Hello everyone,
Over the past two odd years I've been slowly painting my collection for the above project. For the project I mainly used Perry Miniatures with Blitzkrieg and Mad Bob vehicles as the basis. There is still alot more to do and with summer on us the climate is quite warm so more modelling will be done ready for Autumn.
I'm a fan of Hollywood/historical genre, so I've kept this in mind when I've painted my collection.
Thanks for looking.

AGN Sdkfz 10 has been used in the collection which fits the Perry Miniatures DAK very well. In addition, John Hart has provided some model vehicles for my collection. Some Italian pre-production models of the AS 37 and TL 37. Valiant Models also have some codes which can be used with the Perry Miniatures. Namely, the trailer and 105 mm howitzer.

Superb Helen. Glad to see you back in painting action!

Beautiful stuff, Helen. Are the drivers conversions, especially for the 47/32s?
-
Fantastico! Every base is a diorama. Love your landscaping.

Thank you for your kind words. Only one driver which has the tankers headdress. The crew can be found in the Italian code of Perry Miniatures web-site.

My own Sicily collection is proceeding very slowly but it's one of those that doesn't really matter how long it takes, it's more important (to me) to get it just how I want it. :)

What a great collection, Helen. With many interesting vehicles and vignettes out of the ordinary. Great stuff :)
Slow and steady wins the day. That's my approach to all my various projects now. Go long and keep adding a few bits and pieces to them as and when you feel like it. Why break your neck? :)

All the best.

Thanks Rich. Yes Rich, Mad Bob have been included in my collection. I like his models as they fit well with Perry Miniatures.
-
A great collection of figures.
Glad to see you painting again.
Always enjoy seeing what you are collecting.
-
Really like the vignette and character/story basing. Awesome :)
-
Thanks everyone for your kind words.
I can attest to a fair number of head swaps to achieve the end result.
-
Well done Helen - a very fine collection there! :) Great basework too.
With the exception of a few Maltese done, I haven't had the ww2 vibe for now, though I used to do esci 1/72 many many years ago. The Mediterranean area is my favourite.

Gorgeous stuff Helen! :D
I've been working on Italian campaign stuff myself. Is that the 65mm mountain gun you've got there? in (I think) the third of your pictures? May I ask where you got it since it's not Perry or Blitzkrieg?
Have you considered using the Empress Italians in Adrian helmets? Apparently these were quite common in the 2nd line units in Sicily.

Thank you Eclaireur. Yes it is a 65 mm mountain gun from Brigade Games in their WW1 Italian section. I've been thinking about the adrian helmets to which I would use the Perry Miniatures French Heads.

H,
even if you don't want to use the Empress Italians in adrien helmets they do sell heads with those on separately. You could then graft them onto your Perrys. I shall look for one of those Brigade Games guns :-*
keep up the good work!

Hello, just a quick update on additional vehicles for my Sicily/Tunisia 43 collection. Some Perry Miniature conversions made to some of the crew shown. John Hart made the Sdkfz 135 Marder 1 using the Neucraft Lorraine and scratch building the upper structure and barrel assembly.
The Opel gun truck is a made from using a dremel on the Perry Miniatures Opel Truck and placing an AGN flak gun on the back.
For Phil Robinson: Phil, I've finally used one of the fences you sent me along time ago. I think it worked out well with the Italian traffic control. Thank you ever so much!
More to follow during the winter period.
Thanks for looking.

Good use of the Irregular Miniatures fence too :)

Such a joyful thread. So many nice miniatures, well done.

I'm waiting for the Rubicon BMW and sidecar to be released shortly, then I'll be adding some M/C machine gun teams to my DAK collection too :)

Thanks everyone. More goodies soon, I hope. :)

What a wonderful collection! Good to see the Italians get some love.
Who makes the Italian tank crew? I identified two of the figures as Perry miniatures but what about the rest?
I particularly like the Italian traffic cop - I guess I'll have to get that one as well to complete my checkpoint.

well done, Helen :-*

Dear Helen,
You have a good collection already . Some good painting and I'm not sure it it has already been mentioned . The figures in my honest opinion would greatly improve if the eyes were less defined,
slightly smaller . I feel this would greatly improve the final effect .
Just a minor adjustment on some already good painting.
-
Very nice.
-
Thank you all for your kind words. Eyes look good for toy soldiers.
Cheers!

Thank you.

Nice! That is one massive tractor!
Thanks Rich. Yes it's a large vehicle. John made a lovely tracttore in 1/56th scale. As you know this tractor replaced the Pavesi, but was to late for North Africa.

Very nice :) I always found the huge tractor-style wheels on some Italian soft-skins, while an entirely rational approach to the moving through soft sand, look strikingly peculiar, but a lovely job on these unusual vehicles.
-
Some really nice additions to your collection, Helen.
Well done.
-
Thank you all for your kind words once more. I love Italian vehicles. There is something about them that makes them attractive.
I've nearly completed a second Pavesi and then I've two more Pavesi with steel wheels to complete.
Cheers,
Helen

The Italian trattore Pavesi P4 from Perry Miniatures in addition the Sdkfz 254 Saurer is also from Perry Miniatures.
Thank you.

