After a long time of waiting I got most of my kickstarter pledge in last year. I started with my resin figures of the so-called "Stalker" Alien - basicly the monster out of the Alien 3 movie. The paintjob is inspired by Agis' stunning work on his Alien figures, as seen HERE on his website (http://www.adpublishing.de/html/avp.html)
I also used his receipe and followed it completely. As some variety can never be wrong, I went with the brownish scheme for those models. Somehow I don't want to have an all "glossy black" Alien army. lol
Just like Agis I didn't want to use the lipped bases Prodos supplies the models with and used 2mm thick laser-cut plywood bases found cheaply on eBay instead. Thinking of LV-426 or other colonies the bases got a rocky grey colour pattern which really makes the models stand out. Gloss varnish spray from Revell and an extra thick coat of Citadel's 'Ard Coat for the heads finished off the overall effect I was looking for.
10 done, 10 more to do. 8)

They look amazing! The bases look perfect as well. Did you have much trouble cleaning mold line off these?

No, not really. The resin is sturdy enough to withstand handling the miniatures for game purposes but is also smooth enough to be easily cleaned off any mold lines - of which at least my Kickstarter minis have barely any.
-
Looks great!

AT LAST!!!
Great start - I looking for what else to come from your alien breeding chamber... :D

The "Warrior" Aliens are one of the expansions of Prodos Games' AVP "The Hunt Begins" boardgame. When I pledged on kickstarter, I got myself 3 packs of these fine miniatures. I went for a classic, dark and metallic look on those. A little wash with a blue glaze (strongly thinned down) on top of the usual Nuln Oil gave them a nice finishing touch. Gloss varnish of Revell out of a spray can did the rest. 👍

Very nice indeed

Lovely painting.

Somehow I like the technique involved! ;)
Great JOB!

They look fantastic! Great paint job.

Fantastic stuff all round! :-* its surprising we accept the look of gloss varnish on Alien miniatures, but any other Wargames miniatures it somehow doesn't look right!

Somehow I like the technique involved! ;)
Great JOB!
I am learning from the masters of painted lead (and resin!) ;)

LOL!

Lt. Linn Kurosawa ended up at my home despite being never purchased or pledged for. She was accidently packed into my delivery. Guess I was lucky! ;)
She is a character of an old Capcom Arcade game and somehow reminds me of Street Fighter's Chun-Li - but with a Katana blade. I painted her to represent her appearance in that title.

The Lieutenant is a cool cross over of a (Terminator 2) Sarah Connor and Amelia Pond to my eyes. However I spot a sort of female body armour that obviously wasnīt available to Vasquez... :D

Major "Dutch" Schaefer finished and based. I only need to apply matt varnish. Muzzle Flash and base topper parts from Anvil Industries.

My Sergeant from North Star Models LLC is finished. He was a test model for the paint scheme. Not 100% satisfied yet, but with more practise it's going to be better on the next miniatures. The sculpt on this one is a bit rought (face!) but otherwise I kind of like these figures. The Pulse Rifle with open grenade launcher breach looks weird. The other Marines' rifles have closed ones, just like you would expect a M41A to look like. 8)

Prodos hasn't released any other Colonial Marines as those included in core game (KS version and retail, as well as version 2.0 with single piece miniatures) so far. In the rulebook for "Unleashed" the Marines are given the option to field support squads. The options come straight from the 2001 PC game "Alien VS Predator 2".
These can either consist of M-90 Minigun or M-6B Rocket Launcher toting personnel. Since there is no appropriate miniatures for either of the options yet I had to kitbash a little.
With the Terminator Genisys Resistance boxed set I got myself 16 miniatures that aren't exactly Colonial Marines, but they got some nice poses and can easily be converted. I used two of the bodies and the missile launcher parts, put some green stuff in place to sculpt a more appropriate looking M3 Body Armor and placed a few plastic strips here and there to get the look I wanted. Then I did a head swap with some North Star Models LLC Colonial Marines.
The M-6B Rocket Launcher looks a little like a modern day FIM-92 Stinger MANPAD, so the parts from the Terminator Genisys Resistance boxed set were fitting nicely.
AVP Wiki article on M-6B Rocket Launcher (http://avp.wikia.com/wiki/M-6B_Rocket_Launcher)

The base toppers are once again from Anvil Industries. I can't stress enough how superb there resin parts are! I use GW texture paint to blend the resin in with the base' surface.

