Some of you may have seen my posts in the thread about the new Striker! football rules (or soccer if you are from my side of the pond). I though I would start a new thread instead of clogging up the other one with my shameful self-promotion.
Anyway, I am producing a set of 28mm football players and they are nearing completion. There are 5 player bodies, 1 goalkeeper body, 10 separate heads with various hairstyles, and a ball. They are digitally sculpted and will most likely be cast in metal (still a bit up in the air). At the moment I am working out details with the caster.
Here are a few pics of one of my test models and the poses (not all of the heads are shown). I am not sure what the price will be yet, but a team will include 11 models (10 players and a goalkeeper), and two head sprues (20 heads and 2 balls). Once things are firmed up a bit I will have more info about ordering. I may do a small Kickstarter to get things going as well.
Thanks for looking!

Those are very nice indeed! I could see myself buying a team. I can see an aftermarket opportunity producing decals. Club badges, numbers and sponsors' logos. You'll need a ref and a couple of managers.
-
They look very nice indeed, good luck with your project. I think it will be a flyer for you. :)

But you'd have to repaint them every season, and repaint the managers every six months ;)

Yeah, it's the curse of moderns multiplied by a factor of four. You've reminded me why I went away from them and back to historical armies. lol
Right, do bigger hair and shorter shorts, cos if I'm going to do history it's going to be classic Flamengo circa 1980-83 when God played for us and we were unbeatable.
-
Very nice mate and the excellent paint job only makes them more appealing. I'd definitely be interested in a set.
-
I got to see these in the flesh today at our club meeting, they are really VERY nice!
-
Just got my youngest daughter a (Subbuteo) Barca team for her birthday, to play Striker lol
-
Gorgeous paint job - the line in the grass is a cool touch.
I like the poses in the sculpts - nice variety but not too animated (over-animated kinda limits what positions you can play them in - i.e a winger in full-flight looks like a winger, not a central defender...)
I reckon I'd be in for a team or two
-

Hehehehe you always pop in with the best one-liners. lol
The figures look great.
-
Very nice indeed. Though like Carlos I would need them in 80s short tight shorts, so I can do my footballing heroes Sócrates and Phil Stant. :)
Shorts these days have got as long as they were in the 50s. What's the world coming to? Fashion sense has gone all to pot. ;D
-
Those tight shorts give me the creeps. lol
-
I don't disagree, especially when worn by middle aged men out jogging, however the look is look and your punters demand this:
-
Tell you what, if these guys sell well enough I will do a set of creepy short pants players as well ;)
-
That's a deal!
-
:o This is all sorts of awesome! I'd definitely be in for at least 4 to 6 squads. I'll be following this thread closely :D
-
Are you going to do/offer the fields as well? What about goals?
-
I do have a vinyl field mat that I made recently. Most people seem to use Subbuteo fields since these games (e.g. Striker!, Corner Kick) seem to use similar dimensions. They seem hard to get over here in Canada but I imagine maybe it is easier in the UK etc. Same goes for goals, but I am working on building some so I will try and do a post about how to make them.
-
Cool. I assume you will sell balls as well. Interested in a demo game at some point (as you are local), as I have the option to try before I buy.
Cmon you reds... :)
-
Yep there will be a ball included with the team. I will try and arrange a demo once I have all the stuff!
-
Hey Mark - I would like to join you in that demo
Go Red Devils!!

Great so we have 2 players and a ref. When your ready Mr Watts we will do this. :)
-
Deal!
-
Good news - the final 3D files were delivered today! Now, off to the printer...
-
Good news. Definitely count me as interested.
-
How do they scale against other figures (there was a marketing crossover in the 'sixties an 'seventies for leading football players to appear in comics etc - similar to the Harlem Globetrotters TM), I was wondering if they had use outside of football games (Aggro being another possibility).
-
They are 28mm to the eye, but they are more realistic in proportions than some of the other soccer ranges (ie. not quite as chunky).
-
Any update? I am really looking forward to these!!
-
Sorry for the long delay - the summer has been so busy!
I have all the prints ready to go to the caster (I had to have them redone because of some quality issues). I am planning do do a very simple Kickstarter soon to help with the casting costs.
BTW I set up a Facebook page if you want to keep up to date there as well: https://www.facebook.com/wattsminico/
Thanks!
-
Just brilliant!! :o :o :o
Following the Facebook page now as well! Will be all about that Kickstarter when it goes live :D
-
Thanks! One this weekend is over I will have time to get things rolling again.
-
Good to hear - hope your summer was good!! From all the pictures, it looked like it was!
-
So?
Any new?

