Harley Davidson Flathead project
« on: September 29, 2017, 02:43:12 PM »
We've already 3D-printed prototypes of the Harley Davidson Flathead motorcycle, at 1:100 and 1:72 scales altogether --and have even resin cast a handful of both, for the rider sculptors to have samples at hand. Please watch what they look like:

As for its smaller version, we are now in the process of prospecting a well-known British company to reach some kind of agreement or joint venture production, on the basis that Minairons would furnish the bike prototypes while the other brand would provide for riders. If such agreement was met, bikes and riders would then be cast as a single piece, accordingly to the usual practice of that brand.

Otherwise, riders for its 1:72 version would be cast apart by one of our usual sculptors (Xan or Angel Terol), depending on each one's availability and agenda. Bike itself might be cast as resin or white metal indifferently in this case.

Cheers
Lluís

Any chance of doing it in around 1/50th for use with 28s?

Why not? ...provided we then would (hypothetically speaking) make it better at 1:56th, matching other models from us.

Cool - completely understand that but, imo, whilst 1/56th works fine for vehicles, a bike might look a tad small with a rider on....

Uhm... That sounds thoughtful enough to be taken into account.

Thanks for your concern. All my friends and relatives are safe and happy to have successfully done "that illegal thing that can't even be named" despite all... er... troubles around.

Good to hear!

Also echoing the comment that 1:50 is a better scale for motorcycles intended to go alongside 1:56th vehicles or 28-30mm figures. For instance the Tamiya 1:48 BMW is perfect. It's odd but it's just the way the appearance seems to work.

Please allow me to take advantage of the (relative) interest this thread has brought forward for asking you about one feature else:

If finally deciding to endeavour a 1:50th scale version of this pretty bike, would you like it better alone, or inclusive of a rider?

And if this latter is true, I then guess you would prefer a, let's say, generic rider rather than one too conspicuously restricted to SCW, isn't it?

(I was thinking of a rider dressed in "Guardia de Asalto" garments, so closely similar to any road policeman of many western countries)

Personally, having a generic rider would be good as my main interest is more for Pulp than SCW.

Just to make more work for you, having the rider also dismounted and bike separate would be even better

Like Dags, a lot of games I play feature mounting and dismounting vehicles, so I typically pick up bikes without riders, unless they come with a separate pair of mounted/on foot figures.

Another vote for rider and bike separate.  Apart from anything else, I think that particular M/C has quite a pedigree and would suit a variety of riders from the 1920s to the 1970s which would surely broaden the commercial appeal beyond SCW?

Another vote here for separate riders.

I'm not sure how much mileage you would get out of an Assault Guard rider to be honest, you might be better with a more casual 'pulpy' high boots and jodhpurs style. Whatever head-wear you choose will also be trumped by the sheer diversity of that worn, but thankfully separate heads are available from Empress and other sources.

Pre-War Assault Guards... very '30s CHiP-looking. No idea where they are, but they aren't riding Harleys (BSAs?).

Assault Guards in Barcelona 1936 - note they are sporting rifle holsters and ammo pouches now, rather than the clean 'Sam Brown' pistol holster belt above.

Other Civil War Republican Motorcyclists

Czech helmet... safety first!

One with added Valero 50mm Mortar (and I think a sidecar on the left of the 'mortar carrier').