Great conversion!
And somehow I really like the bases too...
;)
-
Nice painting (guessing the conversion too - but I'm not familar with all the bits you used).
-
Nice conversions!
I've had my eye on those North Star Models Marines for some time now, how well do they fit in (size, proportions) with the Prodos Marines from the version 1 game?
I've heard that the Marines from the 2.0 release are much smaller than the 1.0 ones. Are they even worth getting to expand my Marine force?
-
They are a bit chunky compared to Prodos' Marines, but fit otherwise nicely. The 2.0 Marines are significantly smaller. Proportions are Ok, as no two humans are the same, but their weapons also are smaller which looks stupid next to a KS version miniature.
-
Good progress was being made through the recent days and my Missile Support Squad is finally finished. Apart from the two missile launchers I was showing you a few days ago, two more Marines have now been added. AVP: Unleashed asks for a minimum squad size of five models, so I was wondering what to do with them. I could have gone with just two random grunts, but that isn't really something special, is it?
Going through my spare parts I was fishing two more of North Star's "not" Colonial Marines out of a plastic bag. Looking at them, I found out they were supposed to carry shoulder-slung M240 incinerator units and therefore had a shoulder-strap sculpted on them already. My two missile launcher toting Marines each do only carry the actual launchers with a rocket tube, but no spare ammo. So, the idea was born that the two latest additions will be carrying more missiles in tubes over their shoulders. The idea came from modern day US Marine Corps' SMAW units.
Even though both of the latest models are having the same body, I used different arms on them and different heads. One carries a Motion tracker, too. Playing around with Anvil Industries' muzzle flashes, I decided to add one to a pulse rifle. It came out so good, there is going to be more of them!
The base toppers are as usual also from Anvil Industries. Note the pack of cigarettes on the one base, a really nice detail!
The missile tubes are without the launching module. Just like it is done in modern day squads, the parts for such heavy weapons are distributed throughout the squad members, so everybody carries about equal weight. I added protection caps to both ends of the tubes, so it doesn't get damaged when the squad is moving around. In my imagination, the caps would be pulled off, the tube then locked into the launcher module and can then be fired. The protection caps in fact are even being made of 1/72 scale end pieces of a M-47 Dragon ATGW launcher. The tubes themselves are Q-tips cut to fit the the correct length of my Missile Launcher Marines' weapon modules As you can see, some heavy engineering went into these chaps. :D
More pics as usual in my B L O G (http://'https://smallscaleoperations.blogspot.de/2017/10/avp-unleashed-uscm-missile-support.html')

Great results as always Sarge.
Keep up the great work. Always love looking st your work, be they troops or aliens or giant stomp robots. LOL
Curious on scale though. If this gas been covered someone point me that way.
But how do these Aliens compare disease to the Alien Clix? Noticeable or they mix well enough?

@ Grimm: thanks. I'll post a size comparison on Sunday. :)

Some new models have arrived at my house this week. More specifically a Predator Drone (as seen in Predators), two Colonial Marines Sergeants, a custom-built Machiko Noguchi human Predator and Predastore's "Victory Hunter", who will be turned into a "Tracker".
Predastore of Swiss is selling custom sculpts and until a few months ago still had a large range of not-Predators in their webstore. Nowadays you still might find some in retail stores or on ebay.
The Predator Drone is a custom sculpt from a nice chap who made his own and was able to recast it a few times. I got my hands on one of the copies.
Machiko Noguchi was built by a friend and I will paint her. The miniature is based upon Valerie Duval from Prodos' Warzone range and got kit-bashed with the Female Predator figure and some other parts to create the not yet released (if Prodos ever will!) Machiko. The character had a series of novels and comic books dedicated to her adventures.
The Sergeants are the standard version that was available to order during the KS campaign.

