Very nice looking table.  Is the white house the Rendera model based on the Leister House at Gettysburg?  It looks great and I wondered if that was the model.

thanks.

Thanks for the feedback, I will updated on how future playtests go, there will be another soon. As far as the house is concerend no idea I am afraid the figures and terrain are all from chum Dave's collection. I will ask though.

@Rogerc,

Have you played further games yet?  BG is a complex set of rules to start with (it's always best, if possible, to start with at least one person in the group who has used them before), but once you get used to them, they provide the best depiction of AWI battles I've come across in more than 40 years of wargaming.
No plan survives first contact with the dice.

Not yet. I dont see us getting a big game into 3 hours with these and thats an issue for some of the guys.

What do you mean by a "big game" - how many units a side?

They certainly aren't "fast-play" rules, but quite a few of the smaller scenarios can be fought in 2-3 hours.

Looking about 12 battalions per side plus horse, guns and skirmishers on a 14 by 6 feet table.The team really dont like leaving a game up over more than one night for some reason so it has to work in the 2-3 hours.

Hi - from experience it’s like any new set of rules. The first few games are slow but soon you're playing intuitively without looking at the rules. From my experience you should, once familiar, get such a game finished in under 3 hours. They are a jolly good set of rules! Honest!

Cheers all. Happy to persevere as I enjoyed them. Dave and Howard have had 7 or 8 games with them, I have only had the one. Lets see how it develops.

The only problem I can see in keeping that under three hours (I'm assuming 2-3 players a side?) is the size of the table - ie getting enough troops to the point of decision.  Do you use the "brigade/divisional" moves?

An interesting read on your blog. I found my last BP AWI disappointing. There just seemed to be too much randomness in the game. So I thought I would try British Grenadier.

I have enjoyed our AWI BP games immensely. British Grenadier gave an enjoyable game but we just couldnt get a result. More than happy to try again.
