Thanks for the detail, much appreciated. It's a fascinating process. I've bought some armatures and tools, just need to get over my fear of doing things badly and have a go!

Keep pluggin away at it!

(You might want to simplify your armatures somewhat and get the basic proportions done with greenstuff before moving onto beesputty).

Thanks for the encouragement and support! I need it!

This has turned into the sculpt from hell. Everything that could go wrong, duly did so. I've restarted yet again from scratch as I didn't like the body and pose. This one should do the job, and I'm slowly getting there.

Sorry, I stopped taking pictures as I wasn't convinced this would lead anywhere, and I nearly gave up twice on her. I'll try to do a proper step-by-step at some point in the future.

I'd love to try my hand at sculpting someday, but never know where to start.  Guides like this are invaluable!

The figure is looking good, not sure I'd have had the patience to push through to a third version o_o

As a side note, I've also spent a bit of time sculpting digitally, and whilst I'm already achieving arguably "better" results in far less time, I don't find it particularly enjoyable. Pushing putty is just more fun, and there is something about the process of creating a unique physical product with all its warts and all that feels far more satisfying.

I've been doing quite a bit of digital sculpting recently and I actually find it slightly more enjoyable than pushing greenstuff. It's very frustrating, but at least I can ctrl-z my way out of problems and there's no waiting for putty to cure :D

I'm also getting to the age where sculpting on a 24" monitor is a lot easier than on a 28mm figure :)

I don't suppose you've still got any of the un-Photobucketted photos? I've come to this late, but I'd be curious to see them. I'm trying to go through a similar process myself - five separate armatures on corks spread across my hobby table!
