6mm Villers Bocage build completed
« on: July 14, 2017, 12:51:21 PM »
Hi folks,

some of you may have already seen this on my facebook page (facebook.com/takecoverscenics) but those who haven't, I've just finished a pretty big 6mm Villers Bocage project for a customer. A couple of months ago a returning customer asked me to build some boards representing the town of Villers Bocage, that could also be useable as any generic WW2 French market town. The brief was to build 4 x 30cm square boards, running from left to right (West to East) and featuring the main roads and some of the other features prevalent in Villers.

The customer provided detailed outline drawings of where he wanted tarmac roads, hard standing areas for buildings, and grassy areas for farms, barns, or fields – I just needed to build it!

I was also commissioned to build the following items:

8 feet of 6mm scale country hedges (but not bocage, as I'd already built him some in his previous order).

8 feet of stone walls.

50 trees of varying heights and canopy styles (40 moveable ones, and 10 modelled onto the hedgerows).

A churchyard (complete with walls, graves and a tree) which could be overlaid onto the Westernmost board, or could be used in any game in another location.

Finally, he wanted several other small pieces of "scatter terrain" which could be used either on the boards, or in any other wargames setting. These included a few ploughed fields, some pastures, a couple of copses and a pond.

I've included a few photos here, but loads more are available on the Take Cover Scenics facebook page. Hopefully there are enough here to allow you to see the scale and complexity of the build.  One important thing to note is that I had to borrow a few 6mm buildings for the photos - the customer has gots tons of Normandy-style buildings but I don't have access to them!

Thanks for looking – and if you want anything ranging from a set of hedges to a similar set of boards, just get in touch and we'll discuss your requirements, prices, etc.

Cheers,

John

Let's face it - the only sensible scale for WW2....!

Looks great - if I was 20 years younger, I'd be placing an order myself....
