Title: Teamsterz Train sets
Post by: vsfguthroth on April 04, 2016, 07:34:35 AM
Hi

I have a couple of these train sets for use in my IHMN games, and can completely recommend them. (Some are on Amazon for 6.50 with free delivery today)

My question relates to repainting. The ones I have are bright red and silver – generally awful – so have to be redone. The question is what colour ?

Is there a generic paint job I can apply ? Maybe Black like the BR livery of later years ? Or do I need to go for a specific corporate colour – Green, Maroone etc.

Finally can someone recommend a UK supplier of decals of about the right scale ?

It really depends what it's for?

An overall black would be the easy option but otherwise you can take your pick.

The big four would be as follows (the black for goods engines only):

GWR = dark green
LMS = maroon or black
LNER = Apple green or black
SR = mid green or black

If you wanted to have pre-grouping (before the 20's) you can take your pick. In fact you might as well just make up a railway company and paint your loco any shade you like.

The saddle tank Teamsterz loco would fit the LNER not the other three big companies but the 220 loco would be a good fit for the LMS or SR but not the GWR.

I guess it depends how fussy you are or where your games are set?

What gauge of track do these run on?

The trains are intended as scenery rather than gaming items, after all a railway yard makes a great battlefield. They don't run but the spread of the running wheels fit just outside standard HO track.

I like the idea of making a company up and dark green has an appeal  :)

I just need to find some suitable decals

Thanks for that.

I have quite a few feet of HO track done up for the table, so love it when something comes along that will sit actually on the rails.

One of the guys at my local club is as much a model railway nut as he is a wargamer, and he said that HO track is the right scale for 'Narrow Gauge' railways when used with 28mm figures.

I made some 28mm (ish) track using plastic rails from a toy train set based on some purpose cut mdf rectangles (not sure I'd need to now as the Sarissa railway track would be an easier option!) At least it was cheap as I got the train sets in a Xmas sale at the Robert Dyas. The train is one of those cheapo Goldlok ones from China which I found at the local tip. Some photos and a 'how to' here:

I always find HO/OO track looks too small for 28mm..something to do with the sleepers being packed too close together.

You could try 0 16.5 track which is narrow gauge for 7mm scale. It might look a bit less underscale with 28mm?
