A Firefly in the Expanse
« on: September 16, 2017, 12:04:52 AM »
Starting on a new project. So new thread to collect all the posts and updates.
Going skirmishy. Heavily influenced by The Expanse and Firefly with a dash of Dark Matter. So big corporate entities, private security, angry colonists, pirates, organized crime rings, radical Belter terrorist cells and Martian and UN militaries trying to make sense of it all. 15mm.

Starting with RAFM figures because they're local to me and they just had a sale.

First efforts are some colony buildings made from shipping containers. This is all junk scavanged from work.

The double-wide is a restaurant/bar or admin building. The smaller one with the junk piles is a machine shop. One of my unpainted 15mm colonists checks things out.

While the epoxy was setting I did a test on some space suited figures:

Of course I've got to settle on a base colour. Grey for the floors of the inside of my underground colony or airless asteroids? Tan for the dirt of the colonies with atmosphere?

Agree - lovely little start. Watching 'The Expanse' is making it hard not to start something similar.

Re: A Firefly in the Expanse update 18/09/2017 adding paint
« Reply #5 on: September 18, 2017, 04:20:33 PM »
Starting to put some paint on things. Primed black and then a lot of brushing. Printed off and made stencils for the Weyland Corp logo. Freehanded the Blue Sun Corp logo. Found and printed some assorted warning and caution signs. But the resolution on my printer is crap.

I should add some multi-lingual signage over doors to show the new uses.

Plus I did a few more colour schemes for the space suits including a blue and grey security guy and a grey and khaki terrorist/rebel.

The ship's boat is the RAFM grav tank with turret removed and replaced by a thingyto cover a bolt head on some flat pack furniture or a big kids toy. I can't remember.

Still need to paint the bases, but the glue and sand is still drying. The RAFM figures come with nice round bases, so additional washers or MDF aren't really needed.

Added some signage to the workshop. Bit of a shout out to my employers (used the company logo and did a play on the company name). Some one has obviously been sent out to paint the name in Chinese by the door.

And the big door on the end opens to get large orders out, so some bilingual warning signs are required.

Lots of figures done lately. I'm amazed at how much I'm enjoying painting these older Traveller figures, which results in me banging them out at a prodigious rate.

Civilians. Station workers, businessman, high class lady, doctor.

Armed crew, angry colonists, smugglers. Note the big '70s or '80s hair on the women on the right.

Lovely job - this looks great. In all the years since there aren't many 15mm figures to top those Traveller ones - so characterful.

Looks like a nice project.  In case you haven't seen them, Splintered Light Miniatures does two packs of "not Serenity" crew, one armed the other passive.
