Because generally speaking, after Augustus the title Imperator was only used by the Emperor and members of his family. So it came to be associated with the ruling family, and thus was ripe for stealing to make our new words Emperor, Empire, Imperial and so on.

Actually, there was some variation. The title "Imperator" came to be used alongside "Augustus" during the Late-Middle and Late Imperial Periods, and the title "Caesar" came to be used to represent the next in line, or "Heir to the Throne", for lack of a better term.

At any rate, my objection still stands. Caesar was never granted the same level of power that the "Emperors" were. He never appears on a coin followed by "AVG", or "REX", and certainly never as "IMP IULIVS CAESAR AVG". He wasn't an Imperial ruler, period. He was the last dictator of the Republican period.

Great figure but JC as Emporer, no. Kenneth Williams - OH YES!

Ah, my old avatar from the "Carry On" craze a few months back.

I'll definitely have to get one of these figures, Emperor or not   ;D

Maybe one day they will branch out into other Carry On classics, like Up The Khyber.

I'd love a Kharsi and a Bungdit Din, not to mention a Sir Sydney.......
