(AP 2017) Garibaldi in Sicily 1860
« on: September 01, 2017, 07:07:44 AM »
A month late to the thread, due to getting my 1835 stuff ready for action, but now I’m ready to move up to the modern age  - 1860.

Seduced by the glamour of Giuseppe Garibaldi, or more precisely Gringo 40’s figures of the period, I’m aiming for a Red Shirt force suitable for Sharp Practice by Christmas.

This is the start of a possible demo game using some Grand Manner buildings (Penninsula Spanish but don’t look out of place for Sicily) and some of these may slip into the photos as I progress them.  If the authorities permit, I might expand this to include the Neopolitan forces as well.

First off, the man himself:

And the first unit:

And a water carrier - this one is the Mary Seacole giveaway figure from a previous Partizan but I thought the dress style wasn’t too dissimilar from some Sicillian dress:

I like your figures.
Look forward to seeing what you paint next.

Very interesting, the figures and buildings look great.
a mixture of quick parts, sarcastic humour, reserve, and caprice.

More progress.
The Sharp Practice list I want to complete is as follows:
Leader status IV (Garibaldi)
3 groups of 8 Red Shirts

Leader Status III (Bixo)
2 groups of 8 Red Shirts

Leader Status I (undecided yet)
1 group of 8 Red Shirts

Leader Status I (undecided yet)
1 group of 6 Picotti (Sicilian bandits)

Brother Pantaleo (looking for a mad monk with a pistol  or musket)

Progress so far:

An alternative Garibaldi to the last one with new ‘go faster’ option:

A Red Shirt unit (yes I know, but there weren’t that many red shirts to go around at first!):

Another Red Shirt unit:

And there’s a new backdrop, the Grand Manner windmill.  It’ll get sails when I work out how to do them and a little hilly base to raise it above the mundane hovels.

I think Perrys used to have a Spanish Monk with a Blunderbuss from the Carlist war range?

Thanks, there's a couple of possibilities in that pack:

Missed my last two deadlines, but back on track now, three more units finished (and two buildings  :)):

This one includes Col. John Beard as a ‘Big Man’ - the Garibaldi’s get quite a lot of these:

And the last unit has a Boothill lady, actually Mexican for my TWI game but as I’d just finished her, she looks suitable for a Sicilian farmer’s daughter waving her brave boys off:

Plus I need to finish the flag, just debating homemade or pre-printed.

Just one more unit (Picotti - Sicillian bandits) and one more Big Man to go and technically this is finished, hopefully before Christmas.

This is a pretty interesting project, don't know much about the setting. The buildings are great for flavor, well done.

Thanks chaps.

Figures are nice, but I love the buildings.

Then you may like what’s coming over Christmas  :)

But that may need to be another thread, it’s a little outside the scope of the AP idea.