Finally on the way to the caster for mold making!
Getting the 3D printed masters ready was a bit of an ordeal - I haD one part break on me and I had to fix up some of the joins for the legs but hopefully everything should be fine now.
After the molds are ready I will be doing the production run. I am still considering doing a Kickstarter to help pay for this. I have it mostly set up but I need to figure out some logistics for shipping etc.
-
I hadn't seen these before, but they do look very nice indeed.
Being in Australia, it's not too easy getting local gamers into a football (soccer) minis game; a sort of airborne version of rugby is very much the thing for the sports-inclined 'round these parts... :(
I have a bunch of 54mm plastic players I've considered painting up for Corner Kick, but if this new range becomes available soon, I might hold off; a range in 28mm will work better on a Subbuteo pitch, and if they're available to all, maybe I might convert some in my club to the round ball game. :)

How's the project going? Something that might interest those looking at these figures and the rules sets that are available striker, corner kick and the beautiful game that I know of is these pitches available from a company called astrobase they sell products for subbuteo including pitches and more importantly they sell some without the shooting line that's used for subbuteo here's an example this one is available in full subbuteo size and a a smaller size €40 and €20 and they have the mown lawn patterns too
-
Cool, thanks for the info.
Models are at the casters having the molds made. More info soon.

Any updates on these figures?

Cheers

Sincere apologies for the lack of updates. The casting process took much longer than I had hoped, mostly due to the holidays. But good news, the test castings will be here soon (I am expecting them this week).
Thanks for that link! I will check it out.
-
Nice!!!!
My wife (from the same town as Zidane) would even let me buy a set or two of these!
FC Red Bull Salzburg (my old hometown) vs. Real Madrid!
Have you considered making a special pair of figures of Zidane headbutting that Italian guy?
-
No but I would like to see that conversion :D
-
Don't go there. It will merely spark a wave of folk demanding a figure of Suárez eating an opponent or team mate or even chomping down on a whole plane full of crash survivors. Uruguiaos are odd people.
-
What about the Brazilian team of 8 July 2014? Will be good to see the tears on 28mm miniatures :D

As this is a German forum I won't provide the requisite answer but if you are interested in a short but instructive course in, what we might call earthy but popular Portuguese, I am quite happy to provide it.
The German victory has been, correctly, attributed to them wearing the right colours in the wrong stadium. ;)

Good news everyone!

Ordering info coming soon!
-
Seperate head system!!!! Bless your heart lol
You can take my money anytime you'd like :D
-
Almost there...
Here is the team. You will get 11 players (10 players and one goalkeeper) and 2 head sprues. Just figuring out the cost and I'll be ready to take pre-orders next week!

Lovely! The one second from the right looks remarkably like that twat CR10. Definitely more so than recent public statues fifty times the size. :)
I think I shall inevitably weaken. If you do some more head sprues at a future point, could we have some more African looking heads please?
-
Now available! Thank you all for your patience as I figured this whole thing out.
I am doing pre-orders until February 24th at a special price of $25 CAD per team. For more info please see the post in the Commercial section:

Just ordered six squads :D Can't wait to get them!
Cheers!
Ivor
-
My first order - thank you!!
-
Thank you!! Really looking forward to these :D
I'm thinking now though I probably should have ordered another 1 or 2 squads for substitutes - if I do decide to do that can I shoot you an email and add them to my order after doing a seperate payment?
-
Sure - no problem.
-
Ordered 6 teams just now!!
Marco
-
I've extended the pre-order special till then end of the week! Last day for the special will be Friday March 2nd.
-
Any updates?
-
Just waiting on the order to be shipped to me - should be any day now. I'll try to get an eta today.
-
Did these become available? I have tried the links but get a page can't be found.
-
I was informed that first casts were not satisfying. So Watts is trying to solve the problem. Maybe.
In the meantime he refunded who placed a preorder.

It's too bad Watts had trouble. For what it's worth I'd still like to pounce on a few teams. I hope there are still plans to produce these.
