Prodos Games ill fated AvP “Alien vs Predator - The Hunt Begins” Kickstarter finally delivers the pledges.
I pledged and got really frustrated over the years, at some moments I was really angry. But in the end Prodos delivered a superb product. Incredible well proportioned minis in a very user friendly resin (glues like a charm with super glue, nearly indestructible and still keeps the shape).
Even the game rules makes a good impression, not to mention the game components! So after receiving the game 3 days ago I started with some Alien stalkers to try some speed painting techniques, both minis are finished under 25 Mins. Priming, dry brushing and inking, after that a glossy varnish - done.
The bases are 30mm MDF since I still really DISLIKE all round lipped bases...
;)
More to come...
And as always more pics on my site: http://www.adpublishing.de/html/avp.html
-
They look fantastic and 25mins a piece as well 8) 8) 8)
cheers
James
-
Thanks James, I am really hyped now about the minis, they are really very very good.
-
"... I still really DISLIKE all round lipped bases..."
Preach on brother man. Preach on.

Not sure if this is funny meant or serious...
???
Anyway, let me explain. Normally I use the bases provided, but since I do not like the round lipped ones (too difficult to hold for me) I use a flat MDF base od equal diameter.
-
I'd say it was in agreement. I'm not fond of those enormous bases myself. Makes the minis look like they're running an assault course with tractor tyres. :D
Cracking minis! Really good looking effect from that speed-painting. Great minis on nicely-sized bases, too. ;)
-
Nice Stalkers, Agis :-*
Would you mind to share the paints used?
-
Both are very good painted, but I like the black one a little bit more. I think brown is not as alien as it should be.
-
Both great but I'd agree that the black one is the more 'ckassic' look. Very nice work, especially for the time.
-
I think after painting so much Terminators Agis became the Paintinator 😉
-
Nice Stalkers, Agis :-*

Thanks,
the skinny tone was dead simple.
I primed it with FoW British Armour (Desert), after that just a hint of white primer on top.
Then a Citadel Reikland Fleshshade and some Agrax Earthshade here and there.
After drying a very light drybrush in white, then Enamel glossy clear.
Done.
Black one even simpler, black primer, boltgun brushwork, nuln oil wash, very light drybrush in silver, glossy varnish.
-
Aliens is my favourite film of all time and you, sir, have done those fantastic models justice with amazing paint jobs! :o The black is my favourite of the two. I think the lighter toned one is more Alien 3?
-
It may be time to check out if my FLGS has got this game. Always wanted to game Colonial Marines vs Xenomorphs.
Added to that, I think Aliens will be a fantastic stand-in for T'lekkan in God of Battles... :)
-
Not sure if this is funny meant or serious...
Mos def serious. :-I
-
They look excellent - definitely prefer the original colour.
-
Always really enjoy your work!
-

That was the idea!
-
That was the idea!
Ok, i think tonight I have to watch it again. Aliens (Part 2) left the strongest memories in my mind. And the last scene of Prometheus with this little beautiful alienbaby.
-
Superb work on these, can't wait to see what you do with the rest of the miniatures.
-

That was the look I was aiming for.
The next mini will be a bit more brown and less flesh like.
-
I think you talk of this:

-
Stunning as always!
-
Fantastic paint job as always. I actually like the flesh color one. Since the stalker is based on the "dog alien" from Alien 3, you captured that look perfectly.
-
Wonderfull.
I like the look of the fleshy one, but I'm a purist so the origional is the way to go for me.
Looking forward to the rest and glad you got your toys.
-
Bloody awesome painting. Really pleased to hear it arrived.
Who knows, maybe one day I may be equally excited about this product. For now, it just induces panic attacks. :)
-
Nice work, Aegis. I must confess I didn't occur to me to use metallic paints for the aliens, and I was kinda dreading the day when I actually might have to paint them.... not that the day seems any closer yet.
Would 'tin bits' or equivalent work with/instead of boltgun?
-

Don't really know...
If tin bits is lighter than Boltgun just use an additional layer of ink, that should do it.
(And who is Aegis?) ;) ;)
-
Yyyup. I assumed Alien 3 myself. I also have one of these (https://www.flickr.com/photos/mattandkristy/2724849204/in/album-72157610820879989/) somewhere - a gashapon of a 'new warrior' from Alien Resurrection - and it's not too far off either.
Nice work, Aegis. I must confess I didn't occur to me to use metallic paints for the aliens
See here (https://monsterlegacy.net/2015/02/05/starbeast-alien/). A 'biomechanical insect' made with metallic pipes, rolls royce parts and bottle caps. (Albeit painted over) And chrome-plated teeth. :D
Would 'tin bits' or equivalent work with/instead of boltgun?
If we're thinking of the same tin bitz, it's a pretty dark, brownish metallic colour. Personally I'd use it more for a 'brown' alien, like those of A3 or A:R, and even then I might want it a bit lighter to stand up to multiple/heavy washes. Though that's without trying it, first.
-
That's a very interesting article you've linked to. Thanks.

