Dinos' pirate games (those I've played in, anyway) tend to be closer to an RPG session than a run-of-the-mill miniatures game. He puts a lot of work in designing and populating the place, gives us a briefing on the essentials, and then it's up to the players to drive the game according to their understanding of their characters and the setting (...)
The end result is that you pretty quickly slip into not playing the game but playing your character and his "crew".

:-* Excellent. That's how I understand miniature gaming, nothing else.  :)

as soon as the sentries raised the alarm, that the Governor calls all available troops to him, and he diced for when they'd arrive.

Perfect! that's the idea.  :)

Another option which I use in pirate games when there's a town/large village on the gaming table is the militia: after the alarm is raised, NPC inhabitants come out of their houses with muskets and run to some place (usually a large plazza, near the palace or village inn) and form into a militia unit, of little combat value but not to be ignored; also some of them may have been sailors = well trained gunners.

Patrice, thank you for your comments!
You may find militia/angry citizens featuring in our first game, played with Pikeman's Lament rules, starting from p.9

I like very much this conversion of Miltiades, the group of merry men singing and drinking, made from bodies of EMHAR Viking oarsmen

EMHAR has very flexible plastic, you can bend the limbs and they remain in place.

As they continued singing and drinking while San Padolfo was raided, remind me of an old proverb:
"You are singing while your houses are burning"

An absolutely fabulous game. The scenery and story telling were top notch, a great fun read lol
Your scenario was very clever, the idea that anyone could find the girl but no one including you, knew where, is a great and very simple idea to borrow.
Thanks for the entertainment.

Hi there!
I'm really glad you liked the story and the concept, you are one of the few who does not browse only the pictures but takes the time to read all through the text, and find where is the salt and pepper  lol
So, your comment is much appreciated - and always welcome!
Cheers!

That’s not a village , Dinos , that’s a Metropolis. The scene at the tavern reminds me of my last time in Rhodes , btw ......😁 ... or should that be Lindos in Rhodos .

Ha haaa! San Padolpho is not a Metropolis... yet! But it is aspiring to be in one of our next games!

It is really nice that the tavern scene reminds you of Lindos! Thank you for commenting!

The village effect of your LOVELY buildings all together is stunning. It is a WONDERFUL setting for swashbuckling deeds. All BEAUTIFULLY WELL DONE!

Thank you! My future plan is to make some more, hopefully better! Storage space is a matter, though.
