Finally ran out of Future Floor Polish - - - Advice ?
« on: July 25, 2017, 12:17:12 AM »
It finally happened. Twenty-plus years ago I bought myself a quart of Future Floor Polish and have been merrily mixing it 1 to 4 with water to make a 'wash' base into which I could add any color.

Ten years ago I hunted down the VERY LAST BOTTLE (of the original formulation) in California, From the back of the bottom shelf of the Walmart, crawling on hands and knees to dig it out and send it to a Belgian modeler friend.  Wasn't smart enough to keep half of it for myself.

Over the years I gave away several ounces at a time to buddies who had run out, and now I regret my prolific generosities.

Is there a modern product which works as well at dragging the wash color back into the creases of a mini as does diluted original formulataion Future? Does somebody make an analog?

What would your recommend?

Thanks in advance for any pointers or advice.

Chick

To be honest, I have had very good luck with the 'Pledge with Future Shine' that replaced it, but then I use it in the original formulation that I got from another Clan War player waaaayyyyy back in the day that we merrily refer to as Magic Wash - 50% Future, 25% 90% Isopropyl Alcohol, and 25% Ceramcoat Color Float.  Best wash medium I have ever come across.

Sinewgrab, your suggestion is very interesting to me.

Does the formulation posted above form the actual wash into which you put pigment, or is it the concentrated wash base which you DILUTE before you add pigment and use?

How much would the postage to the States be?  Can you send bottles of fluid across the pond these days? Is the stuff I have stashed upstairs the version you covert?

So many unanswered questions ;D

Basically I have a few bottles from years ago and I am never going to use them all. I won't fall victim as you have done as I find the current stuff works for my needs of preventing silvering and aiding adhesion of decals on plastic kits.

That's right. Look for Pledge with Future shine.

According to Sinewgrab's post, it doesn't work as well as the original product.

It wasn't enough of a change to dismiss out of hand, though - and I still use it in a mix rather than by itself.

Chick,

Have you tried Poly Shades Minwax? I use the Tudor Satin Stain. When it's mixed right it shades and protects. Once dry I spray it with Testors lusterless flat. It works great.
