Anna Elizabeth - Twilight 2000 in 1/35 scale
« on: August 14, 2017, 06:25:18 PM »
Hello All,

Another subject I enjoy is Cold War Gone Hot and What If After the End. I was a child in the 80s, I grew up on 99 Luftballons and techno-thrillers by Tom Clancy and Harold Coyle. One of my favorite things is the old Pen-and-paper Roleplaying Game from GDW, Twilight:2000, set in the aftermath of a Nuclear World War III. I have some original books, some reprints, and many .pdf books of the classic T2K setting, and it's inspired me to do some modelling. I decided on 1/35th scale, when I started these I didn't know about all the 15mm, and Battlefront's "Team Yankee" was years away.

This woman is a Track Driver with the US 49th Armored Division, somewhere in Oklahoma in 2001 CE. I converted her from Black Dog's "US Woman Soldier" and a head from Toro Models "Modern Polish Tanker", with accessories from Trumpeter, DML, and Tamiya. The weapon leaning on the water can is an M231 Port Gun, the M-16 derivative designed to be used from the gunports of M2 Bradleys. In T2K, thousands of M231s were issued as things got worse, a lousy weapon being better than no weapon.

 I am also W_i_P on a M48A5, and a T-64. Thank you for looking. :)

Looks pretty good. I like the Twilight 2000 setting, but would put it near my home of course :))!
1/35 that 50mm? Too daunting for me, but works brilliantly, if you can paint it!

Thank you. :) Yes, around 50mm for a adult. I chose the scale because of all the vehicles and accessories. I've set a limit on nothing real-world manufactured or introduced after 1997, as that was when the Twilight War kicks off for the USA.

In the story, the personnel of the 49th Armored were not sent overseas. They initially served in Disaster Relief after the so-called "Thanksgiving Day Massacre" (as T2K calls the Nuclear exchange between NATO and the USSR), and then they are deployed to Texas to oppose the Soviet/Cuban/Mexican invasion of the shattered USA. They have a mish-mosh of old equipment, Gun Trucks, captured Warsaw Pact-vehicles and even museum pieces.

Nice model.

I do not remember much of the USA set scenario and background (a lot of poly cement has flowed since then).

Somewhere (even further down than the M1A2 Giraffe) I have a 120mm British female tank commander figure.

I just saw your Abrams Giraffe. :) Excellent work, I plan to do one eventually. I want to see if Meng or Rye Field do an M1IP to follow up their recent Abrams kits in 1/35.

I'm planning a set to resemble the old T2K cover, the Humvee and personnel around it. The DML "M-16 Family" set had the 100-round "snail drum" magazines for M-16s, and I've converted a Verlinden Desert Shield Marine to carry it.
