Workbench / Re: [WIP] Building of Ruins of Mordheim modular table

Very innovative and looking good!  Have you attached any other materials underneath your foil rug to support it so it does not deform under its own weight or through handling?
Thank you. :) It's a metal plate, if you don't use force, it won't deform.
Oh I get it... man I'm dense, you pressed the pattern into the metal sheet... when you said you cut with carving tools, I went literal...  ;D
Yes, these are misunderstandings resulting from the use of a translator. :)

Age of the Big Battalions / Re: ACW rules help

I have forces similar to what you describe and I think Black Powder and Valour & Fortitude work fine, just keep your brigade sizes small. I would go for 3 regiments rather than 5. For Black powder just increase the point at which a brigade breaks. For V&F use second edition, they are kinder to the smaller table / army.

I recently gave the Perry Valour & Fortitude ACW rules a spin and did a write up on my blog, which may be of interest.

For a One Hour Wargame scenario from Neil Thomas, last week I put down a 6 units V’s 3 unit game of napoleonics on a 4x4 with 28mm. That also has its own blog report.

Absolutely fantastic! I love your game! I recognize some of the figures from Col. Bill's, but most of them I don't think I've seen. Where did you find them?

Age of Myths, Gods and Empires / Re: Hail Caesar Epic (12mm)

It would be quite interesting if they expand the war as the period has a lot of excellent battles of different armies that would allow.

I've noted though that some folks were quite disappointed that they didn't expand the Napoleonic range to, for example, include the Austrians.

So we will have to wait and see.

These projects are huge investments and the reality is they just can’t do everything up front. I think you will see a number of starter sets that cross a range of interests to build up an Epic following. The period expansions can then fit in over the future of the company, as surely Epic will be the company’s cash cow that will help future sustainability.

Saturation and diminishing returns will also be a factor. If for example the Napoleonic French / British / Prussian starter sets were a huge success and sold 20,000 each, with that done, how many sets would an Austrian (say) sell? Unlikely to be the same or as good as the first armies.

I can see them covering new topics for a while yet.

Can't recall what basing was involved but many years ago, a group of us used to play On To Richmond a bit. Perversely we tended to use it mostly for non ACW encounters. I do reacll it being fairly simple, reasonably fast playing and giving an enjoyable game. Deffo less complex than its near contemporaries like Johnny Reb, FoF etc.

Fantasy Adventures / The Other, Other "En Garde"
« Last post by Warren Abox on Today at 06:09:55 AM »
This could probably have gone into the flouncy shirts board because the game play is strictly non-magical. In fact, I use it with my Three Musketeers figures, but since the setting is a fantasy pre-Napoleonic era one...here we are.

Alternative Armies released a deuling game a couple of years back, set in the elvish Civil War that predates the Flintloque fantasy Napoleonic era, and I gotta say it's pretty good.  I've always struggled to find an enjoyable one-on-one fight game because of the minutiae of tracking stats and the tendency to devolve into static figures bashing each other.  "En Garde" avoids both problems with some interesting tracking mechanisms and decision making.

Running away until your opponent is too winded to counter-strike is a viable tactic against the right opponent, as is charging in and battering him with up close and personal knife attacks when he would prefer to maintain his distance.

And of course, like all good dueling games, it incorporates a couple of bluff-counter-bluff mechanics that allow for the players to engage in a mental feint-and-thrust.

It's a pretty fun game.  I've got a full write-up on the blog, if you're interested in reading more...

Yes, I was very surprised that they didn't expand the Napoleonic range, but kept to a restricted "Waterloo" theme. I could see them expanding into a late Successor army as another opponent for the Polybian Romans but I guess other ancient periods will depend on popularity plus whatever plans they have. I have a host of 28mm armies including Punic Wars so won't be spending my cash with Warlord.
