"Tanks" in Antares
« on: May 16, 2017, 05:56:04 PM »
Hi,
I'm considering the core Beyond the Gates of Antares rule book for my under-used AT-43 collection.
Question: How much space do the core rules give to various types of tank-like Walkers (which are a mainstay of the old AT-43 system). Specifically, do most Antares factions have specific "Walker" units stats and rules in the core book?
I ask this mainly because most of the online AARs tend to focus on infantry-based encounters and don't show many heavier tech units.
Thanks in advance.

Prof Challenger, I presume?

Most factions use anti-grav tech (or flying beasts), but the Ghar use a range of walkers from the basic single-Ghar battlesuits and weapon platforms up to big crewed crawlers.  They're quite distinctive and not huge either - they fit 3 Ghar IIRC.  Maybe proxy a smaller and lower mech?

The big vehicles tend not to come out until games over 1000 points - a typical one costs 200-300 points and you're limited on the strategic-level options you can take at lower points.  Look for high-point games of 1500+.

Thanks. following up, my main query was if there were big vehicle Walker stats and rules in Rick's core rule book. As you say big vehicles exist in 1,000+ points game, so does that mean the rules/stats for some of these are in the core book (the way major Allied and Axis tanks are included in Bolt Action, say).

Correct - there's a Ghar Command Crawler and a Ghar Bombard Crawler in the main rulebook, and a Ghar High Commander Karg crawler in the Xilos campaign book.  Oh and a smaller one called a "creeper" for rebel Ghar.

The Bombard Crawler has, you guessed, a massive gun on the back of it.  Just like several AT-43 crawlers!

A search on "ghar crawler" should help you with the size and shape of the models

A lot of people have suggested that the AT-43 walkers are good proxies for a 40k AdMech army as well.
