Best/favourite Gladiator combat rules in 2017?
« on: September 02, 2017, 12:12:42 AM »
Age old question, I've read previous topics asking a similar question and have an idea about some classic sets, but since there have been some new rulsets hit the market I wondered which rulesets provide you with the most fun and satisfaction? Any of the free rules worth a look?

I'm definitely looking for a dynamic ruleset that  justifies all the 54mm gladiators I have, and the massive playmobil arena!

Thanks!

Dave,
After a couple attempts in 28mm and 54mm, I think that,

"I'm definitely looking for a dynamic ruleset that  justifies all the 54mm gladiators I have, and the massive playmobil arena! "

Is becoming the Holy Grail of miniature gaming.

Jugula is by far the most interesting Gladiator game I've played.
But it's not a simulation and doesn't try to be.
Part of the interest comes from each side having a team of 4 gladiators, but most comes from the card play and deck building.
A lot of one on one gladiator games can degenerate into two figures hacking away with no real decision making.

I'm rather partial to Blood, Sweat and Cheers from Ganesha. But then, I might be biased...  ::)

Would agree with nic, have tried various others but BSC, has a simple system with much more depth than at first apparent. A fast fun game with skill of play coming before tedious charts and long winded minutae.

Furt's Blood on the Sands will continue to be my go-to game (sadly still unavailable I believe).  I have a couple others for entertaining larger crowds, simple stuff like Arena Games, but they don't scratch the same itch for me.
