The Great Manchukuo Road Rally -- Pulp Alley
« on: October 05, 2017, 09:00:14 PM »
For our next project, we are leaning towards a book with an Asian theme. Specifically, Manchuria in the 1930's. So I am looking for some good miniatures for that setting/period -- Chinese Bandits, Japanese Soldiers, and so on...

So far I am thinking Copplestone is the way to go, but I am wondering if there are any other miniature lines I should check out?

Please share your suggestions.....

THANKS

Nothing to suggest but just wanted to say that this sounds like a really fun theme - colour me interested!

I'm afraid I don't really have any suggestions for suitable minis either.

That said, I really like the sound of your new book. I've been tempted for years to run a campaign inspired by the "Croisière Jaune", or "Yellow Cruise", where 14 Citroen Kegresse half-tracks made the 12,000-kilometer trip from Beirut to Beijing. This may well be the final trigger for me to get started with this project.

Dave I've a few releases due round Christmas that'll work nicely. Also there are three packs further packs 'planned' not sculpted. If your interested ,then I don't see why they can't be exactly what you need.
Just drop me a few character ideas or mug Fram, for a couple of sketches.

Mark.

Black Army does some decent Japanese infantry in the correct helmets. That said I have had real problems ordering from them but that is probably because I am on Guam - not quite U.S., not quite not, according to the people who write the programming in the shopping carts of many manufacturers  :?

Pulp Figures has Japanese soldiers. Also some of the old Pulp Figures Chinese can be had from Crucible Crush. Otherwise Copplestone has some great stuff. You might also be able to use 3 or 4 of the Hasslefree modern martial artists.

So you will set this in and around the Japanese occupied area?

Matt,
Drop me a leagues worth of characters of what ever you and Dave come up with.
I'll make them.

Here's a real life league I've been toying with sculpting . So now I've got a excuse.

Something set in Shanghai would also be quite fun, a kind of Vice Alley sort of urban gangster setting, overlaid by international espionage and intervention, and combined with emerging political movements...

I'm sure Dave'll let me know if he has any specific ideas he wants me to sketch up. In the meantime, one idea is to have a look at the Tintin story "The Blue Lotus", which was Herge's first really properly researched comic, and ought to provide loads of ideas for figures for figures in Shanghai, Hong Kong, etc. in the 1930's.

Pulp Figures also has a few female figures among the Dangerous Dames packs that could be painted up as Chinese or Japanese.

I agree that the idea of a campaign based in and around Shanghai in the 30's is very exciting.