Ups, sorry AGIS! :D
Tin Bitz is a kind of dirty metallic, slightly more 'brown' or maybe dark bronzy than boltgun, but about the same level of darkness. It used to be a GW paint, but that was from the pop-cap era. I still have a pot that works. Have to make some experiments, if I ever gets my minis.

I searched for an equivalent. Lot of painters use GW Warplock Bronce for it.

2nd!
BIG thanks.

Hard to say on basis of pics alone, but it looks just a little too 'bronzy' to me - maybe mix in a little boltgun? I will get a tin and compare it in real life, once I get around visiting a store that carries GW here.
-
Well after saying that the minis need around 25 Mins each I really went to town and finished 8 more this week. So two 5 Alien stalker "squads" are finished.
I primed it with FoW British Armour (Desert), after that just a hint of white primer on top.

And a detail shot to show just how good the minis are sculpted and cast...

(Normally I am not showing minis that close...)

They are stunning.
-
:) :) :)
-
Yes, they are. For such a simple job they are mindblowingly good!!
-
I think the technique works incredibly well with them. Especially the gradation of the wash on the head, from light towards the dark, nearly 'crash helmet visor' forehead, and the effect of wash + gloss varnish recreating the wet, slimy look of xenomorphs. Fantastic.
-
Agis, they are amazing! If you hadn't told me and only posted the third picture, I would have been totally convinced they were a much bigger scale! :o :-* :-* :-*
-
Fantastic job!
-
Beautimous. Simply beautimous. :o
-
I really think they look better than the film ones! 8) 8) 8)
-
Great stuff Agis

The Alien I “Infant” is painted. Also the first Colonial Marine.
The 5 “Infants” received the same simple paint treatment as the black Stalkers above. So again black primer, boltgun brushwork, nuln oil wash, very light drybrush in silver. Only difference, before the glossy varnish I gave the minis a thinned layer of Citadels Guilliman Blue Glaze.
The Marine took longer to paint. The mini is again a wonderful sculpt, very realistic proportioned and full of detail.
More - including a detail pic of the Infant - as always on my website:

Agis, they are perfect(your Aliens). All paintings are great. What rules do you use? Old Starship Troopers or play test of your new ones?
-

Well right now I play around with forces based on Victory Decision Future Combat for Marines and Preds, and Victory Decision: Future Combat - Rival Species for Aliens.
I was amazed myself that I already covered all Alien minis from Prodos ...
Stalker, Infant and Warrior can be done using the Assault Warrior Horde from Page 19.
Stalker: Assault Warrior Horde with Options (Soft-shelled Armour, Fast)
Infant: Assault Warrior Horde with Options (Soft-shelled Armour, Infiltrator)
Warrior: Assault Warrior Horde with Options (Alert and Deadly)
Worked good so far!
-
You really are selling me on these models! The newest stuff all looks fantastic! :o :-*
-
Fantastic stuff!
-
That Marine looks awesome! :o
-
That Marine looks awesome! :o
Yes, exactly! That sets the bar for you quit high, Christian! ;)
-
Thanks again Folks!
That sets the bar for you quit high, Christian! ;)
And no pressure please... ;) ;) ;)
-
That Marine (well and infants too) :-*
-
I'm going to disagree with the majority here, and applaud the choice of the dark beige color scheme for the stalker aliens. After all, it's the canonical scheme based on the appearance of the Aliens 3 xeno, on which these minis are based.
I also think that, once you have a sizeable horde of the bugs together, different colours will help differentiate them easily; otherwise, it may be difficult telling them appart, with all those exposed ribs, long tails and elongated heads.
This KS has been a big pain in the arse for us backers, but in the end it has finally paid off. The minis are astounding, and those heavily textured alien sculpts lend themselves very well for speed painting techniques.
Keep up with the good work, Agis!
-
I was again busy last week.
Another batch of Infant Aliens:
I could not resist and make one stand out, the famous “grid” Alien from the AvP movie.
Grid was a smooth-domed Xenomorph Drone spawned during the ill-fated Weyland Expedition to Bouvetøya. Grid was responsible for killing the Predator Scar's brothers and clanmates Chopper and Celtic, and was able to escape being shot by Scar's plasma caster attacks.
KS exclusive female Predator - again a very good sculpt, IMO a bit thin for a bulky Pred, so I decided to make her look even more gaunt, ripped abs and all.
And while at it I also repainted an old HororClix Predator! Fits good sizewise:
and as always more on my site:
http://www.adpublishing.de/html/avp.html
-
Swcheet Jeebus, :o but that's some mighty fine paintin' there.
-
Yes, very nice indeed. Where do you get those bases, are they your own work?
I've been kinda on the fence about Fenris Sulaco & Ark bases...
-
The old Wizkids Preds perfectly fit to the range of Prodos' Predator figures. Good job, Agis! :-*
-
Looking awesome.
What colours did you use for grids grid?
-
Big thanks folks!

My bases are more or less my own work using, Milliput, sand, some Alien parts, some plastic scrap and Anvil Industries Rubble parts: http://anvilindustry.co.uk/Anvil-Gaming-Bases
Great stuff!
-
Stunning! Especially Scar, nice choice for a unique pattern. 8) 8) 8)
-
What colours did you use for grids grid?
Citadel Waagh Flesh and then mixed in more and more Averland sunset.
(But basically any green to yellow blend will do!)

