Definitely trees. It would only take about a month for trees to be growing up through the Seattle streets if all the people were gone!  lol

Trees definitely, but NOT neat fir trees. You need malformed twisted scary ones.

I'll second the request for 'malformed, twisted scary trees'. But green.

I've already done some searching, and unless I'm willing to make them myself, there aren't a lot of options aside from Citadel Woods.  I wouldn't bother with the bases that come with the kits.  Instead, I'd distribute the trees separately or in small groups across the board.

I could paint them with green leaves, but that's a bit boring.  Another idea is to make them denuded trees.  I'd add some color to them using moss and a greenish tint to the wood, as pictured below.  Another, is to paint them in Autumn colors (also pictured below), which would match the dried grass clumps that I've already added to most of my terrain pieces.  Also, I could use a few for the Autumn themed board I have planned for this years Adepticon SAGA events.

Hmm?

I've plan to release the nice dead forest from the Pardulon range in a few months.

Nice.  Railroad scenery suppliers offer tons of miniature trees, which are more or less all the same, but I am surprised at how few companies provide detailed tree trunks and creepy trees like the Citadel Woods or your Dead Forest Terrain Kit.  Wyrd Miniatures produced a limited edition set of Hanging Trees, but, assuming you can find them for sale somewhere, they'll cost you an arm and a leg.

I'd like to see someone sell a plastic or resin 'creepy' tree kit, similar in quality and design to Citadel Woods.  The trees would be about the same height as those in the Citadel Woods kit, but have a moderately thinner trunk (maybe 2/3rds the diameter of the Citadel Woods).  Unlike the Citadel Wood kit, this new kit wouldn't include a large 'area terrain' base, but instead the material not spent on the big base (which hobbyists can make themselves), would be used to include more trees in the kit (perhaps 6 trees per kit).

The Pardulon Dead Forest is a step in that direction, but I'd like to see the tree thicker tree trunks (perhaps double the DIA of those in the photo on TGN), so man-sized 28mm models could be completely concealed behind the trunk.

Here's the set up for our final game of our mini-5 week TNT campaign.

Sorry about the quality of the photos.  The light in the shop is bad and I took the photos with my phone.

Remember, to view the images 'full size', right-click the image and select 'View Image.'

After setting up my terrain, we decide to play a 4-way, 'King of the Hill' type of scenario.  Since the warbands were deployed within 8" squares at the table's corners, we added the cargo containers to block LOS between the deployment zones.

We had to stop the game during Turn 4 because the shop closed.  There was much carnage.  The Washington State Troops, a Peacekeeper warband, was declared the winner.

This is fantastic, but now I want to see a post apocalyptic longhouse with biohazard and radiation symbol carvings.

I finally finished the Crooked Dice Scrapwalls.  There is certainly room for improvement, but I think they turned out pretty good.

Love your terrain.
Trees, I would put in groups of 2 and 3.
Blocks line of sight.
Also planter boxes with flowers, will add some color.

Thanks.  Good ideas.

During our last game we agreed that that the volume above each tree's base, up to the tree's height, blockes LOS.  This is consistent with how models block LOS in TNT.

I'm eager to finally start painting my warbands, so I decided against spending the many hours required to assemble and paint a dozen Citadel Woods trees. Instead, I opted to save time by using model railroad trees.  I mounted the trees on 40mm 'Building Ruins' bases made by Crafty Ogre, a local manufacturer.  Before painting, I drilled a hole in the center of each base and added additional texture using white glue and sand.
