Agis take on Roboute Guilliman
« on: November 11, 2017, 01:37:36 PM »

The Gathering Storm brought Roboute back to 40K. Not only that, GW also released a splendid miniature.
Like the Incarne it was a mini that I had to get used to. After building it and finally painting it, I just love the sculpt.

I also chose different colours as the blue ‘eavy Metal paint job, since I will use him together with my Blood Angel Primaris force and some Custodes.

And since Roboute is the de facto Leader of Mankind now I chose the all over golden look. And since I still do not like NMM I used good old fashioned gold and brown ink.

Many complained about the head sculpt of Roboute, IMO it is all a question of how you paint him.
I like the noble Roman emperor look a lot, same goes for the helmet, it is only a bit too small IMO.

LOL, as said pretty much the same for me when I first saw the model.
Only after building and painting Roboute the sculpt "grow on me".

Now I am unsure if I like the 30K FW model more or the 40K model...

Yeah, this is a model I just continue to abhore.

It looks far better in gold than the normal Ultramarines blue, and it's great you kept the helmeted option.  I just really can't get on with the model.  This is probably the best, least-hate-inducing version I've seen, so well done! :D

I like him. never would have any use for him but I like the model.
ALthough I much prefer helmeted version. Not because i have anything against bare head. Helmeted is just much more menacing IMHO.

Gold suits him. I dont think his overdone armor looks good with blue.
And he will work great with custodians.

Never seen the model before but you've done a great job on it. I don't mind if you the bare head either though generally prefer helmeted heads for space marines. The gold colour scheme makes it though as I think the ultramarine colour scheme would have taken away some of the impact of the sculpt (as in it could just look like an oversized marine).

Definitely prefer the gold scheme, but given that my 3rd edition Space Marine army was all in warm golds and reds I may be biased.  Never really understood the hate for the sculpt itself, outside of the rather silly size.  Curious, how does it look next to an Inquisitor-scale marine figure?

Well, i don't habe any Inq minus anymore, but iirc it is more or lese the same size.
The big size of Guilliman is well described in the current Background thou, the armour is also a live Support suit since he was out instasis immidiately after gotten poisoned by Fulgim.

Useful for that, then.  More IQ-scale figs in the world never hurts.

Oh sure, I know the Primarchs are all canonically giant-sized now.  Don't even object to it much, the original RT-era fluff doesn't say much on the subject and it's got some cute mythological tie-ins to make them huge - Nephilim and all that.  However, the size does seem to limit his utility in 40K quite a bit, which I think is one of the main objections to the model.  Lot of people (self included) like figs that can be repurposed more easily.

Lovely work on the model, regardless.  Much better than the catalog images.

LOL, yes indeed Guilliman is as "un-generic" as it gets...  ;)