The so called Warrior Aliens - detail picture below, the minis are as good as the Infant sculpts!
And a comparison shot with a current GW Genestealer. Amazing how undetailed the GW plastic looks!
http://www.adpublishing.de/html/avp.html
-
Nice work on those Warriors, Agis. 8)
-
You're right, it does kind of make the genestealer look a bit clunky and basic.
-
As brilliant as always.
Have you used the same painting recipe as for the drones, including the final blue glaze? That last glaze doesn't seem to be shown on the pics (not that it was too obvious on the drones, either).
-

I started painting the big Aliens, 1st is the Alien Queen from Alien II.
And after receiving countless questions how I painted them all so fast, I also included a small pictured tutorial.
Scroll down here: http://www.adpublishing.de/html/avp.html

Wow! Great stuff mate! :-*

5 more Warriors and ...
the Alien Royal Guard, a creature from the expanded background. Similar size as the Queen mini, so some additional effort was a good idea.
I painted the mini more or less identical as the Warriors, the drybrush and highlights were just applied with that extra bit of care suitable for such an extraordinary mini.
A group shot together with this weeks Warriors.
More as always on my website: http://www.adpublishing.de/html/avp.html

Agis, this is brilliant work! :o the Prodos Aliens are bloody amazing sculpts

Inspiring work on the Aliens

I finally finished two more Marines, the Smart gunner and the Medic.
The Smart gunner is simply assembled and painted as the Assault Rifle Marine below. The “Fever” decal is from an old Gear Krieg US walker, the skull is from the master of all things skullish, GW!
The Medic looked somehow a bit female to me. The arms are a bit thinner. By sheer accident I stumbled over the female Marine conversion by Freefallrlc (http://prodosgames.com/community/alien-vs-predator/female-marine) and really liked it. And since I also had some Statuesque female heads around, I converted the mini also. The spare helmet was attached to the belt.
more as always on my website: http://www.adpublishing.de/html/avp.html
And BTW - I also started work on the WY Commandos and I was just BLOWN away by the sheer casting quality.
Just check out the ring on the chest armour. I just could not believe it, the mini is a two part casting, body is one piece and the arms and flame-thrower is the other piece!
Prodos still managed to cast that quality on a one piece body. They may have mishandled the KS, but their minis are simply some of the best around!
-
A continuation of some splendid work :-* :-* :-*
cheers
James
-
Another great addition Agis! Was the medic a KS special?
-

No. Its part of the core box. He just added a female head.

Wonderful painting, sir. :-*
Once again, must I say !

Wonderful painting and great tutorials, bravo! 8)

OK, I got distracted by Trek, but the first Wayland Yutani Commando is also finished!
Another incredible good sculpt for AvP. It is based on the look of the WYCs from the game Aliens: Colonial Marines. -> http://avp.wikia.com/wiki/Weyland-Yutani_PMC
Consequently I tried to do the pic justice with the colors I chose...

The commandos really are stunning! Good thing I bought some packs! lol

Some packs? Aren't they a bit limited in their poses for more that 1 or 2 packs?

Thanks!

Some packs? Aren't they a bit limited in their poses for more that 1 or 2 packs?
with a "few" I meant two. 8)
-
LOL, perfect number! ;)
-
Always a pleasure to see your latest work.
-
I haven't played the game, so I didn't know the W-Y commandos had that colour scheme. Very stormtroopy, don't you think? I wonder how they'd look with a head swap, either from a Star Wars trooper or perhaps an Eisenkern one. Like a realistic version of a stormtrooper. In this very galaxy, within a century from now...
-
Blimey that's nice. Very well done.
-

Great stuff!
Agis, may I ask where you get the bases from (thickness etc.) and what material you are using other then the above mentioned? Is that cork, what's a good place to get such things?
-
I am using 2mm mdf bases from War Bases UK:
http://war-bases.co.uk/
After that the above mentioned parts...

Did you pin the miniatures to their bases?

Thanks ;)
Did you pin the miniatures to their bases?
The AvP minis are all indeed pinned.

The Predalien
"A Predalien (or PredAlien) is a Xenomorph spawned from a Yautja. Amongst the most notable results of the Xenomorph's DNA reflex, the Predalien takes more clearly after its Yautja host, sharing physical features such as dreadlocks, mandibles and lighter skin coloration.[1] They are lethal combatants, often seen to possess strength far in excess of human-spawned Xenomorphs owing to the greater physical prowess of their hosts, a trait the Predalien subsequently inherits and enhances. They are apparently rare and are regarded by the Yautja as abominations and an insult to their species.
The Predalien is notable for being the only Xenomorph caste created in the expanded universe to have subsequently crossed over into the official film franchise, first appearing on-screen (in Chestburster form) at the end of Alien vs. Predator. The adult creature was then seen in Aliens vs. Predator: Requiem. Predaliens had previously featured extensively in the video games and comic books of the Alien vs. Predator franchise." from avp.fandom.com

I only recently discovered some nice AvP related minis on etsy. I ordered some out curiosity and was very positive surprised!
