[LEAD LEGION] The LAF Space Marine Chapter
« on: July 05, 2017, 02:40:22 PM »
It began in the Games Workshop thread:
http://leadadventureforum.com/index.php?topic=57122.msg1266134#msg1266134

Since this is the official GW thread, here's an idea ;) We are seeing so many members going back to 40k, so what about we create our own "official" forum Chapter?

It would be a team effort and the main objective would be to re-use old figures that are gathering dust. One member could do a tactical squad; another an assault one and so on.

We would have to agree to a paint-scheme; Chapter Name and someone would have to do the fluff part  lol

To get the ball rolling: as for the name I propose "Lead Adventurers" and I pledge a Tactical Squad of 10 Marines (bought used from Ebay, being stripped of paint right now).

From the effort of many forum members, I've collected the information (as much as possible) in this post. Please let me know if anything needs to be editted, etc.

Chapter name
Lead Legion

Chapter colours
The forum colours are:

Beige - #f6f6d6
Dark Camo - #999966
Light Camo - #cccc99

Used http://encycolorpedia.com for Vallejo and online charts for other ranges.

Using:

The typical scheme would be:

Red Orc put this together:

However, the chapter is know to deviate from this. In particular they have been known to use camouflage, much like the Raptors Chapter.

Veterans typically have white helmets and armour has known to be bare metal in parts. Weapons are black.

Chapter symbol
The castle tower with the moon behind it is the most Space Marine like from the forum banner:

A little hard to freehand, so we might get decals or custom shoulder pads done. A low visibility version could be the one of the right in grey.

Codex Space Marine Chapter Organisation (unsure how much is exactly followed by the Lead Legion):

So, I think we'll let a few more people to get on board to select a name. I think logo and colour scheme match the forum.

I plan on painting 5 guys (sergeant/character, 3 bolters, 1 flamer).

This'll be my take on the scheme:

I'll be doing a squad of MkVI beakie assault marines w/ jump packs...eventually.  lol  My name vote goes for the Lead Legion.  While we're at it, I wonder if Shapeways has a shoulder pad with a matching design on it.  I think I mentioned in the other thread that a Space Marine chapter called the Crimson Castellans had a similar shoulder pad.  I'll have to peruse and see.

If not I can rig one up easy. Not sure if I have a marine on hand for the correct shoulder measurements though!

If someone has a metal shoulder pad that fits the current ranges I could have a crack at sculpting a 3D pad and get it cast up for others to use.
This would not be a quick turnaround, of course, and may take too long for most who want to do this.....

Yeah it's a neat idea, but the cost (just for international shipping) is probably prohibitive.

I'm not a caster but I think with the Dutch mail you could ship a decent number of shoulder pads for a couple of euros.

I can still edit the chapter icon if anybody has any pointers btw. this was really only a couple of minutes work meant as a first idea.

It really would not work out much for postage.
I reckon ten pads in a box will weigh less than 100g so not too steep sending them at Large Letter rate*.
It would be the turnaround/casting time that may be more off putting.

So I assume our chapter has some weird relationship with the mechanicus since they always lust after new toys?  :D

For me there's no rush, the Chapter will grown as new people join in, there's no limit in time for painting the Marines.

Once this takes on a bit more of a finalized shape, maybe there'll be enough interest in doing a painting club for it?
