Great idea and great thread.
I would however call the LotOW games not only Hollywood, but also historical. They do try and tried not to mix too crazy stuff together and have nice sections about the historical west.
Also the subsequent books in that line included larger fights, sieges with companies and real hollywood style.
Nevertheless thanks for starting this!

Are you wanting just skirmish games, or other types of games as well?
For example, I have been binge-painting Western figures for over a month now for Shadows of Brimstone, but it is a board game, not a traditional miniatures game.
-Michael
-
I'd say miniatures games only since that's really the aim of the forum - a way to lead new players to available rules.
-
Dont know much about it but theres 'Gutshot'.
-
Yeah I was going to add Gutshot but their page is down and their blog doesn't have much on it - so I don't recall the price or if it's currently available, etc.

(Disclaimer: I own the rules, but have never played them, but from a read through of them they look like a hell of a lot of fun, especially for convention games.)
-
Yeah I was going to add Gutshot but their page is down and their blog doesn't have much on it - so I don't recall the price or if it's currently available, etc.
I have a few copies at the bargain price of £10 + postage (pm or email me). Or pick them up at upcoming shows:
Overlord Abingdon; Legionary Exeter; Attack Devizes; Colours; Warfare.
Doug
-
If anyone has the info needed for the following, let me know - I don't own them and I'm not going to go trying to find all the pertinent stuff, as I'm sure someone here has a copy!
Gutshot
Blackwater Gulch
Wild West Exodus
Six Gun Sound (?)
Tombstone (coming soon from Black Scorpion so I don't know how much info is really available)
-
I have Gutshot and Blackwater Gulch, but right now have stacks of K-cups and Kurig type coffee machines blocking access to my book shelves.
:?
If no one else posts the info before I can get these piles of boxes out of here I'll dig them out and get the info.

Hawgleg seems to be recovering:

The rules will be in a nice box set that contains a hardcover rulebook, deck of Loot Cards, custom tokens for objective markers and damage, and some fancy dice.
There will also be a free "just the rules" pdf.. the free rules will be part of our generic "Gangfight Skirmish Rules" that let you use the same exact rules for all different kinds of genres & settings. BWG is just the first official printed Gameworld Ruleset.

Rules: Gunslinger 1982, from The Avalon Hill Game Company
Type (Hollywood, Historical, Weird?): Historical
Cost: Out of Print (find old copies on eBay, Consimworld, BoardGameGeek)
PDF or Book?: 1982 old cardboard wargame, rules, cardboard tokens, cards, maps
Miniatures Needed: maximum of 7 miniatures for player characters in the game
Table Size Suggested: originally hex maps, but could expand and play without hexes using modifications
Currently available?: No, out-of-print, but many copies printed, so available via eBay, Consimworld, BoardGameGeek
Supported by a miniature line?: No.
Website: On BoardGameGeek: https://www.boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/1044/gunslinger
This is not merely the most exciting western gunfight game that I've ever played, but is also the most exciting game of interpersonal combat of any type that I've ever played. Players choose actions via a set of actions available in a hand of cards. Each turn represents 2 seconds of real time, and each turn has 5 increments of time representing 0.4 seconds. Different actions take different numbers of increments of time, and this may vary depending on the speed of the gunfighter.
Players can choose to accumulate aim points that improve the odds of hitting. Shots are resolved by pulling cards from a deck. The game has a set of hex maps which include many different building interiors. The cardboard pieces for characters are round, so they look like miniature bases, and miniatures can easily be substituted. Would not be too hard to convert the game to use regular miniatures terrain with distance measurements and no hexes.
Very detailed and realistic game, more so than what most miniatures players want to deal with. But the payoff is much more tension and excitement for the players. I've seen this game taught to a group of 7 players in about 10 to 15 minutes at a convention. So it can be learned quickly from a teacher. In my opinion, a masterpiece.

We loved Gunslinger back in the day. Great game.

The rules I wrote a few years back:
Rules: Tombstones n' Tumbleweeds (aka TnT) (Precis Intermedia)
Type (Hollywood, Historical, Weird?): Hollywood & Historical (but more Hollywood)
Cost: $4.95 (US)

Table Size Suggested: 3' x 3' min.
Currently available?: Yes

Heavily inspired by movies like Rio Bravo and Leone's "Man with No Name" series, and games like Necromunda, I tried to make a fun, flexible, fast-moving game with a character-driven foundation. I'd like to think I succeeded, at least partially...

Added the last couple - this is probably suitable for pinning at the behest of the moderators.

Added the last couple - this is probably suitable for pinning at the behest of the moderators.
You're so right - thanks for the good idea and work involved! :)
-
Just a few potential additions, which i assume to be eligible:
Ruga-Ruga Publications (i.e. Chris Peers) have a set called The Law of the Gun, which claims to be suitable for both historical and Hollywood-style games. It is available from North Star in the UK.
Boot Hill, while a RPG, is valued by many. I only know of it from various posts on this site, so am not sure why it has not been mentioned here. Published by TSR, now out of print, and expensive on eBay.
The original wild west - and original skirmish - game, The Old West Skirmish Wargames: Wargaming Western Gunfights, has recently been republished by The History of Wargaming Project, and is available from Lulu.
I'm afraid I have no personal experience with any of these, so cannot supply all of the info required for the database.

In addition to these well-established Old West rules I would like to draw your attention to my own developed Western Skirmish game named “Shootout in Dingstown”.
Some initial information can be found at https://www.facebook.com/dingstownstory/ while the website www.dingstown.de is still under development.
Up to four players will lead their gangs with up to eight miniatures each into a quick and bloody firefight.
The basic rules are simple but can be extended by using optional special rules.
I intend to publish the rules in summer 2018 as a book, the price will be around EUR 24 and the game can be played with all ranges of miniatures.
The game will be presented for the first time at Tactica in Hamburg on February 24th & 25th, 2018. Hope to see some of you there!

Knuckleduster is updating the Desperado rule set to their own version, called Gunfighter's Ball. Published book hasn't been released yet, but the basic rules for the game are available to download for free. Gunfighter's Ball Judges Guide will hopefully be released soon.

I was introduced to Skirmish Wargames Old West by a friend, sadly now passed (Brian Povey).
The world that Mike 'Botch' Blake, Kid Caldwell & Long Hair Steve Curtis opened up for me was, and still is fantastic.
From the first game when one of the players kicked open an outside privy, only to get a gut full of
lead from a leMatt, to my youngest brother being so enamoured with the idea of a 7 barrelled
volley gun that he (aged 9) converted a Britain's figure using plastic rod. in its first game it did serious damage to my veteran gunfighter. So many wounds we stopped recording them.
A friend was introduced to the fun, wanted his own posse, but was embarrassed to shop for 'toys'
I agreed to accompany him to the shop, his 'cover story' was to be they were for his 'nephew'...
Two minutes in & the whole shop could hear his high pitched screams of, "oooh! oooh! I want that one!!!" & " Can I have one of him? and and and one of him & two of them!!!"......
Cover well & truly blown.

Thanks has-been. Great to read those stories .

I am looking for a simple [and I mean simple] set of rules, Indians vs US Cavalry.
I really need some help here. A nice set could be The men who would be kings. But I would appreciate any other idea or set please. Old West is not exclusively cow boys and outlaws right?

My skirmish rules "Shootout in Dingstown" are designed in a quite simple way (basic rules) with optional special rules. They are only available in German language.
