Late War Project - New Squad p.7
« on: October 29, 2017, 05:14:22 PM »
Hi gents,

I finished the first 9 of the 'new' Late War Americans, sculpted by Mr. Hicks and released by Empress.
These miniatures are hands down the most realistic and most detailled I've seen so far for the WWII in 28mm. I made my entry into WWII with the still excellent Artizan miniatures, but these are another thing altogether in terms of equipment detail.

I love the variation and the rag-tag look with grenades attached to the webbing, winter hats underneath the helmets and different ammo pouches.

Although the many details are really nice and make the miniatures stand out once painted, during thr progress of getting these finished I nearly went insane...highlighting endless straps and buttons and stuff can get really tedious  ;D

Base-wise I went for a late autumn kinda style, enabling me to use them for both the Hurtgen Forest and the beginning of the Battle of the Bulge, as well as some February 1945 Sauer-crossing settings  ;) After having painted up quite a few miniatures for the Bulge with snowy bases I wanted to do something else.

After much rambling, here is the finished result:

I hope you like them!  :)

To be continued with the HMG team, both displacing and set up.

Little teaser:

Cheers,
Marc

They really are lovely looking figures. I might have to do a US infantry platoon after all (I've only got a US armoured infantry platoon).

Those look fantastic! Thank you for the kind words. They were great fun to sculpt. Just putting the finishing touches to some heavy weapons for the GIs before I start on some more Germans!

Lovely work.....looking forward to seeing how your platoon developes
Now listen to me you benighted muckers. We're going to teach you soldiering. The world's noblest profession. When we're done with you, you'll be able to slaughter your enemies like civilized men.

They are beautiful sculpts. I'd love someone to commission you to do a Vietnam range like those.

Top paint work on top sculpts  :D
Out of interest why are some olive green and others a blue/gray/green ? The latter would seem to be close to the Foundry German Field Grey palette ... but also close to the 1960s US Army shirt that I have in a cupboard somewhere
