British "Black Smoke" Grenadiers
« on: August 28, 2017, 05:10:05 PM »
British VSF "Black Smoke" Grenadiers! In the wake of the cephalopod incursion, atmospheric weapons like the invaders "Black Smoke" are a reality of the battle field. Britain's troops are equipped with the most advanced system to counter this threat, a system of filters, rebreathers and stored air. The weight of this means only the strongest men are issued with these, The Black Smoke Grenadiers. The officers are armed with a new quick fire carbine. The figs are from Brigade Games Stampunk British Empire Troopers. I've got 6 more of these to paint then I'll post all my painted British VSF troops to date!

Stalwart lads, indeed!

I don't recall Hyde before; is he, in your imagi-world, a one-off?

I'm remembering Moriarty's plan to 'weaponize' Jekyll's formula into an army, the nation being fully grateful that his schemes were foiled and he found his just rewards, but the invasion IS the definition of desperate times!

First, thanks to The Beast, jambo1, Capt. Darling and Chairface for the kind words! To answer The Beast's question Hyde is one of the 2 survivors of the Ultra Soldier Initiative ( the other being Major Saxon ). The fig is a GW Ogryn from the 80s.
WARNING FLUFF AHEAD:
The background for my VSF is Well's Martian Invasion. It happens in 1862. Cylinders land worldwide but mainly in the Northern Hemisphere with the greatest concentration in the British Archipelago. So England is hit hardest but ends up with the most Martian machines including command and control tech. The Martian Invasion lasts longer than in Well's book and it takes a while to pick up the pieces but now in the 1880s  the world is back on it's feet and armed with retro engineered Invader technology powered by 19th century means. Ultra Soldier Serum is a Martian invention to either strengthen themselves against Earth's gravitational pull or to beef up humans for a food supply. The drug is unpredictable in it's effects and most of the recipients die from these.

On a personal note, we dealt with a hurricane over the last couple of days and I'm grateful that my loved ones and I came through unharmed!