I have to say it's Helen who keeps me supplied with a queue of oddities to build, particularly for the Italians! I've just started on the master for the Lancia 3RO which will have the 90/53 on the back plus probably the standard truck and maybe General Electric Whiskers' caravan, so the Italians have their version of the Dorchester. Oh and possibly the 100/17 mounted on the back but that's some way away.

Would love to see some army shots too ?

I have to say it's Helen who keeps me supplied with a queue of oddities to build, particularly for the Italians! I've just started on the master for the Lancia 3RO which will have the 90/53 on the back plus probably the standard truck and maybe General Electric Whiskers' caravan, so the Italians have their version of the Dorchester. Oh and possibly the 100/17 mounted on the back but that's some way away.
John
Thanks John. I'm quite sure a number of folk enjoy collecting and painting these wonderful vehicles you design. Michael Perry who adds additional charm from your creations and Paul from Blitzkrieg who casts them for Perry Miniatures. We are very lucky and I thank you.
Cheers,
Helen

Hi Wolt, thanks for your kid words. I'll look to an army shot sometime next year. There is a stage in-which I wish to arrive at before starting the British.

Sorry for my tardiness, but have not been well since the New Year. I managed to finish off some models prior to the New Year. My collection continues as I enjoy the various models available for the two campaigns. Perry Miniatures with some conversions made to provide some character.
Thanks for looking.

More characterful additions. Very nice Helen. Particularly like the mini dioramas you’ve made with the M/C and sidecar models.

Lovely work as always Helen! :o

Thank you very much for your kind words. Over the coming months I will share additional work.
Cheers.

You know, your figure painting is lovely, but I feel the vehicle finish doesn't do justice to your obvious painting skills.
It just seems a bit 'flat'. Very neat and tidy, but I always think that vehicles at war will get dirty, scuffed up, chipped, damaged, and the effects of lighting and fading should be noticeable. Have you considered playing with an airbrush to do panel highlights, or zenithal lighting?

Thank you for your kind words and constructive comments. I'm more than happy with the results I wish to achieve. I look upon my painted collection as Toy Soldiers. I don't wish to go any further.
Thanks again.

After a six months painting hiatus it was time to get back to painting.
Blitzkrieg Model Sdkfz 231 with converted Perry Miniatures crewman. Note to oneself: Don't try and paint a crewman you have glued into the turret. :-(
A couple of touch-ups are required since the pics have been taken.

Is that the top half of the artillery spotter from the Pak 36 crew serving as the vehicle commander? :)

Thanks guys. Yes Richard he is that miniature. From what I read. German crews usually wear their webbing when in action.

John was very kind to supply myself with a tractor before sending the master to Michael Perry. I painted mine for Sicily.
The Perry model has the driver attached to the seat less seat mounted assy which is on the tractor.
A beautiful model and my ever grateful thanks to John and Michael.
Thanks for looking.

I've really enjoyed looking through your collection, fantastic variety of unusual vehicles, particularly interesting as so few people bother with the Italians. Please keep em coming :)

Hello again,
I'm always on the look-out for something different to do with WW2 Western Desert. I found a photo showing a Sdkfz 251 with a Pak 38 mounted on top. Now they mounted their Pak 38 less wheels, but I was not brave enough to do that so opted for the easier option. This vehicle was photographed in Tunisia 43.
Blitzkrieg Miniatures Sdkfz 251/c half-track, Perry Miniatures Pak 38 and assorted Perry Miniatures crew with one head conversion.
Thanks for looking.

Nice find and even better conversion! Didn‘t know the germans got that creative in the desert. Sort of an uparmed 251/10.

Thank you. Both sides in the desert way became creative, but more so the Axis.

Thank you very much. I'm sure it would have worked - look how quickly they rearmed the M3 halftracks with a variety of heavy weapons they captured from the US after Kasserine Pass.

I've been slowly painting up some new models for my Mediterranean collection. These two models are from Shapeway.
Rommel's funnies are the unusual vehicles that fought in the Western Desert. The Pz SFL.II -7.5 cm Kanone L/41 auf Zugkraftwagen 5t (HKP 902) is one of these vehicles. Two arrived in the desert and did their duty.
The other model is the Fiat 3000 Mod 21. Fought in a number of campaigns, but this one is for Sicily as part of Group Mobile H.

Bespoke Perry Miniatures DAK crew were used with some re-modification to make them fit into the fighting compartment.
My thanks to Lorenzo Bovi from Sicily for assisting in the registration number and positioning for the Fiat 3000.
As always, thanks ever so much for looking.

Really nice work. That half-track is a weird beast, it's pedigree must be interesting. Nice paint jobs - I love the green on the Fiat.

Thank you. Very kind of you to say. I found the Fiat 3000 a good price for the material used in printing.
