Sandman
Love the addition of real sand! Awesome work
-
Love it! But I always loved your 'Clix repaints!
Sandman is however really something special. ;)
-
Now that is fantastic!
-
Nice Repaints. Wish I could do that well! ;)
-
The Super Girl is some beautiful retro; Digging the old "S", but the Sandman repaint and retexture is just plain awesome :-*!
-
Dr. Octopus
-
Spiderman is going to be in real trouble!!
More great stuff Deano. :-*
-
Bullseye
-
Impressive! These minis have so much character drowned under a poor factory paint job. You make them really shine!
-
nice

Wow,
Nice paintjobs.
And apparently I need to get some heroclix models...

Bullseye is a hit!

Wow! Just amazing :o

nice work. How do you strip your clix? Does that simple green work?
THanks
-
I just paint over the original factory paint job, after cleaning off any mold lines
-
Very nice, crisp repaints. Cool stuff. :)
-
Brilliant work!
-
Professor Charles Xavier
-
Loving Prof. X
-
I agree i like the paint on Professor X
-
Impressive repaints, X looks great. Sandman is brilliant!
-
Oh, I do like the Professor. He came out great. Tornado Girl is cute.
-
Cyclops from the X-Men
-
Sweet paintjob, but dammit, now I'm looking on e-bay for heroclix models...
-
Great paintjob, I love the vibrant colours!

Yeah, when I see nicely painted models like these i get inspired to buy some of my own.
-
I wish they had released some unpainted versions of their lines.
That said, even with the previous thick paint they can paint up well... as Deano shows us :)

I sooooo agree. What would they have to lose? Why wouldn't they tap into that market? I'm befuddled by it. It would be so simple to do for them.
-
The market for people that want to pain them is much smaller than those for pre-paints. That said they are now expanding their D&D unpainted line. Maybe they will try the supers next.

These strip pretty easily, I use aceton and a ultrasonic cleaner. A 3 minute cycle removes most of the paint without affecting the plastic.

Neat, can you provide some more information on your technique, like the ultrasonic cleaner you use, if you use a brush, etc. ?
I tried acetone once or twice with mixed results, using a dip and toothbrush technique. I never was able to get them cleaned to the point I'd have been totally happy. I recall ruining a few as well, they got too soft and started abrading.

I use a simple cleaner I bought for cleaning my glasses - one like this: https://www.hansanders.be/nl/accessoires/brilreiniger/fc-33-ultrasoon-reiniger-2157437/
I put a small glass jar in the US water bath (a youghurt jar) that I fill with aceton and dump the clix in them for a cycle (without the dial bases). I wouldn't recommend putting the aceton direct into the bath itself.
Afterwards I use a toothbrush to scrub them a bit. I rinse them in water and usually go for a second cycle in fresh aceton. The first pass takes of most of the paint but dirties the aceton very quickly. FYI I let the dirty aceton settle and reuse the top fraction.
I do have the impression that the figures soften slightly, but the stiffen up again (probably when the aceton that has permeated the plastic evaporates). I have "ruined" one figure where the plastic started peeling of in layers (Siryn) - but that was when I was using a tootbrush and manual scrubbing.
I'll try to snap some pictures next time, so you have an idea of what to expect before you decide to buy a cleaner. I still use it for cleaning my glasses and my airbrush, I didn't buy it especially for stripping Clix.

Ah awesome idea. I wondered about that as I have a sonic cleaner but didn't want to put acetone into it.

Yeah they soften due to the acetone and harden back up once the acetone evaporates (which is generally quite fast). I don't think there's much to be done about the odd peeling unfortunately. I think it's something to with how some clix are glued together rather than any rough treatment on our end, I notice it more with figures that have glued on capes or more detailed textures. I've lost a Magneto to it (just re-purposed as a statue, luckily I have like 4 copies) and had to repair Scarlet Witch and resculpt parts of Groot. :(

Thanks for the information guys, appreciated.
Apologies to Deano for the thread hijack. It is your lovely painting which has inspired me to take a look at trying out some Heroclix again :)
Dr. Doom is one of my favorite villains, cool to see him get the treatment :)

Colossus from the X-Men.

Nice paint job, slightly bizarre pose.

Great figures again Deano!

DC's Huntress

Very good.

Lovely just lovely.
Thanks for sharing.
Troll

These are fantastic!
-
It's been a while since I painted one of these.....Dr. Strange
-
Wonder Woman
-
Two great additions! WW is brilliant and has an excellent 80s vibe.
I do like these sculpts a lot and your painting truly makes them shine.
-
Winter Soldier from Wizkids
-
you surely did them all justice.
-
I wish they had released some unpainted versions of their lines.

you can remove the paint from them. A few years ago I painted some 1st gen heroclix minis, and I was using acetone for this job. ANd it was really usefull to show up the details of the figures, wich are hidden under a thick coat of paint.
-
missed this thread.
brilliant stuff.
-
DC's Killer Croc from Wizkids (HeroClix repaint)
-
Say what you want, but your (excellent!) repaints made me realize just how good many of the Wizkid sculpts actually are when they are freed from their factory paintjobs.
Both Killer Croc as well as the girl with the cyberarm (Winter Soldier?) are very characterful models. IMO better than the super realistic ones produced today.

That is 90s early 2000s Heroclix and a lot of mini lines in general, WoTC were bad with some of the Star Wars line too, a lot of electric slide poses.