I finished my Machiko Noguchi miniature that was built by a talented man in NL (thanks, Bauke!). Turned out quite nicely.
If I want to field her with the human faction in "Unleashed" I will need some Colonists. Maybe in the future, we'll see.
More pics in my blog, as always.
-
Great stand in for Machiko! I wonder if Prodos will do an official model someday. Theoretically they do hold the license to do so. However yours look perfectly perfect! :D
-
GREAT Machiko! I always liked her in the comics...
Together with the base it is almost a mini diorama! :)
-
10 more Warriors, because... ehm, you can't have enough of them, can you? lol

I started working on my second Marine Support Squad. This time with M90 Miniguns. The bodies are from North Star LLC's range of figures, the Miniguns (modified) from Warlord Games' limited run "Terminator Genisys Resistance Command Squad" box made from resin.

Wow, you really mean to deploy USCM according to the UNLEASHED rules...! :o
Now that I got them too, I start to think about a stand in for the Alien monstrosity - perhaps some very large īNid from Nottingham.
-
Looks good, I am very curious how they will look next to the Prodos out of the Box Marines.

They aren't hero scale of something. They appear to be a little more chunky, but have the same size otherwise. I like using them as "support squad" type of Marines, as they have for example no shin armour (only knee pad). I figured, since they are carrying the heavier stuff and have more range, they go a little lighter on protection. At least that is MY justification. ;)

North star have converted them from Forgeworld Elysians by the look of things - that might give you an idea of size. Lovely conversions by the Sgt too!

Hi, thanks a lot for the nice feedback. Currently there won't be progress on any project I am working on for the next five to six weeks. Once I am done with moving into my new place, I will update the threads with new material.

After I got my hands on the Advanced Combat Deck file that the playtesters of Prodos received during development of the game that now sadly went out of production, I had a go with them and created additional Resource Cards like those depicted in the rule book.
After a bit of work finding the right size to fit Prodos Games' card style and measurements I started a first print run. Here are my results with more details to follow.
Two decks to give both players one each.
I have chosen to use different card backs so that the Advanced Combat Deck and the Resource Deck can be told apart from each other easily.
(https://www.bilder-upload.eu/thumb/ab92b7-1557578755.jpg) (https://www.bilder-upload.eu/bild-ab92b7-1557578755.jpg.html)
Thickness of the card and measurements are exactly like the original game cards from Prodos.
(https://www.bilder-upload.eu/thumb/dc9629-1557578812.jpg) (https://www.bilder-upload.eu/bild-dc9629-1557578812.jpg.html)
Resource Cards in the style of the Unleashed rule book example. The deck comes with 15.
(https://www.bilder-upload.eu/thumb/558138-1557578905.jpg) (https://www.bilder-upload.eu/bild-558138-1557578905.jpg.html)
The Advanced Combat Deck. 40 completely unique cards that are a mix of tactical, gear and equipment for either all or specific factions as determined by the symbols.
(https://www.bilder-upload.eu/thumb/7e210a-1557578976.jpg) (https://www.bilder-upload.eu/bild-7e210a-1557578976.jpg.html)
Each deck has a total of 55 cards and a protective case.

Which rules do you use? The original or the boardgame or others?

AVP Unleashed by Prodos Games.

Excellent container! AT-43 I suppose?

Excellent container! AT-43 I suppose?
Exactly. Got some tank containers from Siku inbound, too. Dropship got to refuel somewhere, doesn't it?
-
Nice collection of bits and bobs. How did you do the WY logo on the container? It looks great.
Funny thing happened to me yesterday, out of the blue I received a package from Poland, sent by Archon Studio, Within was the box of multipart colonial marines I was missing from my AVP kickstarter pledge and a collection of spare heads and arms, although these are repetitions of the ones in the multipart marine box rather than anything new.
Still, it seems that my pledge has finally been fulfilled after all this time. Funny way to do business.
The figs are nice, great detail, unfortunately I had folded and bought a box already when they were on offer at the LFGS, so this new box is surplus.
As nice as the figs are, I'd still think long long and hard before having any direct dealings with Prodos/Archon again.

Cut out a template from sticky tape with some hobby knife and stuck it to the surface. Then with a pencil I marked the outline of the letters and painted it with my smaller brushes after removing the template. I could have kept it in place, but I wanted to use the template again.
