My Zulu War Collection
« on: August 30, 2017, 03:19:47 AM »
Hello,

I recently purchased a much loved second hand Old Glory British/Zulu army. They were all painted using enamels. I tested one figure by re-painting using acrylics. The results required additional effort. So I just re-painted the helmets off white for the Hollywood style of play I wish to do. I have about 200 painted Zulus with a further 200  to paint. Two additional British firing line units to complete. You can see the example below of the musician.

The Zulus require rebasing which are not shown here.

My aim is to recreate the movie Zulu Dawn with an artistic twist. In that, I will have the Royal Navy involved by way of troops and support weapons. The Perry range I'll utilised to complete the collection. First off, is the RN Gatling Gun ( which I've painted and is shown below) from their Sudan range. Further, I've the lancers and dismounted lancers to utilise. A 9lb artillery piece will support the column. I'm hoping for a rocket and command which should finish the collection nicely. Not to big, but enough miniatures to compliment the game. David Bickley's Rules will be utilised.

The tents (WIP) I bought from Rendra and using Warbases for the bases which will do nicely. I need to find some suitable wagons.

Excellent paintjob, especially the sailors' face expressions  :-*

Great painting Helen :D

Zulu Dawn is a great movie. Will you include converted characters like Colonel Durnford (Burt Lancaster)?

Thanks everyone for your kind words. I'll try and keep this theme moving along this year. If Michael Perry releases a Isandlwana character pack with Ltcol AW Dunford then I shall purchase said pack.

The miniature size is important to me and Old Glory British/ Zulu miniatures sit nicely beside Perry Miniatures.

Thanks again for looking.

Well impressive! The Zulu can surely not win against such a body of stalwart redcoats  lol
I am going to build a wargames army, a big beautiful wargames army, and Mexico is going to pay for it.
