Hello & Beginnings of a Normandy board for 15mm CoC
« on: April 24, 2017, 01:07:31 AM »
Hey all,

Long term lurker first-time poster. I do a lot of Blanchitsu inspired 40k stuff but have recently been reading up on Too Fat Lardies games like Chain of Command and I Ain't Been Shot Mum. Sort of a natural progression from dipping my toes into historical wargame boardgames!

So here are the beginnings of a 15mm Normandy board.

Cafe du Normande (had to have a go!)
Laser cut mat board from my own CAD designs and many episodes of Band of Brothers.

Bocage and Wheat Field
Sculpted base, textured, flocked, sewing pins used to anchor the foliage, and some woodland scenic trees.

Love all the work I see here - very inspirational. Planning to treat this is a project log as I complete the board, the forces, and then learn to play the game.

Thanks for having me!

very good!!! :-*

Be warned! Both CoC and scratchbuilding houses could be very addictive! :D

Anyway, take a ride with Google Earth in some Normandy villages, you'll find a lot of ideas about new buildings!!

My ispiration for my buildings is Sainte Marie du Mont...

Great start!  I absolutely love that building, it is so French.

Please do keep us update.  Playing on beautiful terrain is one of the joys of wargaming and seeing stuff like this inspires me to do better.

Thanks for all of the comments, I find it very encouraging. I'll attempt to keep this one going. Forces me to chronicle things!

A few more images.

A small forest
These can be individually placed in small pockets or grouped to create a wooded area. I plan on building a boat load of these. Made with various scenic trees (pre-built and built by myself with clump foliage and Woodland Scenics armatures). Based on garage sale signs, textured, painted, and flocked.

A new wheat field
The second wheat field with paths. These will get a glossy finish to show how muddy it is (on the vehicle path). Again made with teddy fur, texture, and paint. The base for this is also a garage sale sign. There are also small stone walls on their own bases made from crumbled cork tiling.

Interior of the building- detail of the chimney
A sculpted chimney made from super sculpey. The back roof, floors, and back wall of the building are removable.

Bocage close up
Another shot of the bocage with a sherman for scale.

Laser cut custom counters
CAD designs by me based on iconography related to the forces. Overwatch triangles to indicate LOS and bar markers for tactical to lay alongside troops. Not sure how/if I'll color these yet. They'll need something as the burn residue gets all over your fingers when they are handled. Even after some serious wiping. So at a minimum they'll get a stain and a fixative.

As always C+C welcome! Should be back soon with more as part of the project log. Hopefully, I'm starting some paint jobs on the troops and buildings soon.

Arg - thanks for the heads up guys. Trying to fix now.

[edit] - alright should be fixed! I was originally trying to work out how to link directly from google photos. I like their storage options and easy interface but no idea how to get stuff that works with forum code. (PM if you have tips in that regard). Back to PhotoBucket for now! Let me know what you think!
