As a person who loves that setting, I've bookmarked your blog. Great work so far!
-
Duh! I forgot to mark the blog also. >:(
Might want to post up every once in awhile on this post to let folks you have updated who do not use blogger.
-
Very interesting. The marauder article's use of the Walking Dead as examples is clever.
Must find my 20mm scale M1A2 Giraffe model...
-
As the late Abby Hoffman is alleged to have said: 'It makes me feel nostalgic for the future'. Actually that's a pretty cool blast from the past. A mate of mine at school was heavily into Twilight 2000. Nice to see there are still fans out there.
-
TW2000 was one of the first RPGs I played as a teen. Still have a few of the rules.

Like a marauder (the most recent blog post), I have almost all the T2k books at this point. I've run the game using the GURPS (roleplaying system) in the past.
Excellent typology on the marauders and accessible even if someone hasn't watched the Walking Dead.
-
When someone wants to buy the rules, have a look at rpgnow. Selling all the version 1,2 and 3. company is still Games Designer Workshop. Also all the old Challenge-Magazins are avaible.
-
Just wanted to remind folks this is a going concern, and we have posted quite a bit since this post originally went up!

For the folks looking for the rules, check out Far Future Enterprises...
A hard-copy of the main rules plus the first four adventures in one book for $35 (http://www.farfuture.net/hardcopy.html).
A CD with everything for the 1st Edition of the game (or 2nd or 3rd), also $35 (http://www.farfuture.net/cdroms.html).
I recently ordered the CD, it is worth every penny.

As people have requested, I am letting people know more has posted, and some has updated, so keeping people apprised.

Well, after extensive archaeological research and painstaking excavation I found my model of the M1A2 Giraffe tank.

As a model, it is not particularly good, and the finish has suffered a bit from being in storage for more than twenty years.

Looks great, thanks for sharing! I always wondered what it would look like as a model, just need a LAV-75 now! ;)
-
The LAV-75 is more complicated, there is no donor chassis (and very little information).
This was interesting:

The variant with the Stryker turret might be fun.
Maybe if I ask Empress Miniatures nicely they could supply an MGS turret and one (and a half?) sets of M113 track units?
I did wonder if they would do one of their M1A1 kits at a discount without a turret but with the rest of the bits. Hopefully I could make a better job now, and in 28mm.

That's friggin awesome

Man, does this bring back memories! T2K was the second RPG I played, and it's always tempting to attempt to return to it...looking forward to your blog posts!

Thanks for the positive comments.
Anyone any ideas on suitable figures for 28mm games?

I think The Assault Groups (increasing misnamed) 'Ultra Modern' range is about the right period.
http://tagminis.co.uk/product-category/ultra-modern/
And Empress sell a line of Chetchen war minis that might have some appropriate Russians
http://www.empressminiatures.com/userimages/procart37.htm
Eureka do '1980s' Russians in and out of NBC suits

-
The Copplestone Future Wars range has some usable minis I think. The Scavengers in particular should make for excellent Marauders.
-
I will have a look at the TAG figures.
I have a pack of the Empress Chechnya Russians, I will have a look.
-
If someone would do a 28mm review article, I will put it up on the blog. I just do not feel very qualified to write it as well, I have never built a 28mm Army....
-
Added quite a bit more to the blog, some news, some reviews of plastic kits, mostly in 1/72 scale....and more content is coming.
-
Love you blog, thanks for the link to the blog with that Third World War 1987 Timeline. I guess you already know this mockumentary?
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/World_War_III_(film)
World War III (Der Dritte Weltkrieg) is a 1998 German television mockumentary, directed by Robert Stone and distributed by ZDF. An English version, in collaboration with The Learning Channel, was made as well. It depicts what might have transpired if, following the overthrow of Mikhail Gorbachev, Soviet troops, under orders from a new hard-line regime, had opened fire on demonstrators in Berlin in the fall of 1989 and precipitated World War III. The film mixes real footage of world leaders and archive footage of (for example) combat exercises and news events, with newly shot footage of citizens, soldiers and political staff.

