Monochromatic The Walking Dead
« on: 29 September 2017, 12:11:07 PM »
Well I finally decided to start painting my Mantic Games The Walking Dead All Out War Kickstarter.

I love the comics over but the TV show is slowly growing on me.

I decided to pay an homage to the comics and paint the figures in grayscale, stealing the idea from The EVil Cartoonist's blogpost on painting zombicide zombies.

I painted 6 Walkers from the Walker Booster and 5 Zombies from the Prelude to Woodbury Set and Brian Blake, the man who would become the Governor. Everything is drybrushed from dark to light grays 3-4 colours each. Then washed in black ink, then highlighted. The first pic they are done but it is really poor. Sorry.

The second pic they were not yet washed buit it shows the grays better.

The last is Brian Blake.

I also picked up the RV and have started painting that too...
Yearly painting challenges only show me how useless I am at painting...

A nice start. I was talking to a friend about people who are doing this - works really well when it's a whole table (terrain and gaming aids, etc). I admire your dedication to getting the comic book look.

And I also painted some of those zombies last weekend - a wash really makes the whole thing easy and a lot of fun. You found that too?

The "plan" is to do an entire table....the concept of doing trees is causing some doubt...
Initially I just dry brushed them but then I decided to use a wash to mimic the bloodstains and got carried away....these take a wash very well

Neat idea.

Some railway modellers have built monochrome layouts which have looked good.

Those O scale buildings are really helpful.  I got a massive box of busted ones that I have been putting together.  It's not just that they are good kits; They provide an awesome scaling template to help you scratchbuild your own stuff!  I look forward to seeing what you are doing with your table.  A monchrome board would look pretty wild.

Ultravanillasmurf - no dramas, I was just impatient in reading the article and thought I might as well share it.

No problems.

Now I need to track down those model railways I mentioned.

I'm sorry this isn't monochrome but it's an example of an O cathedral that I repainted for TWD.  I've been looking for used lots and have picked up decent stuff for a fraction of hat new out of the box kits would cost.  With a little TLC (more paint and plasticard to fix up broken bits) I think they rock.  I prefer single story structures though because most of the Plasticville two story house reduce the height of the second story so it makes gaming the interiors questionable.
