Why is there a well right next to an oasis?
The laws of probability do not apply to my dice in wargames or to my finesses in bridge.

Meanwhile, the riverboat continues its uneventful journey...

Holy Ansar's roasted on a bayonet!  That is an overwhelming amount to absorb - and not time tonight as I type, bed awaits.  But I shall be back and spent a hour or more going through all of this.  Must have taken you many hours to get all that up.  Wow!

Now I hope that you give me some excuse when I asked you for some patience  lol

Still fifteen miles up river. They meet a serious problem with the boiler. The situation seems beyond local repair...

Well done on a very spiffing colonial adventure. That is a great looking Sudanese town.

Thank you from the part of Miltiades as well!
I don't know if you have visited the thread devoted exclusively to the town

The Gatling's jammed

from Sir Henry John Newbolt's poem which was written in 1892, "Vitaï Lampada".

...The sand of the desert is sodden red,
Red with the wreck of a square that broke;
The Gatling's jammed and the Colonel dead,
And the regiment blind with dust and smoke.
The river of death has brimmed his banks,
And England's far, and Honour a name,
But the voice of a schoolboy rallies the ranks:
"Play up! play up! and play the game!"...

"Play up! play up! and play the game!"...

well after all ...
we did play the game didn't we?
it was an exciting game and a close thing. Aris was very sneaky as every Arab commander should be and he won the day. One problem with the rules was that the British were too strong. In at least two critical moments they should have taken a moral check [which was not provisioned by the rules] and perhaps Aris' victory would have been easier...

They should! But the Queen forbid you to incorporate it in the rules  lol
Besides this, in Hollywood, only the bad guys retreat  lol
Nevertheless, as you said, it was an adrenaline rising close run thing!

Utterly splendid work sir!  The town really is most impressive, and the whole thing sums up why I still want to do the Sudan some day, despite all the other periods and on-the-go projects I am already involved in.  Bravo!