Have posted even more to the blog. It's trucking along and as I find more to talk about, I will discuss more, as long as people read, I will write.

Congratulations on the upcoming marriage!

Just letting folks here know that there has been a lot more posted on the blog, including a weathering and stowage article for vehicles.

Hello all, I know I have not posted here in a while, but the blog has added a lot, including a new staff writer. Please come on by and have a look!

I like your blog. What is the best T2K-like rules for skirmish and or platoon action?
-
I don't have so much a favorite, as a rundown of potential rules that are out there.

Hmmm very interesting! We played a lot of TW2K in the day. I had those 20mms plastic NATO paratrooper figures.
This thread has got me looking at it again. Maybe 15mms this time though.
-
As I promised, much has been added and I am keeping people apprised, so come on by and visit sometime.

Interesting stuff, though from posts here Mike Bravo is MIA.

I am working on some of the Under Fire figures mentioned at the moment (Soviet, DDR, Bundeswehr).

Damn Twilight 2000, you'll be doing Price of Freedom next...
Very interesting

Hello all, just thought I would put the word out, am working on a two part article on "Paint Schemes of the Third World War", the NATO half is up and it has value to ALL miniatures gamers. Plus, I'd welcome advice/errata/corrections and the like.
-
Interesting read, thanks.
The colour matches are especially useful.
Choosing the base schemes is difficult, as you point out GDW were writing about stuff ten plus years in the future. If you compare the colour plates with the contemporary Osprey Vanguard they are very similar.
I am using paint schemes from the end of the Cold War (Tankograd Keyflight '89 for BAOR and Bold Sparrow '89 for Bundeswehr) and the Osprey books of the late eighties (Tank War: Central Front, NATO, Warsaw Pact and Soviet Armies "Today").
I also have the Tankograd Berlin Infantry Brigade book.
The Bold Sparrow book shows some interesting field camouflage patterns (which may or may not be mud).
British vehicles might be base green, the camouflage pattern does not seem to have been applied to all vehicles. There are forum members who will have recollections of that period.
-
Bottom left for field camouflage.

Hi there,
We're featuring an article on Twilight:2000 as a PA setting in an upcoming issue but we'd love more on the idea of Cold War Gone Hot gaming - if either of you gents fancied getting in touch and putting something together for us, please PM me.
-
Great blog post Ultra. Looking forward to seeing your under fire mins painted up.
-
There has been a lot of activity on the blog! We've reached and crossed the 100 posts mark, and we're still going strong! So come on down and take a look!
-
Two new posts after a bit of a hiatus in July! We have a 20mm army by one of our readers which is inspirational, to say the least. The second is an article on the main theatre of the conventional phase of the Twilight War, and it's chock full of scenario ideas.
-
Advent Crown looks interesting, thanks for that.
-
Thanks for the link, I am now reading through your blog.
-
I know this thread hasn't been posted in for a while, and I can see the 500 Miles from the German Border Blog has been silent since mid-May, but I'm curious if anyone has found a solo gaming rule set that works well for a Twilight 2000, WWIII style setting. I'm interested in running this in 20mm, with vehicles on the table as well as some rules for off-table indirect fire support. Any wisdom on the subject would be appreciated.
-
Might be worth looking at Zona Alfa.
-
Respondents to this thread may be interested to know I've convinced someone with a budding 3d resin printing business to make an M8 AGS that will be produceable in any scale from 1:285 up to 1:50.
I've ordered 4 in 1:100 for my Team Yankee army as M551 proxies, when I get them I'll upload some pics in a new thread and share the contact details. With enough interest I'm sure he'd be open to producing other stuff like the Cadillac-Gage Stingray.
-
Interesting.
-
500 Miles isn't dead folks, just a bit slower these days as a lot of 15mm SciFi and other projects are taking up my time, but that said...more is a coming. CookAndrewB and Cypher226, send me what you all have. Believe me, I can always use the article fodder.
-
@Panzerfaust 150 - I'll chase up with my contact :D
-
Probably easier for me to email at this point. I'm in the middle of painting up my forces, but I have a good amount of terrain done so far.
