I did a sweep of the forum and got some more comparison photos (finally!). Taking my own pics is taking longer than I thought, and they don't come out great.

Has this helped anyone so far?

I can't say that at the moment  :D
But it's good to know that this is somewhere available. How do you process the comparison pictures, as I also have some to offer?

I just host them, make sure I know who the miniatures are made by and stick them up! If you have a direct link just PM them to me and I will add them to the original post!  :D

Many thanks for this great and very helpful thread! :)

Embarrassing myself now in the eyes of everyone who already knew it, I would also like to mention a little something I accidentally stumbled upon just minutes ago, and which might actually come in quite handy for the ones of us who regularly browse the Reaper homepage and wonder how specific miniatures behave sizewise:

Apparently, the two metal triangles you find on the starboard side of (most of) the miniature photos mark the height of 0.5 and 1 inch, respectively.

I actually feel a bit like a simpleton now for never having this thought occurring to me before (and always wondering why the photo people at Reaper do not take pictures without some parts from other miniatures sticking into view). lol
(My sincere apologies to everyone to whom this is old news; at least, you can still play find-the-links-in-this-post, if you have nothing better to do. ;))

/'Nother Edit: I just noticed that this indeed is old news, but since all the mentionings of "Bryangles" and the like in this forum (at least the ones I was able to find) happened in places I usually do not frequent as often, and as this is a centralized and stickied topic, I still find it a tiny bit useful to have it also here, officially, and all. ;)

Splendid tread, not just for the height comparisons but also for the side by side comparisons of the the different makers.

Christian, tipping of hat in your general direction. :-)
Best regards

Harry

What a super thing this is, I am really greatful for your work that you have put in to this. You asked if this have helped people, well it sure did help me make up my mind on buying some miniatures today. Heh, the miniature producers should send you figures for free, it will help both you, me and them! Win win! :)

Man, that page would be great if the the baseline for measurement was the soles of the feet.

You did notice that you can move the images around right?

If you want to compare from the base to the figure - choose a line and line it up.  When you click an image, it becomes transparent to make it easier to line up.

Oh ha!

At first I thought you could move them, but drag and drop seemed to do nothing. Turns out it wasn't working because of my ad blocking plugins. Works fine now.

Plan on doing attribution of the images once I get things a little more polished...though the polish is sort of perplexing to me.

Right now I am using full color PNG files.  They look the best with the transparent pixels, however they are significantly larger than say PNG-8 or GIF files.

The first is the full color PNG, followed by a GIF and a PNG-8.  You can see the issue at the edges of the figure and lettering.  With the prevelance of broadband connections though, I am not too sure the size really makes much difference.  It is a significant savings though, 32 kb for a full color image and 10 kb for a palletized image.

As far as the script itself goes - it is pretty basic.

Hey guys (and girls),

Some comparison shots of my little lead men with those of other manufactures:

No Musketeer Miniatures' WW1 Russians unfortunately, if anybody has the odd one spare and wouldn't mind parting with it, please let me know.
