http://theminiaturespage.com/boards/msg.mv?id=278404And here's a LINK to a web-page with depictions of historical Afghan flags stretching from ancient times to the present day:
http://www.afghanland.com/history/flags/flags.htmlI will add that Pathan tribal flags are generally described as being triangular in shape.
There are contemporary references to such tribal flags being red, but also green or black.
I know of a handful of contemporary visual depictions of such tribal flags, in black-&-white sketches for newspapers and also in at least one color painting. They are often shown with fringed edges and Arabic inscriptions on the body of the flag. Most historical wargamers and miniature flag-makers I know of, myself included, generally depict this as the
Shahada -- the Muslim profession of faith -- a version of which can be seen on the flag of Saudi Arabia.
