlights. Great job.
cheers-

Very well done! And I like the autumn colour palette.
-
After seeing these I never want to paint again! Your skills are amazing.

Wrong take there mate! Keep on painting until you're content with the results.
I agree on your judgement of Carlos' skills, though. They are amazing, indeed!
Carlos, I love your terrain, too!
By the way: a fantastic saga is really cool!
Cheers

KGatch113, **GS** is right. If your unsatisfied with your current painting skills, just try new techniques and practice them. I'm still learning things on every miniature I do and to be honest, I still have tons of things I'd like to improve. But it's ok. I like my results and I have a lot of fun painting.
Thanks for the compliment **GS**. I'm glad you like the dwarfs and terrain. :D
Coming up next are these little fellows. Brute strength and mighty shooting power. What else there is to say? ^^ I hope to finish them until end of February. Don't laugh! I'm a slow painter, with two little children who want their're share of time and love. :)

Anyway, I can't work on a project for a long time without doing other stuff now and then. This time I started building another little woodbase for my battlefield. Though the picture sucks, I'm sorry... Up till now the base is build and the trees and base got a basecoat of different Montana Spraycans. For miniatures the Montana spraycans are too rough, but for terrain they're a cheap and fast way to get nice results. Specially when you don't own an airbrush system. :)

And that's how the Wood should look like when finished.

Still waiting for the battle report, dude. No pressure. ;D
-

-
These are just.... you leave me speechless :-* :-* :-* :-* :-* :-*
-
I like the tattoo on the slayer
-
*gasp*
-
Fantastic !

These are amazing! Out of interest, where did you get the longbeards from? They look like Avatars of War Bronzeshields, but I can't find anywhere that sells them any more. Seeing them painted so well has confirmed that I'd like a set if I can find them.
-
Thank you all! :)

Yeah your right. They're Ironshields from Avatars of War. I got them from a guy who didn't want them anymore. I already tried to get my hands on some more of them, but didn't had luck up till now. I really like them as well. :)

I can only agree with everyone else - Fantastic paintwork!!
Love the NMM and the stone golem.

-
I do! What a fantastic looking group.
-
I'm not a fan of the models (other than the golem) but the brush work is awesome!
-
The Vertically Challenged Ones are BEAUTIFULLY painted & based little treasures...a WONDERFUL setting as well. VERY WELL DONE!
-
Great army and table! :-*
I love the colours on the table as well!
-
Wow! Those miniatures are beautiful! Love the nmm work, I always run out of patience whenever I have a go, and, well everything else is also great.
Cracking job.
-
Unfortunately I choose a quite high painting level for the dwarfs.
Aye, but remember that you will rejoice many times over when you put those beauties on the table!
-
:o they are outstanding! the NMM and the terrain everything looks fantastic.
-
Thanks a lot to all of you. It makes me really happy that my Dawi are well received by you guys! I like them too and though it may be a bit frustrating using NMM on a whole army I'm still glad I did it. Next step will be making the units bigger. I'd like to have an dwarven army for 9th Age, so there is still a lot to do.
Same for the table and terrain. I wanted a autumn styled board and I'm on a good way achieving that. My next piece of terrain will be an little entrance to my dwarven hold. Well not more than a hill, a gate and some trees, but I hope it will look nice on the board. Once it's finished I'll share it with you. :)
-
These all look amazing!
-
Lovely stuff. Always good to see dwarfs painted up so nicely.
-
Top notch painting. A truly breathtaking warband
-
These just look incredible. You should be very proud of your abilities, I wish I was half as good a painter! Congratulations :)
