Loving those 40k tables, especially the one with the facility on the water. As you say, great to see terrain that actually makes a difference to the table, and looks like a coherent slice of ground rather than just a sprinkling of terrain elements.

Thanks, it's definitely a struggle motivating the younger 40K crowd to really get properly stuck in hobby-wise!

The water is always treated as an acid lake as well (units having to take armour saves if they enter/pass through it), so this necessitates some hover vehicles, jump troops or solid transports, etc.  Love using the terrain to push better army construction.  Bridges can blow up on our tables, fences stop/hinder movement (unless mowed down by vehicles or beasties), blast doors take movement to open/close, etc.

The facility on the water was part of a narrative game, where the Thousand Sons arrived to help a besieged small Knight Household (this being their "keep"...which was under attack by my renegade marines (basically the Thousand Sons endearing this down-on-their-luck Knight Household to work with them in the future), etc.  All good stuff.  The further I get from "proper" 40K the more I enjoy it.  Schweet tables help immensely!

There is an account of the battle on my blog at;

The game looks awesome. How does Fist Full of Lead work using such large numbers?

Figures can be activated in groups called "henchmen" or "grunts" in the rules. You get three figures in a group, (each with only one wound and they usually operate on a D8). They all act together on one activation card.  So you could field 12 -15 figures in one group whilst still only having 5 or 6 cards in your hand.

Nice looking games.

And Jemima all the best for Warfare, and interesting scenario too.

Cheers Von Lucky,

We did the dress-rehearsal game today, which with teaching lots of novices the rules meant that we didn't get to the Cuban counter-attack phase of the battle, but it was still a hoot and I was very pleased with how the terrain looked (even if mould suddenly started growing on my varnished rivers after only 30 minutes in a warm and humid room...!  :o ).
