Customs riding officer uniforms

I was thinking of doing a game with 18th century smuggling operations. My rudimentary research has lead me to discover about the processors of the Customs and exercise were called riding officers, but as yet I don't know much h about them. Anybody out there have any more information, particularly what uniform they wore etc.
